Just got a call from 336-286-1700--they sure wanted $449 fast they said just give us your e-mail and credit card number. No doubt this was a scam. They stated that 2-companies were looking at my business records and that they charge &179 to these companies for this info. So if you pay the $449 and someone wants your business infor they charge them $179 wow what a racket they have going on. It is hard to believe anybody these days.

Gor a call regarding updating my credit profile for the construction company. It really isn't applicable but they made it sound like we'd be making a big mistake by not calling them back. 800-825-3867 x1741 Treva Bartley.

Several voice mails from 336-286-1700, different callers wanting to discuss "recent activity on you business credit report" - trying to sound ominous, like there was serious trouble, "need you to call back today" - almost same exact script from both callers.  Thank goodness for Blacklist droid app, just send those guys to silence!!!

Got several calls this week from the number listed with messages stating "your company has a bad credit rating, and we can fix it....".   Sounds like scare tactics.

This guy Michael called at extension 1835.  He told me pretty clearly that Dunn and Bradstreet keeps a credit report on me.  I told him that I would rather they not keep a file on me.  I told him that the information he was asking from me was already available on the internet (at the state's website), so he really doesn't have any need to call me, that I'd rather not have anybody keeping a file about me or my business, and I hung up on him.

He called back.  I told him I'm serious, I don't know him from Adam and I'm not going to give him whatever information he asks for.  I told him he could send me a letter, but even if he does that I don't really see why I need to report anything to him.

No matter what any business owner thinks of D&B, the information collected by the most respected company in this industry (Fortune Magazine) impacts you. This can be a positive impact if you are a responsible business owner.  When you have a great report, monitoring it gives you the ability to leverage your strenth to get even better terms, insurance premiums, etc.  If you choose not to use the solutions designed to help you maximize cash flow, you are missing opportunities you may not realize.  You DO NOT have to pay a dime to see your basic information by registering and using e-update from the company's main website (dnb.com).  It is not your full comprehensive report, but it will show you if there are issues you should be aware of.  If there are, you can call customer service for free and update/dispute whatever you find..FOR FREE.  The pay services offered have value if you understand how they can work for you.

I got a call looking for my pastor who died 10 years ago. The wanted to know who is in charge now. They said they are Dunn & Bradstreet. The girl was named Amie Cohen at x1861. The call on the caller ID was from North Carolina 1-336-282-4500. The number she gave me was 1-800-825-3867 to call back. I told her that since there is so much fraud out there and she call me. I will not give out info.

Every legitimate business has a Commercial Credit Report. It starts when that company is created by a Secretary of State. All companies are responsible for keeping positive & updated information on their own report. These calls from DnB are generated because other companies are purchasing the business report for the company being called. This is how they decide the risk your business poses to them and what terms and conditions to charge you for all those invoices you pay everyday.
You want as much information on your report as possible! I repeat, you, the business owner needs to have the most positive and up-to-date info on your report. This is how you stay competitive and avoid using "Personal Guarantees" on credit needs.
It's your choice, these calls are solutions for your business and for you to save money. Businesses with credit problems and delinquencies often get calls, especially if the business owner refuses to understand the facts. If DnB is assured that the business owner understands commercial credit perameters then the calls generally discontinue.
Finally, you must understand that you are a customer, whether you purchase anything or not. Your vendors & suppliers purchase your report from DnB so All legitimate businesses are immune from being placed on a DNC list.

What Source1 doesn't tell you is that Dun & Bradstreet usually does have incorrect information about businesses that do not pay the extortion of $395/ yr and they refuse to remove or freeze access to that completely false credit and business information unless you do pay. I have been fighting this for years. I have a business that does extremely well to the point that I have bank business credit cards at 4% to get me to the end of the month and don't need anything else. I owe nothing on my business as I paid cash along the way so I would not be indebt to any other control. What that gets me is an extremely profitable business with no debt and a poor credit rating, even though my bank offers me $100's of thousands on a routine basis for expansion. SCREW DUN & BRADSTREET

Sure you can look at your report for free but you have to pay them to make any corrections. If you never bought into their scam before, all the information in your profile is incorrect. My company is growing rapidly and we are paying all our bills on time and have done so for many years. We got an email from one of our larger customers panicked that we have gone out of business and they have product on our floor. We simply moved to a larger building. We had to pay $450.00 to have DnB update our profile. That was 6 months ago. Last week we just got a call from DnB salesman stating that if we want our profile kept up to date we have to pay them another $450.00. I am in if someone wants to challenge them in a class action suit.

