As a practice manager for a physicians office, I receive many sales call in any given day.  I have run into many scams and therefore make it a point to do thorough research of a company before doing any business with them.  Edwin with Fanfare Sports contacted me asking if I?d be interested in having our logo printed on tshirts that a local school would be handing out at fall sporting events.  The fee was $1 per tshirt for 300 shirts.  I asked that he call back in a few days and then called the school he was ?representing? as I happen to be very familiar with this small school and its administrative staff due to my son having attended there.  The school had no knowledge of this ?fundraiser? so I contacted the company again, giving them the benefit of the doubt and asked who their contact at the school was.  I was given the principals name, so contacted her myself and was told that this is apparently a scam as she had not signed any contract (which is what I was told).  I waited for Fanfare to contact me and when 'Edwin' did, I asked him if he was aware that he was working for a company who specialized in scamming people and how he felt about that.  He disputed this so I asked to speak to the owner of the company.  It took several minutes for ?Tony? to get on the line and when he finally did he stumbled all over his responses.  I said I would be willing to reconsider helping if he could provide proof that this was a legitimate company who did indeed have a contract with the school.  He suggested I view their website to which I replied ?anyone can create a website - thats not proof of a legitimate company?.  He offered to transfer me to customer service (passing the buck) and I told him not to bother - to take our number off his list and never contact us again.  I will be reporting them to the BBB.  I highly recommend everyone who?s been contacted by this company do the same.

The sales reps are suppose to fill out a piece of paper for those that want their numbers removed but they just ignore it leave the number and go.I use to fill out the document and hand it in the lady would just roll her eyes and be annoyed that she was interupted to do her job.I don't think she did anything but throw away the paper.

Yes Dana and Tony preach that during the training, but 1,000's of complaints and people getting ripped off is not normal. How this company is still in business beats me.They have countless numbers of folders of phone numbers for every city county and state, also encourage you to go online find new companies to call since a lot of there numbers are way old.

They also lie about your income your pay rate in not anywhere on your check stub,if you are on food stamps and have to turn in documentation of employment they fax it to your local welfare office with incorrect information saying you make more.like $12 hr plus commission that is only if you are a master manipulator other wise it's minimum wage.

Same here - "Blake" called my boss and I took the message.  He picked a local school here and wanted to know if we would advertise on the T-shirts.  I promptly tossed the message.

Brandy, did I say that I was working FOR the school? No, I did not. I said that I was doing the school T-Shirts for them at the time.  We have a contract with every school that we call for and that is the ONLY way we can call for the school.  I have never and will never misrepresent what I am doing.  This is a very legit company.  So, please do not call me names.

Thanks Dr P,
your post gives me hope...
Fanfare drives me crazy, they tried to scam me in January 2013. I got several phone calls and an email with an invoice. I replied to two of their emails stating I never ordered something. I never got an reply.
I finally thought I am rid of them.
Now over 7 month later I get a final notice in the mail to pay $350 or they will be forced to turn this over to an authorized collection agency, and all credit reporting bureaus.
I cannot believe that such business is legal.
I tried to reach them under the number on the final notice, but guess what? - nobody ever picks up and no voicemail either.
what can I do to protect myself?
I am grateful for any suggestions or advice.
thanks guys

That would have been me.  The reason why the 800# doesn't show up on the caller ID is because we are calling from a multi-line phone system.  The 309# is my work cell phone number.
Yes, I was calling you about Blair High School because I was doing the school T-Shirts for them at the time.

Got a call from someone named Brandy who left this as her callback number. We did not receive a call from this number, but from 309-373-3966 instead.

When asked what the call was regarding, she said it was regarding Blair High School.

I own Highest Heights Tutoring in Millbrae, Ca.  I got a call from Fan Fare about a month ago.  They wanted me to pay $300 to put my business on 300 shirts for the Mills High School football team opener.  They went so far as to ask for my Social Security Number, which I thankfully declined, and my mother's maiden name (which I made up).  It didn't feel right from the start.
I asked for a proof so I could see the ad.  They said it would be an extra $100. I declined.
I asked to be billed by mail.  They sent me an email with a demand to pay.  I did not pay it.
They called me demanding pay. I told them that I looked them up and know they are a fraud.
They called me again today and were quite rude and harassing.  I told them I checked with my local high school and that no such agreement exists.
They said they will keep calling me until I pay.
What can I do to help nail them?  I do intend to file harassment charges if they call again.  What else can I do?

Uh...  No.  It is all a scam.

They've even scammed the employees evidently.

The rep who called me specifically said, "the Activities Director". I spoke to him. He didnt have a clue about any such company called Fanfare.

I'm working to change that though. Our entire community will know all about Fanfare by the time I'm finished.

Fanfare. If you're reading this, take heed.

I have no patience for thieving.

I would really like to talk with you about your contact with these people.  They called me today 6/6/2013.  Please respond.  I will find a way to get you public virtual contact and we can discuss in more detail.  I have a very specific question about your dealings with them.

Time to shut this down!

Thanks!
