Debt Collector
Got a message from a southern California number ((760) 530-6048) but they were MRS Associates and told me they were a debt collection agency and got my information from the creditor. They told me to call this number. I won't, because they didn't reference me by name in the message - I don't have ANY debt. None other than my mortgage, which is being paid on time every month. The person who called says her name is Sharon Taylor, and she gave me a reference number to give when I call back. I WILL NOT call back, since they didn't reference my name in the message and I have no debt. Where in the world did they get my cell phone number?!?

Oh... I also tried calling the phone number given from here in Taiwan --- all i get is an international "No longer in Service" tone.  Guess when they are willing to give out a genuine number, I'll be willing to pay for the phone call to contact them further.

Debt Collector
I am a self-supported missionary in Taiwan who intends to stay here the rest of my life.  Before I left America in Feb 2009, I had tried for a year to sell my car, using every option open and available to me.  I even went to CarMax, but they required the car deed and / or title, which of course the bank owns till you pay the debt entirely.  I did everything I could... until there was nothing more I could do but leave.

When I moved to Taiwan, I even made one more payment on the vehicle loan from money that should have gone to things like.... say... eating.  But I felt it important to do what I could since indeed the debt was mine and the car was still in my possession (being parked at my home Church back in Chicago).  I finally surrendered the car to the bank voluntarily the next month, knowing that the whole debt collection agency issue would follow.  That... was 3 years ago.

The first agency I dealt with was pretty nice.  I explained everything above --- and that was that.  I actually gave them my contact info in Taiwan... that put an end to any attempts to collect, until now.  MRS has gotten ahold of my home church's phone number back in Chicago and is calling.  I told the secretary to simply give them my home and cell phone numbers here in Taiwan --- if they want to contact me that badly, let them pay to do so.

In any case, I tracked the phone # they gave back to this site, felt I needed to speak up that they are still out there, and still using the same tactics.  It's been nearly 6 months since the last person posted anything --- I'm here to say these folks are still out there and still doing whatever they can to harass, strongarm, intimidate and force you into payment.

I have been receiving calls from this number for over a year now. They continue to ask for the same person who I do not know. The person they are looking for has the same last name as my wifes former spouse. Twice, we have spoken with live representatives...yet the calls keep coming via recording. "This is a message for --->insert name here, if you are (insert name again), and it goes onto say if you hold for 3 seconds you will...I have never let it go past the 3 seconds. I pray to GOD someone ends this nonsense.

called and left message wanting to know if I am responsible for my late mother's estate... never stated the name of their company. California debt collection states that they must protect the privacy of the person who made the debt....what about when the person is deceased??

I believe this is a scam to collect a debt that is not justified or fake...too much of that going on now.

800-819-8567 called me, and when I called back, they asked for my social security number!  My response, "NO"!  Wow, I just looked this up, whew!  They then said they were a collection agency and that I must owe bills.  I told them I don't owe any bills, (which I don't)!

Mrs Brown from MRS Assoc called, asked for me specifically and said she had important information about the estate of my mother.  Said it was important to call back at (800)949-3205 asap.  I am not the family rep for the estate and my phone listing is my first initial and last name (family rep for the estate, who never lived here or used my number, has same initial and last name.) Now that I know it's a collection agency, I won't be returning the call.

Caller ask for my 74 year old mother and acts like that matter is of utmost importance and needs to speak with her about a personal business matter. I said, she is not here. Would you like to leave a message. She says that her name is Gail Green, probably not her real name. And gives the phone number. 1-800-819-8567 X3315. She then proceeds to tell me that she has to make a final decision today. So I should make sure that she calls her back. With a little questioning. I find out that she is a debt collector. And she is trying to collect a debt for a car that my brother bought several years ago. He was rear ended at an intersection by a under aged girl and the insurance companies (her parents insurance and my brothers allstate and Mercury Gap insurance) were suposed to write it off. It was totaled. Well they have been harssing my mother for about 5 years now. oh for about $800 can you believe that.
anyway here is their info. Who they are and what they are.

If they are calling or writing you about a debt. Write to them and tell them to cease the communications with you, and the must do so.

Their address and phone number:
M.R.S Associates
3 Executive Campus Suite 400
Cherry Hill, NJ 08002
1-800-819-8567

Below is an excerpt from the Fair collection law.

3. Section 805(c) -- Ceasing collection calls and communication

Once debt collection agents receive written notice from a consumer that he or she refuses to pay the debt or wants the collection agent to stop further collection efforts, the agent must cease any further communication with the consumer except

"(1) to advise the consumer that the debt collection agency's further efforts are being terminated;

(2) to notify the consumer that the debt collection agency or creditor may invoke specified remedies which are ordinarily invoked by such debt collection agency or creditor; or

(3) where applicable, to notify the consumer that the debt collection agency or creditor intends to invoke a specified remedy."

