As a follow up, be sure to check the Better Business Bureau website on this company.  You may not be getting what you think you're getting for the cost.  If you want to camp at Lakewood Village in Wapakoneta, this may be a good deal for you.  However, you should read the complaints listed on the BBB.  Bottom line ... if you are required to sign a contract before you leave any facility in order to get the "special price" or are told the "deal will not be available after today", odds are it's not a good deal and you should know to walk away.  Don't ever sign a contract unless you have ample time (days) to read it over and understand clearly everything you are signing.   We work too hard for our money; don't throw it away if you're not sure.  Gut feelings tell you everything.  They have very good salespeople for a reason ... don't let them fool you.

Here's the scoop on Lakewood Village Resort.  It isn't a scam but more of a lure to get you to the resort to sign up for a membership.  A typical sales practice to get people in.  I did fill out an entry in a mall and did receive a "you're a finalist" phone call.  I asked what the "catch" was and she said I just had to take a tour.  What the heck, it wasn't too far from my home so we took the plunge.  On those entry forms you were asked to put your household salary range.  If your salary range is not over 30,000 per year, you won't get a call as that is their minimum requirement.

The campground is nice, for those that camp.  I don't.  But hey, I was a "finalist" in the giveaway so on with the tour!  Be clear, you MUST have a credit card, bank card, or checking account as one of the forms of your ID.  If you do not have this, you will not be allowed to do the tour.  Why?  Because if you don't have those with you, you can't buy the membership at the end of the tour. ;)  There are pictures all over the office of winners of the $20,000 check.  Funny though, most all of the pictures were from 2009 and 2010.  I don't recall seeing any recent ones ... hmmmm.

First, you meet with a tour guide and he or she tells you about the resort and shows you books of where other resorts are in their network and how with the membership you can get a week long vacation for as little as $299 (this is for the lodging only).  After a series of "fishing" questions, the tour guide will leave the room for few minutes.  Why?  Because they will be looking at you on the cameras they have installed around the property (yes for security reasons for their members, but also to see what your body language is when they leave the room.  Are you making faces like "let's just get this over with or are you showing true interest by looking at the books, etc.).  We made it look like we were interested.

Second, you go on the tour.  Cabins were very nice, fully equipped, clean.  There were even members on the property and this was the dead of winter!  Heck, if you had to you could live at one of these resorts long term (would be a lot cheaper than renting a apartment or a mortgage).  Cabins are compact, but for 1 or two people, that's all you would need.  They have an indoor pool, so if you live locally, this is a good place to take the kids in the winter to release that cabin fever.

Third, you go back to the office and the sales person comes out to give you the pitch on the price.  They start high at over 10,000 with an upfront deposit of 1300, and monthly payments of 300.00.  They ask if you can put that on your credit card right then.  Even if I could, i wouldn't.  Then they go down to the next level ... over 8,000.  Again, no thanks.  More talking from the salesperson.  The final price is around $4500.  I played along and finally said no thanks.  The salesperson wrote a little code on the bottom of my form to indicate we declined and left the room.  Our tour guide then took us to get our prizes and to try the key that we picked from a bin.  I was told every key had a chance to open 1 of the 2 locks.  Of course the one we tried didn't work.  I regret now not asking her to prove the key opened the other lock ... so if anyone goes on this tour, you should do that.  You then do a scratch off and reveal the code for your "two" prizes.  It will be a $10 gift card and a brochure claiming you won 7 3 day/2 night lodging certificates.

So that's the scoop ... if you're a camper, this may be a good deal for you.  However, be prepared that you cannot opt out once you sign up.  You must re-sell your membership at no more than the balance you owe on it if you no longer want to use it.

Bottom line ... it's not a scam.  It's a lure to get you to their resort in hopes that they can sell you a membership.  If you think it is something other than that, you're fooling yourself.  It didn't cost me any money ... except for the gas I used to get there.  I didn't have to sign up for anything, if I didn't want to.  I had a nice day out with my family, I won a $10 gift card, and my curiosity was satisfied.  Quite frankly, if camping was something I did, I might have been tempted.  But, I don't take many vacations and would not make use of this.  So if this is what you are looking for, you can go to their website and fill out the form to take the tour.   But make sure you bring your credit card and wait for the final offer!

So, got the same call as a few others here.  Saying I filled out a form to win a new car or $15,000 at my local mall.  Problem is, I haven't been to a mall in years nor have I ever filled out a form to win a car at the mall.  I know it's all bogus.

I also think its amusing that someone who's had a membership for four years with this resort would even bother looking up this phone number.  I think they need to train their people better before they go and have them write on here.  :)

So they people you call who won't play along and let you SCAM them are crazy? LOL.

Does your mom know you commit fraud for a living or did you give her a tour of the resort too? Speaking of your mom, is this what you wanted to be when you were growing up? A scammer tricking people on the phone and trying (and failing) to cover up your tracks on the web? It must suck to be you. No wonder you're so little pissed at us!

