I received several calls from this number on and off for about a week. Since I don't usually answer calls from unknown numbers, I didn't pick up. But since they didn't stop I finally answered. A woman told me she was from Webster Online College and I asked to be placed on their do not call list. The calls stopped immediately and I have not received a call since then

New phone # 877-788-6540, different company name, same scheme. I received 2 calls 2 days in a row from "Kim" with an urgent matter that just got put on her desk.Their office is supposedly going to go ahead with a case against me for fraud and I should respond to this matter as soon as possible or else they will proceed with this next Monday. You would think after years and years of calling now, they could come up with some new sort of plan to attempt to collect a debt that appears to be sold at least 3 times.

It's actually kind of funny, because they have ad ad posted on craigslist looking for "collectors".

Please don't let them get away with using their "scare" tactics on you and DO NOT give them any personal information.

Rosenthal, Stein & Associates, a debt collection company in Marietta, and it's owner, Sharisse Williams, are facing a state investigation after consumers complained about aggressive and illegal debt collection practices.

"They threaten you. They use scare tactics," said Boris Townsend of Huntsville, AL.

He said collectors tried to get $900 out of him for a $400 pay day loan he had already paid back.

"She said you either give me the debit card number or you face going to jail," Townsend said.

Townsend isn't the only person complaining about Rosenthal, Stein & Associates.

A CBS Atlanta investigation uncovered a dozen federal lawsuits alleging RSA violated federal debt collection laws. According to the suits, RSA collectors deceived and harassed debtors, threatened them with arrest and revealed private information to third parties.

"In simple terms it freaks out my clients," said Attorney Bill Horn who represents Townsend and another man allegedly harassed by RSA.

Horn said RSA uses confusing, legal-sounding jargon to frighten debtors.

The West Virginia Attorney General filed a civil suit against Rosenthal, Stein & Associates in April. The Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Protection launched an investigation into RSA last year but according to court records, the company has not cooperated.

When approached about the accusations, Williams said she does not condone aggressive tactics and fired two employees who used them. She said she teaches her staff to be "creative."

Williams, who claimed she's an ordained minister, showed CBS Atlanta how she starts each work day. Dressed in a white robe with a gold embroidered cross, Williams leads a circle of employees in prayer.

Horn accused Williams of using a company name that sounds like a law firm to scare people into paying.

Williams said there is no Rosenthal and no Stein.

"The name is definitely created," said Williams who denied it was meant to frighten people.

"I do my best. I can't listen to everything. I can't be everywhere," Williams said.

Townsend said he learned his rights and learned he doesn't actually have to pay RSA and intends to sue the company.

Called twice yesterday, and a dozen times in the past couple of weeks.  Left 2 messages on my work phone, and none on my cell phone.  They either say that something has crossed their desk that I might not be aware of...(so what!) or they give a docket number and tell me that if I don't respond I should consider myself served, or they will be serving me tomorrow, etc.  The sad thing is that my wife paid them $645 last year while I was having brain surgery.  They threanted her and told her that I was being sued, and this would pay the debt in full.  They will not do business by mail, they will not send a receipt, and they will not provide any documentation that you signed any form of agreement with anyone.  I say let them burn up the phone lines and pay collector's wages till they go bankrupt.  This is not an honest company.  Ignor them, or sue them, but don't pay them!

Got a call from these folks today on my cell phone.  No message.  I have zero debt and have never taken out a payday loan.  Now armed with new information, I hope to answer my phone next time.  Maybe I will ask how the law suits are going.

I have noticed something, though.  Calls of this nature from a bunch of different numbers started up after I was issued a Walmart card (which has a zero balance).  I suspect Walmart or the company that issues the card - GE - sold my information to somebody.  I am cancelling the card.

We've been getting calls from this number continuously even early mornings and late at night; they call once and again and don't leave a message. But they are leaving threatening messages indicating that they have a complaint against us.  They should cease and desist immediately. I will notify the pertinent authorities.

The company is an ultra-agressive collection agency, Rosenthal, Stein & Assoc. (there is no Rosenthal or Stein). I had to talk to them today as they are carrying one of my debts.  I talked to 4 different people, none of whom would talk to me professionally.  They all said my employer would be getting a delivery tomorrow and that's all they could say. When I started asking questions they accused ME of being rude!!  What a bunch of a--holes.

This number called me three times in two hours. I was asleep but they insisted on leaving three voicemails as well. I've been getting these calls for the past three or four months. They often go between three and five days without a single call, then start calling between one and four times a day for two or three days and then no calls for a few days. They state that I need to tell my sister to call them because this is a very important legal matter and something about her owing some type of debt. I am usually asleep when they call or I am not near my phone. I really don't like being mean to anyone, especially somebody I don't know but I can promise I am going to flip s*** on them if they happen to call when I am around the phone. I told my sister about it and oddly enough the same exact numbers called her saying the same exact thing, yes there are quite a handful of different numbers they call from.