1. Communicating
For purposes of this section, the term "communicate" is given its commonly accepted meaning and includes phone calls and messages. Thus, the section applies to contacts with the consumer related to the collection of the debt, whether or not the debt is specifically mentioned. [53 Fed. Reg. 50104]

2. Request for payment.
When responding to a "cease communication" notice from you they may not include a demand for payment! Their response is limited to the three statutory exceptions outlined above.

These people call from this and other phone numbers, always hanging up before the answering machine can even finish playing my outgoing message.   If they would leave a message and give me complete information, AND completely identify themselves on Caller ID other than just "Toll Free Call," I might even call them back and try to help them with whatever legitimate thing they are trying to do, but the fact that they program their Outgoing Caller ID to NOT identify themselves, and also because they don't leave a message stating who they are and what they want tells me that they are rude, and possibly even involved in criminal or at least unethical efforts, so they will get no cooperation from me whatsoever.     I withdraw any permission I may have ever given you, express or implied, to contact me or anyone else I know connected with me, and any further attempts to contact me will be considered harrassment and stalking, and I will most certainly take legal action against you as the law allows.

She asked me to call her back at: (800) 819-8567

Speaking to her, she would not tell me where she got my number from and was very rude. Nasty people!

Thank you for the information! It is much appreciated. I've had several companies calling me for collections and I'm not the one they are calling for! But, they continue to call and harass me as if I'm a liar and not who I say I am. This MRS collection company (800-819-8567) keeps calling me but won't leave a message and won't believe that they have wrong number. I don't use credit and all my bills are paid.... .idiots!

Don't ever do this. If you make any payment you're reaffirming the debt and starting the statute of limitations over again. Agencies sell your debt all the time. Just pick up the phone and if there is a one sec delay, the call is from a predictive dialer and you need to hang up immediately before it gets routed to an agent. Make a note of the number. The agencies have hundreds of numbers but some are stupid and use the same numbers. Get an answering service that is free (yes they exist) and make sure you block all unanswered 800, 866, and 877 callers. Usually these services allow you to enter numbers into a black list. Try youview.com if you don't believe me. Within a while the calls will stop. Why? Because every 6 months your account gets sold to another group and the calls will start again. This will go on forever BTW. Never settle! Why? Because they'll take your money and then issue you with a 1099-C and you'll pick up taxable income for the debt forgiveness and have the IRS on your case. How do I know? Because I buy all your debt for 5 cents on the dollar and attempt to collect....sorry but its a legitimate business and you DID incur the debt. I really don't care if you can't pay now. At the same time I don't want you getting screwed over...so play the game correctly and you'll be left alone. I own over 100 million delinquent accounts and use reputable cllection agencies to collect. The liars can all go to hell.

funny how ive been getting calls from this number and others from M.R.S ASSOC.  asking for  a person who doesnt exist at this number never has since ive had this number for over 25 years also now the caller id now says international with the 800-819-8567 and the other day it was a guy named robert asking for the non existent name they also used a 718,917,877,244,201,845 number so im guessing its either a real incompetent company or a spoof spam scam  either way its illegal and it should be regarded as such and stopped

I'm starting to get calls from these people too. To anyone that is getting phone calls about repo's, here's some info. I had a repo about 5 years ago and I ended up beating it and only having to pay 400 dollars to settle and be done with it. Here's what I did: When they start calling you set up a payment plan. Make one payment, then call them before the next payment's due and tell them you can't afford the next payment but you can do the next one in a month or two. Don't pay them anything else, they will try to summon you to court but they have to serve you papers IN PERSON. If they actually get you in person then you have to show. They can't send you a court form through the mail or anything. They tried posting it to my door and I tore it up and threw it away. About a year went by and then they started again so I did the same thing over again. Eventually they settled with me for 400 some dollars and it was over. I think total I paid about 700 dollars to them as opposed to the seven thousand they said I owed on a car they AUCTIONED. Also make sure you know your statute of limitations.

I just got a call from this so I called back.
It was Toyota Motor Credit.
Yes, I did surrender my Rav4, but I'm sorry I'm having a baby alone and yes I surrendered it, I didn't make them come find it. Anyway, the idiot at the other end of the phone says that i need to get the person that's helping me right now pay the balance on this and that he knows i have someone that can pay this for me and did I understand that when I gave the car back that I would have a balance. Meanwhile it's all being recorded, so I really never said anything except I'm not paying, I don't have the money, I understand you have a job to do, have a nice weekend.  So I'm sure they do numerous collections there, but mine was from Toyota. Obviously they sold the debt off to them.
I couldn't hear on the call either, sounded like they were in a call center on a beach somewhere. Wind and noise.  The guy tried to be an a** but I just didn't feed into it.  I know they make major commission on this stuff, but I ain't got it. Not going to for a while either.
