I haven't picked up these calls because I don't know the number.  However, they insist in calling at various times during the day.  What can be done?

Called twice this morning while I was out..left a 30 sec message of "breathing" and then hung up.  I called them back and, as others here have said, they mentioned lower interest rate cards and that they were Consumer Advocates representing the credit companies - Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax.  I told them not to call back and before I could warn them that I was reporting to the Do Not Call registry they hung up in my ear.  I've been reporting every telemarketer call I get since May 23 - 21 calls in all.  It would've been more except I turn my cell phone off for days at a time so then they don't call.

I got a call from them this morning.  The man said he was calling in regards to my low interest rate on my visa mastercard.  I said firmly I don't have one (which I don't) and he immediately hung up.

My story is similar (repeated incoming calls). I called back...the first time failed, second time someone answered. I asked to be taken off the list and the woman immediately complied and said "It could take 72 hours, have a nice day"

Next time you get a call from them, answer it, do NOT let them start talking and strictly and sternly tell them to remove your number from their list and never ever call it again. Do not wait for their reply, just hang up. If they call again, start threatening them that you will report their phone number to the credit bureau. That ought to do it. These people are scam artists and want to steal your ID information from you. Do not give it out.

This is a follow up on my last statement. When you go to the B.B.B. and when they ask you for the name of the company use 'consumer adovcated group'. I tried useing the 800 number, the web site and found nothing. Be sure to check your spelling.

6/10/09 I recieve a call from them today. The same story, they would be able to lower my interest rate. I told them no. I called them back and ask for their address and zip code. They give me a partly false address (11350 66th st N. unable to understand town name, fl. 3771 zip is wrong). When I called them the background noise told me this was a boiler room operation. Then I did some more research. I contacted the B.B.B. and file a report with them and give them what information I had. Then I went to map and directories and enter what information I had.
The right address came up. 11350 66th st. N, Largo, Fl. 33773.
According to B.B.B. most of the companies by the name of consoumer advocate are out of business. Goto the website www.consumeradvocate.com you will find that all it is, is a directory and it is for sale. All the business w/name consumer advocate group were not in busines long enouth to rate a report with the B.B.B. If you have had some problems with these people please report it to the B.B.B., you state attorney general, or go to your state goverment website and look for help there. Then go to the democratic party and ask them for help, with all the money they are taking out of your paycheck that is the least they can do.
The best thing you can do with these people is hang up the phone.
It is O.K. to complain but the best complain is one that offers ways out of your poblem.

Same thing here.
Four or five calls already since this past Friday. I answered once and could hear someone breathing on the line, but no one spoke. I use a debit card, and have no credit cards in my name. Gee, I guess I won't qualify for their "Consumer Advocacy" services! Shucks.
Careful everyone....

We've been getting calls from this number on my cell. At times we will get 4 in a row and then they'll call again the next day.  Has been going on for at least 3 weeks. I never answer it and they never leave messages. Without calling them back I don't know how to stop them from calling me. Anyone have any ideas?

Telemarketer
I received calls from this "Consumer Advocacy Group" saying that I had a credit card with a balance of $2500 or more. When I told him that I did not he asked me if I knew anybody who did. I received this call three nights in a row and was told on the second night that I would be taken off the list. Tonight I got the call and when I answered no one was there. I called back and the guy answered and started right in with his speach, when I told him that I was supposed to be removed from their list he was indignent and hung up on me.

