SO VERY LEGIT, in fact, that this company has to resort to illegal tactics to attempt collections? PUH-LEASE.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

This is a horribly unprofessional collection service. I am an educated professional with great credit and had an erroneous debt assigned to these people. The girl who called me sounded like a teenager and spoke terrible English (Ebonics). I received a letter 2 weeks ago saying I had 30 days to respond; when I stated that I would have the my dispute to them within the next week, the 'agent' stated that it had been too long and that she was going to mark my account as unpaid and report it to the credit bureaus. She then recanted and said I had 2 more weeks. Finally she cursed at me and hung up. I would advise you to tell these people you are recording the conversation, and record the whole thing. Also report any violations of the FDCPA to the FTC.

If you owe someone money and have not paid, they ARE allowed to call you in attempt to collect a debt!

Even if you have registered your number with the Do Not Call Registry, companies are allowed to call when you have a business relationship with them. If you owe them money or your number is listed as a contact number they may call you!

To stop them from calling when you owe them money, you must request that in writing. Your billing statement should have an address to write to or the caller should be able to give a correspondence address to you. Those calls are only considered harassment AFTER you have told them you ONLY want to be contacted by mail. When you send that mail, I'd send it Certified Mail with Return Receipt as well. That way you know when they received it and who signed indicating they received it.

The Do No Call Registry is meant to stop unwanted phone solicitations from companies you do NOT have a business relationship. You may receive calls from politicians and other political causes asking for your support, money or whatever. Politicians left a nice little loophole for themselves there too.

The Do Not Call Registry does not pertain to any one or any business whom you have done business wit. If you owe an a bill, they have the right to attempt to recover the debt. Unfortunately, the politicians made a loophole for themselves when the Do Not Call Registry was created. Political campaigns and causes are exempt from the Do Not Call Registry.

The do No Call Registry is to stop unwanted solicitations. Those trying to sell you something are not allowed to call those numbers on that list.

I'm not defending the actions of debt collectors by any means. May they all fade away and be gone!

Be concerned. They do have your SS#. I just got a call from them. The person on the phone was rude. When I called them back and asked for a supervisor, they were rude. Then a 3rd person got on the phone stating they were a senior supervisor and they were even ruder. They use scare tactics and any other method to get information from you to sell to other companies. The National Do Not Call List means nothing to them.

Please let us know. I have NEVER heard so many rude people from the same company before. I was nice and calm until I got the 2nd and 3rd rude person. I think this company needs to learn what  it means to have someone breathing down their neck, but in their case it should be the federal government.

This company called me at 8:30AM on my cell phone and woke me up to tell me that I had to pay them $700 on an account that was already taken care of. Monica was the one on the phone. She was down right rude and nasty to me. She demanded payment right then and there did not tell me who it was for or anything. She asked for my credit/debit card number. When I found the number that called me, I called them back and asked for a supervisor. I got Miss Young. She was just as rude as Monica. She wanted to talk over me and not listen. When I started yelling at her like you would a child, she told me that she does not even allow her children to talk to her that way. I told her that her children have the same manner she does because she will not listen to who she is talking to. Finally, a Senior supervisor got on the phone and he was ruder still telling me that they got my cell number because I used it on an application or something when I have not. The only people that have that number is myself and the GOVERNMENT agency that gave it to me. The only way this company could get it is by hacking into a government database. The male senior supervisor tried to tell me that it is not illegal to call someone at work or on their cell phone even if they are told not to. He also said it is not illegal to harass people or call numbers on the National Do Not Call list because they are not selling anything, but when you call this company back they ARE selling things. He says he teaches the class on the rules and regulations for trying to collect a debit. I do not think so because he does not know the laws.

They left a message on my answering machine with my full name.  I really didn't appreciate that - what if it had been a wrong number and those people decided to return the call with the reference number left on the machine.  Regardless, I know I don't have any outstanding debts so the call must be a scam.  I tried calling back but they want you to leave a message with them.  This probably verifies a phone number for some other company to do solicitations. Don't these people have better things to do!!!

I receive at least one call a day.  They are calling for my husband and the message claims that they are debt collector but, I pay the bills and I KNOW we don't owe anyone.  If I call back or have my husband call back, it sounds like we are going to be forced to leave a number per the prior posts which we are not going to do.  My question is, for those of you who called back and left a number, how can they threaten to ruin your credit if you don't owe them anything?  I mean, if you don't have an account with them, how would they get the information necessary to "ruin" your credit?  Should I just block the number or should I be concerned that these people might have our ss#?

This number has been calling (and only getting the answering machine) for my daughter saying they are trying to collect a bad debt.  Except she is extremely responsible and does not have a bad debt.  These people are the bad debt and that is what they want to do to you.  They will be your worst nightmare if you respond.  DO NOT ANSWER ANY UNIDENTIFIED CALLS!  They are only looking for private information so they can do you harm.  If they were legitimate they would announce who they are which is something they will never do.  Most likely they are criminals playing a scam on the most vulnerable.  You know, "If you pay 50% of the amount today we will forgive the other 50%."  Don't give them a reaction, do not answer.  And if by mistake you did answer, then only hang up, push no buttons and say nothing.

This company has been calling and leaving messages several times a day for the last 6 months. They have been told by myself and my husband that this person doesnt live here. The jerk on the phone even said it was in his notes. I called back after being berrated by this man and spoke to someone else who told me that this person used our number again and that is why they are calling again. They say that they have removed my number again but I am sure I will be getting another call from these people soon. I will be calling a lawyer if they call again!

This company is calling our home and harrassing us.  We don't know anything about who they are trying to contact and we ourselves owe no debt to anyone.   They start calling here way too early and keep leaving messages on the answering machine.  I am reporting them to the telephone company and writing a letter to my State Representative.  This is not acceptable.  They have been told to put us on the do not call registry and not to contact us again.  It is against the law to call someone after you have asked them to put you on the do not call registry.  We will consider a lawsuit and if we do we are going to contact the rest of you to join us.  Thanks.

This call shows up on my caller ID as: "Out of Area". The message is for someone I have never heard of. They give a number 877-828-4037 to have yourself removed from the calling list if you are not the person they are trying to reach. I am suspecting that if I call this number, I will just be added to a list of verified numbers that this company will sell to other telemarketers. I don't trust them enough to call the removal list, since they are just mining working phone numbers.

I've gotten repeated calls from this company looking for someone else.  Very annoying, but I don't want to respond to them for fear they'll start harassing me through other venues (phones/email/work).  Annoying, but unfortunately not illegal.

If you feel they've broken the law, you should report them to the Federal Trade Commission at this website: www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov

Here's the company's information that you should provide to the FTC:
