We get a minimum of 3 calls a day from this number. I punched in a random number for the SS# and after several minutes I was connected with an actual person.  My husband took the phone and told the woman that he had already called our local BB&T and was told this was a scam. He told her to remove our number from their call list and now they call more frequently.  They have already called three times today.

...Same as everyone on this thread: Rec'd a call @ 8:27 am which named a person who lives here; requested last four digits of SS#. I *69'd, called the number and was asked the same question. Went to BB&T; was told all calls from them are LIVE; they called the number but seemed mystified. Since eliminating the "do not publish or list" option for my phone number, have been getting many unsolicited phone calls.

Calls every morning and the automated number asks to speak to someone that does not live here.  There is no way to let them know it is the wrong number.  They have called all summer and I don't know how to get them to stop.

Call came in at 8:22 am. Did not leave message.  No caller i.d.

After a call to BB&T we were informed that they were not associated with this number. Could you please have us removed from this calling list.

This number has been calling me for 2 weeks now, a minimum of twice a day.  It is almost like clockwork, once around 8:30 and again around 2:30.  For the past few days they have called me 4 times...until 8pm!  I keep getting the BB&T voicemail and I know for a fact it's not them.  They want my social security number to steal my info and obviously I'm not giving it.  I can't block numbers from my cell phone and I have no idea how to make this stop.  It's getting RIDICULOUS.  What do I do?!

Did not answer the call from this number after reading that it is a scam but they kept continuing to call.

Received 2 calls from this # today, one at 9:13am and one at 3:17pm. I ignored both calls.  I DO bank with BB&T, but when I called the number back to check (after reading this message board), I received a "Your party is not available..." message.

I too received this call at at home at 8:18 am and left no message. After reading these comments, I decided to call it back. Upon answering, a recorded message verified who I was and asked to press 1, so I did. Then it asked to verify the last 4 of my ssn. I did not, but waited on the line. It eventually said it woud transfer me to someone, but never did. Out of curiosity, I dialed the number from my cell phone. The recording then asked me to enter the 10-digit phone number where the message was left asking me to call. I did not. I just waited, and just as before it eventually said it would transfer me to someone, and never did. I am going to BBT today to do this again from my cell so they can see and report it too.

Called several times.  Have emailed BB&T to see if it is legimate.

This call is from BB&T Credit Card Services. Calling because I've forgotten to make a payment to my credit card. Woops!

They claim to be BB&T Bank, but they're not. I told them to quit calling us but they did again. If they call again today, I'm telling them I'm reporting them to BB&T.

I've never had any accounts or contact with a BB&T bank, and I don't much care whether it is BB&T bank or not, I just want the calls to stop. I've called BB&T's customer service line three days in a row this week and three times asked the customer service rep to stop calling this number. Just got another call from it 10 minutes ago.

How do you make it stop?

800-579-5574. I'm getting called DAILY by an automated system. It asks me to enter the last 4 of my SSN to verify they had the correct person. Once I entered a random number and it was accepted! The system then put me on hold while trying to connect me to a "service rep".

I used to have a BB&T account, with online services...

So how do we fight back? (besides just whining about it)

I have gotten several calls today by this number and did not answer it.  I am glad I didn't before I looked it up to see if it was false.

Thank you for sharing. I just got a call from this number as well. It's an automated number claiming to call from BB&T. They also asked for the last 4 digits of my SSN for "security purpose". I didn't provide that info, of course. They put me on hold while the call is connected so I hang up.

I also just started getting calls from this number.  They left a message and said they were with BB&T.

Call came in at 8:21 am .  No message was left and no caller ID.

Call came in at 8:22am.  Did not leave message.  No caller i.d.

I also verified with BB&T that it is NOT them.

This number claims to be BB&T, but is not. I called BB&T to ask them if they were attached to this number and they are not. I was also told that a criminal investigation is in process.
So, do not give out any personal info, including your address to anyone at this toll free number. They are not BB&T!
