I just got an automated call on my voicemail from "Time Warner" saying there is a change in my account and I should call back using the code 721357 within 24 hours.

Just called Time Warner and there is nothing wrong or changed in my account.  They confirmed this is a scam and I was warned to never call back and enter an ID number.  Time Warner will never do that.

Be forewarned.  The b*****ds are out there doing their preying.

TWC customer service verified that the 800-810-9780 is not their collections number. Anyone posting that this is a TWC collections number is part of a scam so that people checking casually will think it really is TWC and then will perhaps give out their credit card number.

The first tipoff that this was a scam was that the call came after I just got my statement showing the credit for my automatic payment a week ago and the second tipoff was that the scammers called my cell andonly friends and family have it and  TWC only has my home number.

These folks are fishing for naive people who might hand over their cc numbers .Just block the number that that says they are TW Collections.  You will receive a written notice. Call Time Warner if you have any doubts but again, don't listen to the scammers that have over a few years appparently been posting on this site pretending that they paid their bill via callback number and then saw a TW credit.  Scam, Scam.

i actually just called now from my mothers house ( who also has Time Warner) and they told me they apologized for calling but the account was up to date and no balance was owed.

i dont think a scam site would NOT try to collect money from someone.

I got a call from this number and when I picked up some recording played that was completely impossible to understand. Then I googled the number and found myself here. So I decided to call TWC and then the (800) 810-9780 number.

I told the guy that answered my call at (800) 810-9780 that I had just spoken with TWC and they told me that they were not affiliated with this number, and the guy actually laughed and said "whatever you want to believe". (Clue #1) I then asked him "how do I know if your actually calling from TWC"? To which he replied "I have caller ID and I can look up your account information", all though I called from a different number than the one they called me on, and blocked the number I was calling from before I called. (Clue #2) He then rattled off some numbers which didn't correlate to either number (Clue #3) - but did have my name, address, and account balance (already paid) correct. It was also dead quite...not one sound in the background. (Clue #4) Every time I have called TWC you can ALWAYS hear other people talking in the background. If they are actually doing collections for a company as large as TWC, they will be calling from a call center, and there will be other people talking to other customers in the background.

TWC informed me that they would have emailed me about my account and/or I would have received a call after my account was 40 days past due, which it was not. (Clue #5) Btw, TWC has not changed their payment fees, it will still cost you $4.99 to make a payment over the phone

If anyone calls you from this number please call TWC directly. Do not trust this number. I don't know what the deal is, but something is not right about this number! Do not give them any of your private information.

They may say they're from TW but definitely not them.  Time Warner has a specific phone number to call for all services including billing/payments.  This number 800-810-9780 is not TW.  Do not give them your information.  In fact, do not even respond to any message from them!   If you're worried about your TW service/bill, call TW on the TW number on your statement.

Received a call from the 800-810-9780 number. Was in the process of checking my e-mail and I saw that I had missed last month's TW payment and the one for this month had a due date of 03/10. I paid the bill online. I then returned the phone call. A very nice young lady informed me that it had been a courtesy call to inform me of my past due bill but to disregard the call since the system showed that I made my payment.

Called me 4 times today and yesterday Every few hours. I don't pick up randoms #s. and this is not the 1st, happens every few days or so.  they left half a voicemail but all automated BS and never stated who they were. My Time Warner Bill is always paid on time through my bank so who ever this is needs to back off. I've been on the DNC list over 10yrs now. This is ridiculous.

The number is affiliated with TWC.

Time Warner Cable outsources their call center work.  If you haven't figured out by now that this is how most large corporations handle customer service these days, you've been living in a hole under a rock in a cave for the last twenty years.  Or in a pineapple under the sea.  And based on some of the responses, I'm convinced a few of you do live in caves or pineapples.

If you receive one of these collection calls, it can mean you may have paid your bill, as someone previously noted, but you paid on or after the date the next bill was generated which sets in motion an automatic process in which your number is forwarded to the collections call center.

Or if you use auto pay or pay with credit or debit cards, there can be a delay in the processing which can then trigger the collections process.

Or something went wrong with their billing system and your account was unfortunately incorrectly flagged and sent to collections.

Or it's a huge conspiracy and they are out to get you.   Yes, you.  The paranoid ones.  :-)

Is it a perfect system?  No.

Do they screw up and you pay your bill and still get a call?  Of course, it's all automated and staffed by a CSR who works for some outsourced outfit and spends a good deal of their life sitting in a tiny cubicle listening to your whine and cheeze all day long.  You insult them and yell at them when all they are trying to do is their crap job and sort out your problem that they didn't cause, but then have to ask you for personal information.  Why?  Because they lack sufficient info due to the way the divisions and departments within the vast corporate maze don't communicate with each other.

This is all part of the cost cutting measures institututed by corporations - outsourcing - and results in some major fubar-esque situations when all the different depts / divisions are not linked to each other with the exact same individual account information.  This may be due to security issues depending on where the call centers are located.  Or just lame corporate practices.

It can be really frustrating to sort out various issues with your TWC account given how little of your account info is shared within the different divisions/departments.  Eventually it can be sorted out if you have a little patience and don't go off the deepend with paranoid delusions that renegade hackers are out to get you.

You typically have to answer questions anytime you call any division/dept of TWC to verify that you are indeed, the person who has the account.   It's annoying but it's the cost of doing business with TWC and most other corporations who outsource customer service to call centers all over the world.