I got a call today from this number on my cell phone. The guy I talked to said he was from Consumer Advocates and he could save me a bunch of money by calling my creditors and have my interest rate reduced on my credit cards. I asked him how he got my information and he said the information was given by a credit bureau (he didn't say which one) and he could see that my husband and I are in good standing and noticed we always make our payments on time. It sounded strange - why would a credit bureau company sell my information? I told him I wasn't interested. Again, an hour later, I got another call. I answered and I told the guy that I already received a call earlier today from a one of their reps and I wasn't interested. He said, "But, wait, this is what we can do, bla, bla, bla..." I played along with it to see what this was all about. He asked me how much debt I had in credit cards - I gave him $15K and he then said he could save me $3K per year. He then said he had to "pre-approve me" and asked me for my zip code. Then he asked me for one of my credit card numbers on a card that is current ? I asked him why he needed my card number. He said he needs to call the company and verify I?m in good standing which will ?pre-approve? me to use one of their financial advisors. I immediately hung-up. This is a total scam!

I received a call from this number and they said they were a "consumer's advocate group" and that they could lower my interest rates on my credit cards.  They also asked if I had received an email from them -- I said no, I didn't.  I could tell that the call came from a "phone room" where someone is paying a room full of people to make these calls.  I told them "no thank you" and hung up and researched this on line and found out this was a scam to get your credit card information!

Never give out personal or any information to strangers -- especially on the telephone!

I got a call from 800-769-0425, I didn't answer as I didn't recognize the number and they didn't leave a message.  I decided to google it, got here and then decided to call it.  The phone didn't ring but I could hear someone on the other line and when I said "hello" the line went dead so I called back.  Again the phone didn't ring and I could hear someone on the other line and this time when I said "hello" a guy said "Is this (my name)" and I said "no (even though it was me)" and then told him to take my number off of their calling list and he said sure.  So we will see if they call back.  After reading a few of the posts here I just want to URGE everyone to NEVER EVER give any info (personal or off the back of your credit card) to anyone over the phone.  I don't care how reputable and legit they sound.  People are crafty these days and can use any info you give them to their advantage.  So DON'T do it!!  Just tell them you don't give any info over the phone and to take your number off their calling list and hang up.

I received three calls within an hour from this number. Since I didn't recognize the number, I just ignored it. They did not leave a voice mail message. Well my curiosity got the best of me and I finally call the number. It was answered by Maurice Martin, ID #9126. He first wanted my name and then went into a well rehearsed spiel on how his company, which he never did mention, could save me $5000 in interest payment in the next year. He asked me how much debt I had on my credit cards and I just made up a number ($30,000). He then stated that if I had one card that didn't have any late charges, past-due charges and was in good standing, he could pre-qualify me for their program. So I played along and then he asked me for the customer service 800 number on the back of the card, which I gave him. Then he asked which bank it was and what type of card...Visa/MC? I told him Visa with Chase bank. THE next question was he wanted me to read off the 12 digit number embossed on the front of the card, so that he could pre-qualify me. Well at that point I told him that I do not give out my credit card numbers over the phone to people that I did not know. He kept pushing and I kept saying no. Once he figured out that I wasn't going to give out the number he asked me to remain on the line and speak with his supervisor.
Once again, the supervisor came on line, he started right in with the same line of questions and when he got to the credit card number, I said the same thing to him - nope, no numbers given out over the phone. Then he started with how they were a reputable company...blah, blah, blah. I finally told the supervisor that if he would send me a package of their program and I would look it over and then decide. Well that didn't suit him very well and he then started on the routine about needed my card number to pre-qualify me, etc. I told him at that point that since nether he nor Maurice had given me their company name or any other information about their company, he said that they were Consumer Advocates. I told him I would check them out with my people first and get back to them.
These guys were very slick in their presentation and if you aren't paying attention, you could give the the info they want. I also tried to do a Google search on their company name and 800 number and that's how I ended up here at this site. Sorry for the long message but please be careful and aware of these and other scam artist.

Received a call from this number also. The guy had an indian accent. He said he was with "_____ Credit Card Services". I couldn't really understand all that he said though. I don't have any credit cards, so that's what I told him. He said "thank you" and hung up. Probably another scammer or telemarketer. Seems like I can't get away from these fools.

I am not sure who this is.  They call & don't leave a message.  I have been getting other calls from telemarketers so I assume that this number is one also.
