Received an automated call saying that they were the fraud department at Chase and that Linda Babcock was trying to use a card and gave me a reference number. I called Chase customer service and they said that wasn't one of their fraud numbers and that they fraud dept didn't have any inquiries out on any of my cards.

SCAM. This number IS NOT from Chase bank. Their message sounds legit, but they are not. DO NOT return their call. Call numbers on back of card.
Kim 2013-12-16 23:12:15 Unknown
Chase called to confirm a travel alert that I had place on the card the prior day. This is legit.
have they really been doing for 3 years? 2013-12-02 16:11:07 Unknown
Got same call as those reported in 2010, called chase number from website, they denied leaving message and told me it was a scam. Why would anyone suggest anything other than to call a verified credit card number?

This number is not, repeat, NOT, part of Chase Bank. I contacted the local branch and the corporate office to verify that. Like most Chase account holders, I do have fraud protection on my checking account, but they confirmed there had been no questionable activity on my account. This was directly through Chase, not this number. Also, I've done a little digging, and found that most of the individuals posting on this and other websites reporting this number as "legitimate" appear to be employed by the individual or company responsible for this phishing expedition. Therefore, disregard their comments and contact Chase directly, not through this number.
Again, this is NOT a number that connects to Chase, and anyone who states otherwise is part of this scam. PERIOD.

Received a phone message purporting to be from Chase's fraud division asking if I was planning to travel because the company had received about allowing my credit card to be used in another country. When I tried to call the number, it wouldn't connect. Chase had no record of information. Don't give these callers any private information!

I changed a setting on a Chase credit card a couple of days ago.
My call from this number was a valid notification to that effect.
Not a scam.
robert 2013-08-01 15:27:23 Unknown
I called the number on the back of my card - no activity - bp did not call me.
kelly 2013-07-16 00:26:39 Unknown

I didn't make any travel plans and got the same call. Called the number in the back of the call and they said that there are no travel notes on my account and that the number isn't theirs. I'm not positive, but i wouldn't call back.

I also received a voice mail to call 1-800-839-8396 that claimed to be from the Chase Fraud Unit. The automated recording said to have my credit card info ready. It did not leave a name on the voice mail so my wife and I had no idea which one of us they were seeking. I called Chase directly and they confirmed that this is a scam. DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER AND GIVE THEM ANY INFO.
Lyn 2013-03-13 16:58:46 Unknown
Do not give info, this is not Chase Fraud Unit. First thing they ask for is your credit card info. If they are legit they already have your info. Dont give any info, call local Chase and report them.
Ke 2013-03-02 01:12:14 Unknown
I called my customer service number and they confirmed that Chase had been calling to confirm info about travel abroad to Asia in a couple of days so it was a legit call.
James 2012-11-19 13:52:41 Unknown
Take it as you may, given some folks have claimed this is a legit number and others not, but I received a message claiming a possible travel fraud alert with an account I do not even own. I also called my bank using the number on the back of my card and they confirmed that if the message was regarding an account I do not even have with the bank, it was most-likely a phishing scam.
Bottom line: whenever you receive such messages or a call from someone asking for your information, CONTACT THE INSTITUTION DIRECTLY INSTEAD AT THE ESTABLISHED NUMBERS.
lily 2012-07-14 21:57:59 Unknown
Definitely a fraud!
I don't have an account with Chase anymore.
When I called the number back, they tried to get my personal information. Asked them to remove my phone number and hung up.
ResaM 2012-04-30 12:55:03 Unknown
My son was actually using the card and he was taking a trip. That is why my Chase had not information of them contacting me. My Chase was not in service so I thought it was fraudulent. I still need to ask my son about it.

This is definately a scam. Please don't fall for it. My mother was attempting to get a nanny job. She was contacted by a man named Brook Parker from the UK and said he would hire her and pay all her expenses to travel there. My mother then went to apply for a passport (which was $200) He said he wanted her to sign a 2-year contract and gave us his lawyer's email address which was Eric Thompson, we then emailed eric thompson and said we'd like a copy of the contract and would like to go visit before committing. The contract was very questionable, no letter head, the wording was not professional at all and didn't make much sense. We then received an email from Mr. Parker stating his daughter had fallen and hurt her knee and needed surgery and he actually asked my mother for money for the surgery. We received a call from Mr. Parker asking if we'd seen his email yet (requesting the money) and said he would call back after we read the email. I checked the number that he called from and low and behold the number was 800-839-8396. The lady on the other end said she was from Chase Bank and asked if we were doing some traveling, which we were just at Chase Bank the day before. I asked the lady if a man named Brook Parker worked there and she was ignoring all our inquiries. We have yet to hear back from Mr. Parker.

I work for chase and have confirmed this number does not belong to our bank. Just call your local branch if you have questions in the future or the 800 # on the back of your card
tom 2011-09-10 19:49:21 Unknown
This is a scam, and a very good one, the message i very official sounding. We called the number on the back of the chase card and they told us there was no travel alert on our card. these people need to be caught.

THIS IS A SCAM! DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER BACK!
I just received a call, at my work number, asking me to call back this number and use reference #2500 when referring to this call. They said that an international travel alert had been placed on my Chase acct and to call back immediately if I had NOT done this. Well, I hadn't done this so I called Chase Bank directly from my Chase iPhone app. I was told by the representative that there was no travel alert on my acct and that this was a scam trying to get my information.
THIS IS A SCAM! DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER BACK!
harry stewart 2011-06-22 15:20:45 Unknown

Googled the (800)839-8396 and was not sure if legit. Called number on back of card. Chase people not very helpful. They have no clue if the above number is one of theirs or not. He did indicate that if Chase reached out to a customer they would note the file. I told them to forget any travel alerts, that I would use a different card. I had previously notified them that I was going to travel and use the Chase card.
Wabawaba 2011-06-07 20:48:21 Unknown
Sending an email is a much easier way for someone to commit fraud. If you receive an email from an entity claiming to be Chase, then you would possibly overlook the email. You are less likely to do that with a phone call/voice mail. Furthermore, you should know that some emails are deceptive, asking for personal information. Calling you back and asking you to call them only IF you did not call them about your travel plans sounds like a smart way to prevent someone else from messing with your credit history.
Dave 2011-06-06 20:58:32 Unknown
Think this is legit. They left me a voice mail about having placed a travel alert on my Chase card, which is exactly what I did a day ago. Also, the default action was to do nothing if I didn't think there was anything suspicious. Still, no reason not to just call the number on the back of your card to verify.
G 2011-06-06 20:58:32 Unknown
They called me claiming to be Chase fraud alert. I called the real Chase credit card number from the back of my card and they had never used the 800-839-8396 number nor was there any record of a Chase rep. calling me.
Claudia 2011-06-06 20:58:32 Unknown
Placed a travel alert on my account, this is an automated call to verify that it I did call them to do so. This is a legitimate number.
Simon 2011-06-06 20:58:32 Unknown
Yes, this is legit. It is indeed Chase fraud alert due to me placing a travel alert on your account. However, when I called, the regular call center knew nothing about it until I was transferred to the fraud department. They are just making sure it's legit. Not sure whether they do this ever time you set a travel alert (it's the first time doing it for me). Nice to have the added security.
