This Jim Smith at 1-800-786-9318 called my daughter's cell phone yesterday and said there had been an emergency involving my brother's mother-in-law and it was urgent that we return this phone call.  It scared me half to death--why wouldn't he call my sister-in-law?  I thought something had happened to my whole family.  When I called back he told me that, according to his records, my brother's mother-in-law had used my daughter's cell phone in November 2007 and that's why he called this number.  Since the woman's been in a nursing home on the other side of the country for several years, it would have been impossible for her to have used my daughter's cell phone.  He did apologize for calling my daughter and said he wouldn't do it again.  But I still have no idea how he got her number....it's scary.

I got several calls from this guy. It's a collections company but this guy is a jerk. He was looking for a woman with my last name. He called me solely because we had the same last name. I have no idea what he wanted. He lied and said he'd spoken to her and needed to talk to me. He also called me by my nickname that's on my answering machine, not my real name. I tried to talk to him but he was convinced I knew this person and that I needed to have them call him back. I asked for his supervisor and he wouldn't give me a name or number. I looked up the company and called several people but I found the number of his office. I got his supervisor and she removed me from their number database. If you need it call 1-800-755-4513 and ask for Jim Smith's supervisor.

My mother got a call from an "unknown caller" who left a message on her answering machine.  He left this 800 number for her to call back.  She returned the call to "Viking Services".  She does owe a credit card company and this man had all that information along with the amount of a home equity loan she has along with the bank carrying it.  He told her to write a check on the equity loan for $15,000 and to go to the post office to do something (she couldn't remember exactly as she is very old and forgetfull) and send the check to him. It had to be done that day or else..... This all happened on Saturday.  Post offices are closed on Saturdays.  My sister and I decided it was a scam and told her to do nothing until we could check things out on Monday.  I just checked the BBB for Viking Services in Minn. where the man told my mother to send the check.  There is a Viking Services listed.  Following is the link. (It may be legitimate). http://minnesota.app.bbb.org/report/20958

This idiot called my parent's house in New Jersey and asked for me.
I have not lived there in 15 years and I live in California.
My parents called me with concern that a collections person was trying to track me down.
I called the number (800-786-9318) and rocket scientist Jim answered the phone (no company name, just "hello").
He claims that someone with my name called one of his clients from my parents phone number in NJ.
I asked him what his business, "Viking Services" does and he dodged the question.
He tried to confirm my social security number by giving me the wrong number that he had but I wouldn't give him my real number.
Clearly he was fishing for information.