Just got a call from these guys. I spoke with a Mr. Rogers. Verified my social and birthdate and all my banking account information AFTER I stated I had no clue what his call was in regards to. I said I am sorry but send me something in writing and he stated he couldn't afford to do that and I said well Ican't afford to give you any information over the phone. I said the only reason I answered this call because I thought it was some sort of emergency as much as they have called this morning. He stated that this was headed to my county and I stated that is fine at least I will have paperwork to see instead of someone on the phone threatening me.

Hi to all in the payday loan game. Got way over my head. Also tried debt consolidation. Note to all!!!! Your debt consolidator CANT help you with payday loans, don't let them tell you they can, I got ripped off from one that had a good rating, and by the way, most will not have a BBB membership and their rating might be good, don't get fooled, see also how long they have been in business. How these companies work is they set a pay back arrangement, take their cut every month and leave a small amount each month (as long as you pay that amount each month) and then send letters of settlement. Well, here's the problem, the payday loan places if you did them in a store local will not make arrangements with them. Most of the online places are out of the country and will eventually quit harrassing you, they can not collect. What I have done, is look at your contract for a mailing address, even the local ones. This advice came from an attorney's office. Send them say $5.00 or $10 each pay period that you agreed to make payments. As long as you are making a payment, and they will still call and harrass you, they cannot do anything, you are making payments. 2 of mine were the max allowed here in my state $300 and fee of $45 every 2 weeks. what I did was close my account like the attorney told me and sent them all a letter that my account had been comprimised and I do not and will not pay other than certified check or money order. Once they got my letters (sent the out of country ones with no address an email like the letter) they have agreed to a payment arrangement with me for only the original balance owed, no more fees or biweekly $45 have been added. Most just want their original investment back because they have already made their money on you. And on a good note they have not put anything on my credit report and wont. I am doing $10 to each one and paying one at a time. But all the fees have stopped. If they do not agree, continue with say $5 or $10 and after about 3 months THEY WILL settle with you. Tell them you might have not choice but to file bankruptsy if they wont settle. Usually they will settle for 40-60% of what you owe. YOU can handle this all yourself without a debt consolidation company - the fees they were going to charge me every 2 weeks was $250 which I have applied that to one payday loan at a time. DO IT yourself because they wont and they cannot stop the calls either no matter what. And, they will call any references and your work. If they call your work that is illegal, let them know and those calls will cease at work. Take one at a time and work with them you will be able to handle them, dont get caught up in more, say you have 10-- set aside $100 or $50 and pay each one with a money order (most cost under $1), you can do delivery confirmation if you want that costs $1.10 at USPS, IT works - try it!! The overseas ones have not sent me an address to pay, so I keep sending emails and am keeping it all in a folder. When I get the rest taken care of, I will make an offer to the out of country ones. BEST OF LUCK - IT WILL WORK without debt consolidation!!

Rosenthall, Stein claimed I had a debt out on a payday advance loan and that they would seek action through my employer. This Is A Scam!!! I've never once taken a payday loan and I haven't had an employer in almost two years. I've read nothing but the worst about this company so please, do not give any info over the phone as any legitimate company will always send their claim in writing. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS!!!

I too received a call from these clowns.  Sound like a punch of dumb kids, my age, in some chop shop call center.  Anyways, I forget the name of the lady I spoke with, but same story.  Funny thing was, they said mine was a payday loan as well, except it is actually a credit card debt (off to a bad start, I?d say).  Apparently these JDB (Junk Debt Buyers) don?t know their a*** from a whole in the ground.  She said the same crap, fraud, court tomorrow, yada yada.  I told her ?Look, I know you only make $10/hr, but do you have any idea how many FDCPA violations you just committed? Not to mention ethics violations??.  Proceeded to tell them that if they cannot mail me, CERTIFIED, a Debt Validation letter that includes ALL previous holders, I cannot do anything.  She claimed they had sent me plenty of information, to which I responded ?You might have, but I never signed for anything, so LEGALLY you didn?t send me a damn thing?.  I further explained that this is America, there is no ?Debtors Jail?, I cannot be prosecuted, and welcomed her to serve me with a notice to appear/subpoena if they really felt like suing, but they would have to file with my clerk of court up in BFE Wisconsin.  They will be going on my Verizon blocked list.

Funny thing is, I am in a lot better financial condition than I was 5 years ago, I can pay the debt in full, but have no clue where to start.  Anyone have a clue how to legitimately clear this debt, or do I just wait another two years for it to roll of?