I am the owner and have nothing against D&B per se, but Steve Goldsby - if you had expericed the high pressure "you are going to hell and you wife and daughters will be raped if you don't buy" sales calls I have had  - you too would be very angry.

Threatening me is NOT a way to make me a fan.   You are lucky you work there and unlikely to receive this kind of a call

I've received the same calls from D&B. I made the mistake of applying for a DUNS number for my small business. I call it a mistake because within days of creating the DUNS profile, I started to get several calls a week from the pushiest and most sleazy telemarketing organizations I've ever dealt with (except for "Heather from Card Services", but that's another story). I know it was D&B selling the information because I listed another officer of the company as president, but gave my office number. It was an unintentional error, but it gave me the data point I needed to know that it was D&B.

I know that D&B has been around forever, but they charge you to list your company data, then they turn around and sell that company data to boiler room office equipment vendors that harass you several times a week. If you need a DUNS number, you don't have any choice but to get one. But if you are a small business that doesn't need a DUNS, just don't do it. Unless you enjoy being verbally abused by con men and harassed by D&B salespeople, stay far, far away.

D&B called me. Second time I called them back, they said I have 7 inquires on my business credit. They also told me I had 180 day late reported in october form a Telco vendor? I told them I have never been late hand have sevice with the same vendor for over five years. I went on to say, the information is incorrect and it needs to be changed. The began the sales pitch about buyng their services. I told the person if I was 180 days late and they reported to you and you have my phone number and address, why would they not call me or send me a letter, no repsonse. I ask if I had sort of protect under the fair credit reporting act and bam they could not ge toff the phone fast enough.

Non-profit Organization
Its D and B. Its a credit reporting agency for business only. The will contact you if you applied for a DUNS number for your business and/or if you already have a credibility account with them. If you do not own a business nor have applied for a business DUNS number then they may be calling you by mistake. I have a DUNS number for my business. That's why I know.

Agreed.  We use D&B services.  However, I do get very frustrated with the inconsistency of contact info.  It seems each time we get a call or email from D&B it is from a different person and from a different part of the country, and s/he usually is not my "assigned rep of the (month, year)".  That makes it *very* difficult to determine which calls are legit and which are not.  I also get frustrated with the online services as each subscription seems to require a different log-in page, ID and password; there should be one page and log-in info for all services.

I work for D&B and if we are calling then there is a reason. Either your credit scores are changing, companies are requesting information to evaluate the risk in doing business with your company on some level, or your file content indicates some level of risk. There are 26 million+ companies in our database in the US alone. We didn't "PICK" you to telemarket.

We ARE marketing you and I won't deny that, however, you are better off that we do than if we didn't. Companies are making decisions in a tough economy and we are one of the few sources that can help them.

We offer a chance to review your info. Get involved at whatever level you see benefit and offer ways to help you gain new customers and/or reduce cost. There are some things you can do that cost you nothing.

I suggest you hear us out and ask a lot of questions.

Business owners PAY D&B for their services.  Dun & Bradstreet is one of the most common credit reporting agencies for small businesses.  They are the company that issues your company's DUNS number.  Potential vendors and customers check your company's DUNS number for flags and issues before doing business with you.  It is in the company's best interest to have current information.  Would you want invalid information on your PERSONAL credit report???  And no, I'm not an employee of D & B.  I'm just not completely ignorant.

I call BS on this comment! Robert, are you an employee of D&B? Is that why you wrote "if you are a business and we they call"? I believe that is what's called a Freudian slip.

You must be an employee of D&B. It's just another peddler that has a unique angle on getting in touch with the owner/financial officer. If it's your job to filter the BS, then you did your job.

Rec'd a call saying it was very important we contact them immediately due to recent information reported.  While the organization is legitimate and the information is correct, this was nothing but a sales call, trying to get us to sign up to their monitoring services.

I received this call today at my business, and when I said the owner wasn't in this chick started threatening me and saying that it was very important. She was THE RUDEST person I have ever talked to over the phone. I don't care if the company is legit or not, I will not forward this message to my boss.

My boss got a call from someone named Max who said he was with Dun & Bradstreet.  He claimed that they have gotten notification from several vendors in the past couple of months that we were late paying bills.  When he asked them who the vendors were, he said it would cost us $400 to find out.  I was immediately suspicious, particularly since we pay all of our bills on time.  Fortunately he didn't give them any information.

I got a message on my answering machine, intended for business owner "CHUCK" whose credentials "needed verification". I have no idea who this "CHUCK" is or why he would list my phone as his business number. My HOME phone is for my personal use only & is listed in the National DO-NOT-CALL registry. I thought that registering made it safe from telemarketer calls...??? I guess not!!!