To circumvent any possibility of giving your personal info to some nefarious person(s), always call the number on your TWC bill and pay your bills via that number to ensure that you are giving out your personal info to verified TWC CSR employees.  Ask for an employee id # or other info and write that down on your bill along with amount and the date and time you made your payment.

You don't have to pay the collections person who called you and perhaps it is best not to deal with them and always make any payments directly via mail or the official TWC website or the number on your bill or at a TWC brick and mortar.

As for the person who said they don't have an account with TWC and has been getting calls, you should have your credit reports run to see if someone has fraudulently used your identity to obtain cable service.  While that sounds insane because the cable is hard wired so they would be easy to locate, criminals aren't always the sharpest tools in the box.

For all you tin-foil hat wearers who are convinced these calls are a conspiracy or a scam to gleen personal information and track your trips to the surplus store, flag the number(s) on your phone and don't answer calls from the number(s).  Or block them.

While it's good to error on the side of caution, if you are that paranoid, you shouldn't even have a cell phone or phone of any kind or even cable service since the government is looking at you right now.  There is billion dollar satellite that is montitored by a staff of people who have nothing better to do than point this spy eye in the sky right at you as you sit in your basement pondering the authenticity of this phone number.  Yes, I'm talkin' to you in particular, sitting there in front of your computer having a meltdown because you got a call from TWC.  Be afraid, be very afraid.  Bwhahahahahaha....

Seriously, if you don't like the business practices of TWC, tell them as much by canceling your service with them.

Totally a Scam.  Did it ever occur to anyone that these people probably hacked into TWC accounts and that's how they know everything?  I just ignore the calls.  What's funny is that I pay my bill on time every month and they still call me to let me know I've gone to collections but if i pay my past due amount now that there will be no extra charge.  I call BS. scam scam scam.

You must be the obvious scammer that has responded  and concerned about my grammar. Let me feed the troll.  I received another call from this number 30 minutes ago and I'm on the phone with the real Time Warner to notify them of your scam.

800-810-9760 and 714.676.0384 are not TWC Billing/Collections. Good luck with your scam grammar queen and f*ck off.

I'm adding a 2012 update to this post. I posted the previous message 2 years ago and today I received two calls within 1 hour from this number. I picked up and no one answered.

Two nights ago I received another call from 714-676-0384. They didn't leave a message so I called the number back. The voice response said it was TW Cable. This is BS and most likely scammers. Time Warner ALWAYS calls and leaves messages with a legit 800-TW-CABLE number. Do not give out your information if you get a live person on the other line.

I don't have TWC as a provider, never have. I have zero business with them. I find it puzzling to receive upward of 6-9 calls EVERY WEEK from this #. When I google TWC and call back to complain they act like it has never happened before, despite me rattling off a laundry list of dates of previous calls made to ask them to STOP HARASSING ME, I continue to get these obnoxious calls. I have photocopied and highlighted my cell bill, showing the volume and frequency of these calls, sent copies to TWC Corporate offices MY cell provider(AT&T), the FTC AND BBB.
I keep my national do not call registration up to date every 5 yrs. if this continues I will pursue legal action for harassment. It is a shockingly poor business move to call non-customers cold, repeatedly. This does NOT make becoming a TWC customer appealing in the least. Horrible customer service and foul business tactics. They have EARNED THE NICKNAME: CRIME WARNER FOR A REASON!

I called TW yesterday as I had just paid my bill a few days before online. I asked why I was getting 'collection' calls. The girl at TW sounded a bit stumped, then I gave her the no. that had been calling and leaving messages (Without indicating who they were). She said that number did NOT sound familiar to her as anything to do with TW. Also, I did call the 810 number back and the same thing happened. I was calling from my TW phone and they could NOT pull up my account. Plus, when I gave them my last name they said they could not find the account either. REALLY? Doesn't sound like TW to me.

I believe it's a scam because my TW account is in good standing.
You never heard the usual TW wait music.
I returned the call & asked for the person who left a message.
TW seldom calls you & asks you to call back a specific person.
The first thing she asks me for is my phone number.
When you call TW, your number ALWAYS shows up on TW's caller id.
I said, don't you see my number on your screen?  She said no & she asked for my number again.
Then she asked my name & I made up something.
Then she asked me for my address.
I said, you're TW & you're asking me for my address?  Why?
She got spooked & hung up on me.  I don't know what she wanted.
I've been a TW customer for more than 20 years & this is NOT how TW does business.
SCAM.

Left a message telling me to call 800.810.0589. Stated they were NCO Financial Systems a debt collection company. I called back and they immediately answered saying they were looking for someone with a name I do not know. She said they will take my number off the list and hung up. I hope the calls finally stop.

I have been getting these calls as well. I have been having trouble with TW for sometime now. I find it funny that when there is a billing problem the internet gets real slow and the TV service slows down as well (take for ever to change the channels). TIME WARNER SUCKS! Hmmm Time Warner said if your account was in collections your service would be turned off, mine is working fine. I don't owe anything except for this months bill too. There is a post that said it was a company called Mercantile Adjustment Bureau making these calls saying it's Time Warner collections and if you pay over the phone now you won't be charged a fee, but if you make a payment to a TW Customer Rep you will have to pay a fee. When TW calls it shows a Time Warner caller id and a number that can be found on their site-bills, this OUT OF AREA caller id number does not show up anywhere for Time Warner.
