Several calls on my cell phone!

I get calls from this number several times of day, at all different hours. My caller ID gives the phone number as "800-821-8781", but the name is listed as "Unavailable". I would always let my answering machine pick up when they called, but they never leave a message. Now, if I'm home when they call, I just pick and drop the receiver after one or two rings to give my answering machine a rest. However, I've gotten to the point where I'm very tempted to pick up and give these clowns what for.

Who and why are calls coming from 1-800-821-8781? They are driving me crazy. I don't answer , they leave no message, they keep calling every day, several times a day. How can it be stopped?

These are legitimate calls from Financial Institutions asking for proxy votes to meet quotas when shareholders have not responded to mailed proxy requests.

Received call at 1046 on Feb 14. No one was on line and seemed to be one of those damned auto-dial calls.

My phone rings off the hook, day and night, from this number and I am on the "do not call" list.

we have received 18 calls from 800-821-8781 in the last five days. We have called their number to confirm who they are. How do we get them to stop. Our answering machine picks up so they never leave a voice mail.

At 8:05 on December 16 I got another call from 800-821-8781. This time, there was no one there. I told whoever was on the line that if they called here again, I would report them to the Missouri attorney general. And, I will

I got a call from this number at 6:00 p.m. on December 16, 2008. A male voice said he was from the Evergreen Investment group, and asked to speak to a Devin (using my last name) at this address. When I told him he had the wrong number, he asked if this was "so and so address," I forget the address he said, but it was not my address, and I told him again he had the wrong number. He apologized and hung up.

Additional info (jeez, I must be bored) from the Altman Group's website:
<Experience: We have the strength of a team of professionals who are fully competent to address the myriad issues surrounding the highly fluid corporate governance environment. Our executives have worked on over ten thousand annual and special shareholder meetings and have been involved in the telephone solicitation of millions of shareholders.>
I guess I'm just one of millions... how many others are as irritated as I am?
and:
<Technology: We employ the latest communications technology to intelligently employ our massive phone capabilities on behalf of our clients. Phone voting, call recording, up-to-date reporting and smart dialing methodologies are run by a team of dedicated telephone technology specialists.>
fantastic... call recording (sounds potentially ominous) and "smart dialing".
Hey, at least it's not a collection agency or worse!

Repeated calls over the past few days. Called back today, got automated message id'ing co. as The Altman Group. Searched google, found company related to shareholder proxy voting (I recently bought stock). Corroborated by <http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-866-721-1371> on this site (different #). Last time they called, (sat, 12.13 around 5:30pm) I answered and no one was on the line. Don't get it... is their goal simply to irritate? Will call Monday (office hours given during message after calling #) to ask them nicely not to call anymore.
