They called me and told me that I owed them $1500.00 and they would settle out for this amount if I would give them my bank account information.  They told me that if I refused to give them this information they would sue me and take my house.  The guy's name was Mike and he was supposed to be the Assistant Manager of the Company.

This is definitely a SCAM.  I wish they would get caught.

They called me 2/20/2010 and claimed I owed debt.  I get the callers info so I could return the call later after I had checked with my creditors and my report.  I immediately suspected fraud since I have great credit.  It turned out to be a scam, the story is long and boring but involved 2 hours of baloney.

Debt Collector
Brianna called me first, claiming I had debt that had been reported in Sept 2009 to her agency.  I knew I didn't have any debt so I said I would have to call her back when I was at home.  When I hung up, I immediately called my creditors to confirm.   I called Brianna back and asked for location and address so I could report them to a credit agency, it became clear immediately that this was a scam when they insisted I give them my social security number before they would transfer my call to Brianna.  Also, when I called back, they answered the phone by saying, "Hello, can I speak to (my name) so that alerted me immediately to something fishy.  When I point blank stated it sounded like a scam, they hung up me.
I called back from a pay phone and they answered, "Capital Management, may I have your social security number?"  I said, no, may I please speak to Brianna.  Tom got on the phone.  He wouldn't transfer me to to her without a social security number nor would he help me until I gave y name.  This time, I hung up on them.

This is a legit number by a good finacial institution.  You or someone you may know has a debt.  The other thing may be that your new number was a debtors in which case be polite and tell them - this is a new phone, please don't call this number.  You may have to do this several times if the there are multiple debt accounts.
If you are in debt or they say your name and confirm your id then you are in debt... they will work with your to settle the debt.  Don't treat this as a scam or a solicited call.  They resolved a debt i didn't remember i had.  when I moved... lost track and they stopped interest and spread it over 8 months for me. I was grateful.  I would hate for that to linger in my credit report.

These people have been calling several times a week, and sometimes several times a day, for months now, leaving messages for the name of someone I don't know.  I've called them back three times to ask them to stop, and still it persists. I am glad to find this page and learn how to end this maddening harassment.
