I too received a telephone call from 1-800-785-3566, the caller an Indian accent lady and later a male voice (also of with an Indian accent) called to indicate I had a computer virus on my computer. I told them to call me back in about 30 minutes. I used this time to find out who these people were, and why they were calling. It turns out that they did not work for Dell Computer as they indicated during the call. So these are the steps I took to protect myself. First I reported the call to the Better Business Bureau, secondly; I reported the call to the Attorney General's Office, Thirdly, I contacted the Federal Trade Commission and reported the fraud, fourth, I reported the call to the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Fifth, I contacted the Dell Computers, Customer Service and told them about the hoax/fraud, Sixth - I call the Do Not Call List to have both my home and mobile phone numbers removed from tele-market callers. It's a shame that people would attempt to play you for your money by indicating you have a computer virsus on your computer and they want to help you. What's next, faking the death of a love one? These people need to be arrested.

Received a call on 1/2/13 supposedly from Dell Support noting that I had multiple IPs. The "technician" wanted me to run some diagnostics from websites he would supply. I did not have time to discuss the matter further, was suspicious, and excused myself from the call. I will have to say that the caller was quite articulate and I did briefly challenge him and he "had all the right answers". Dell Online Chat Support this morning 1/4/13 confirmed that 800-785-3566 is not a Dell number. Bottom line: be wary and always verify before allowing anyone to "assist you" with any computer problems and be the one who initiates a call for assistance, not the other way around.
