When I see an 800# on my caller ID, I pick up the phone, hold it a second, and then hang up!  They never seem to call me back--at least not immediately!

What bothers me is I am an elderly woman with several medical problems, including sleep disorders and many times spend entire sleepless nights and finally start dozing around 7:00-8:00 am only to be awaken by an 800#.  This morning (8/21/13) they called at 8:30 am and didn't bother to leave a message. And I have to suffer with an excruciating headache!

I will continue to answer phone and hang up on them!  At least that is a little satisfaction!

You should never give your social security number out to anyone over the phone unless you are 110% certain you know who is on the other line and that it is absolutely necessary that they have that information!

I have a telephone installed two months ago. I just received a call from some company (I don't know the name) but the phone # is 800-824-9392, I think that it is from a collection company asking for some female name; but I have not got any call from "OSI Collection Agency" so far. I told them not to call me any more because they are calling the wrong person. My telephone is receiving a lot of calls and what I do is leaving it disconnected. I will request a different phone #. Never give your SS by phone to nobody, this is important because you probably could be the target for hackers and phishing.

It was this scam company spoofing , faking the police phone number.
The committed a federal crime when they did that.
It is also against the  Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. [ federal]
There are all kinds attorneys that will take your case on consignment to sue them

No out of pocket expense. The scam company has to pay your attorney bills and you money
on top of that

AAFES  ?  owing money to AAFES never goes out of statute. It is money owed to the federal government.

You will owe it until they day you die unless you pay it.
Make sure you get a letter from them showing balance owing before paying anything.
Make them validate the debt. even with federal govt debt. the collection agency still has to follow the  FDCPA. SO make them validate the debt before you pay a cent. Unless you already started paying on it.

First , I dont work for any collection agency. Personally I hate them.
Your wrong about it being illegal to collect out of statute debt.

They just can't sue you in court for out of statute debt. They can still send letters and or call.
Until you send cease and desist letters by  u s mail certified return receipt.

Lot of collection agency's will sue for out of statute debt hoping the person does not show up in court.
If your sued in this circumstance, make sure you show up in court and tell the judge the debt is past the statute of limitations. If you fail to show up in court , the debt that was past statute limitations; you will
be stuck paying.

So , yes they can still collect. But not by legal court means [  unless your served and fail to appear ]

This number of 1-800-824-9392 has called me 3 times.  The man said he is Ahmed and says the company is called MCO Financial Systems.  He was looking for a Gregory Emory.  I told him I have had my number for years and he kept saying that we were on a "recorded line".  So, i then said, that I had looked up his number and saw that this business has been harassing other people as well and not to call my number again as I was on the do not call list.  My phone is a trac phone and every time somebody calls me like this, they waste my minutes.

I have received 6 calls from this number in the last couple days.  It is NCO Financial Systems, calling to collect a debt to the State of Kansas for 2009 taxes...I explained that this debt was PAID IN FULL in May 2012.  Evidently the State of KS did not notify NCO that the debt had been paid, and they had the nerve to tell me I needed to call the State and let them know.  I told them it was their responsibility to contact the state, not mine, and that I would not help them get their own records straight.  I called the State anyway and they assured me that the debt was clear/paid in full and they could contact NCO.  I will see if NCO calls me again, and if they do, I will sue them.

I've gotten calls from them (I owe NOTHING to ANYBODY), several times a day for weeks now. Never a message left, and they are calling my cell phone, which is on the do not call list.  This is illegal!  So I finally call back today and say "Why are you calling me?" They say: "What is your account number?" I say: "I don't have an account and I don't owe any money to anyone." So the guy asks: "What is your SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER?" I went ballistic. I said: "Do you think I'm crazy enough to give someone my social security number on the phone?"
I've read all about these people. Complete scam, identity thieves.
DO NOT give these people any information.

NCO demanding payment for an already paid off AAFES account.  Yes it WAS behind prior to payment.  But......

After reading all the previous comments I called AAFES to see if something was amiss. They confirmed it was paid in full/closed, and stated that the account was never sent to or sold to any outside collection agency.

Sounds like someone is fishing.  But how/where do they get their info?   Do they just pull random credit reports or something?