I think you're all crazy!  YOU filled out the form to begin with at a local mall, have a legitimate chance to win a vehicle or $15,000 cash, and you're complaining about it?  We went and toured the Resort and was offered a membership....that's all.  No Scam, No joke, and we simply said "No" to the membership and received 2 free prizes anyway.  If you don't understand what you're filling out, then maybe you shouldn't fill out offers for free stuff or drawings to win things.

I received a call from this Kimberly at 3:15pm today.  I used my call blocker feature and the phone number this call came from was 937-393-3775 if anyone wants to try and call 'Kimberly'. She offered the same car or $15K in cash just by visiting the "Resort". She gave me the 1-800-799-5871 number at ext.119 to schedule a tour date in January, 2013.

And after "4 years" of being a happy customer, you decide to look up the number on here? THAT is preposterous! Looks like your little travel scam must be hurting, otherwise they could hire a better liar than you. At least one who could spell.

Hey, does you mom know you trick victims out os money for a living, or did you soak her for this crap too?

Yes indeed..I was contacted last week 2-10-2012 claiming I was a finalist in a car give-away at Glenbrook Mall Fort Wayne, In.  I spoke to a gal by the name of Sherry were she asked a few questions and said they were going to be mailing me a packet of Imfo I needed to bring with me on my scheduled apt. Excited as we all were... I waited. And waited..and..yep waited. Here it is the day before my apt. and no packet! So I looked it up on the internet and found all of you!!! They had one of those things in the center of a mall with a dodge charger, I usually never fill out that crap, but that car made me do it. :) Never again.

I received the same phone call last night (5-9-11) from a lady named Janice.
From phone # 1-800-799-5871.  They left a message and said that I was a chosen finalist in the "If the Key Fits Drive It", from an entry form I apparently  filled out back in January.  They said they were from Lakewood Village Resort Reward and to call back for more info at the above # and extension #120 M-Thursday from 1:00pm - 7:30pm.

I am always leary of phone calls like this and the first thing I do is google the information.  When I googled just the "Lakewood Village Resort Reward"  all I kept hitting on was a campground or some type of resort.  But when I googled the above phone # I got this site and boy am I glad that I did cause just as I suspected, this is a SCAM!  Ugh.  Thanks to whoever posted this to warn people.  Do not call back cause you will waste your time and you will never get it back! :)

I just recieved the same call something told me to look this up on the web and to my surprise its a scam its  a shame that this is located in the malls thats where I filled out my forms so the mall should investigate this scam also and be responsible for elderly people getting scamed from the forms they keep in the mall.

Received a call yesterday saying someon by not my name won something at Lakewood Village Award Center and to call this number back x-120 Janis.  I didn't and received another call today as though they were disgusted with me for not returning the call.  I called and got her answering machine and I told her that whoever she was trying to reach wasn't my name and please remove me from her list.  I haven't heard back so I am guessing she got the message.  Thanks to all your posts I was suspicious.

I received 2 calls with messages left from this phone number.  I called back and got the same yada  yada yada about I won this car.  She said by showing up to tour the resort, you would win 2 of 5 prizes automatically.  The prizes were:
1. a gift certificate to WalMart or Red Lobster (unknown amount)
2. An IPOD Touch
3. A 500$ gift card
4. A 42" LCD tv
5. A Vacation or Cruise coupon.

I'm guessing that you go and get a 10$ coupon to Red Lobster and a coupon to visit their s****y resort.  Needless to say it's funny to now know the scam behind the cars you always see sitting in the Mall.  This was at a mall in Toledo OH btw.

On Wednesday, August 4th, 2010, 10:30 am,EST, Janelle called from 1-800-799-5871, ext. 113 to report that I had filled out an entry form from Lakewood Village and that I was in the next round for a prize of $15,000 dollars or a new car. I had not filled out a form for prizes so I Googled Lakewood Village and found this website. A Scam is what it is!

Ok, so I called back the 1-937-393-3775 ext. 119 and talked to Kimberly again and asked for a website so I could review information. I was told they do have a website, but it's not up and running as of yet. If I had 5 minutes of my time they would be happy to go over all the information about Lakewood Village Resorts with me. I said, "No thanks," and hung up. Apparently my mother-in-law had the same phone call like 19 years ago and went. They had to drive like 50+miles to get there. When they got there, it was a building with posters and brochures about the Resort that contacted tem, along with a mini-model of the resort. They informed them that they did not win the car, but did win some other prize. Problem tho, they were currently all out of prizes and would mail them to her. After one or two weeks my mother-in-law called back to no avail, and after the forth attempt to contact them, the phone number had been disconnected. So needless to say, I believe this is a scam. Sucks too, because my wife and I could really have used a new car. What a shame...
