Remember scammers can spoof phone numbers now. They can actually make it appear to be coming from a completely different number than what is really calling you. It's always safer to call the number on the back of your card first and let them take care of/route your call.

Received a call from WF Card Services asking for my card information and other personal information. I hung up right away after they asked for that and they haven't called me since. I never give out my SSN or address over the phone, since you never know who's on the other line. They wanted me to pay money to them, but wouldn't tell me which account it was for. Riiiiight, I really believe this one. Plus, I could barely understand the caller due to their thick accent.

Then Wells Fargo needs to do a better job of screening the people they hire.  I just got a call from a person and the person said his name is "Dudley."  He had a heavy accent, possibly from Far East and I absolutely refuse to release any personal information to people with these accents.  If Wells Fargo wants people to answer their calls they need to use a legitimate caller ID and not "800 Service."

This is in fact a legitimate Wells Fargo number and is used to contact customers for a number or reasons including disputes concerning charges on customers accounts as well as to help customers that are behind on credit card payments find a solution to get their account current. In some cases customers do not know they even have a credit card if they signed up for overdraft protection when opening a checking account. In other cases there are examples of identity theft that get uncovered just by talking with a representative. I am currently employed directly for Wells Fargo and would be happy to assist any of our customers to find a resolution to their problem, even if it is as simple as a wrong number.

I have put an answer machine on my house phone. It answers all calls home or not. On my cell phone if I do not know the number I do not answer it. If they call back I save the number and name it ?DO NOT Answer?. Assign a "No Ring Tone? for the number. Next time they call I do not know until my phone gives a nice quiet missed call notice. When I think about it I use this reverse call info to see who it was. With this strategy I never talk to any telemarketers and the stress is all on them.

This was a legitimate phone call from the Dispute dept. of Wells Fargo Visa credit card. They helped me get my money back from a merchant who made me pay a bunch in advance, then never provided the materials or services. Thank goodness I charged it on my Visa card rather than pay by check! If you are in a similar circumstance as the customer, do not hesitate to take this call. (I suppose if you are the merchant they are trying to settle the dispute with on behalf of the customer, you would not be happy to get this call.)

I had the same thing happen to me...  They asked to speak to Ambersia (who ever that is).  I told them they had the wrong numbered and they kept asking over and over if I was Ambersia.  I had to hang up on them.  They claimed they were Wells Fargo but it was suspicious.

emily, having been a telemarketer and having been harassed by this number for several months now regardless of the fact that I don't have any affiliations with wells fargo, you're on the losing end of a battle, why defend these losers? unless you're the one on the other line, in which case I'll direct my harassment case at you since there's never anyone on the other line when I pick up. I had a creditor ask for a different phone number when I told them my father had died, do you have a brain? he's dead, no I didn't bury him with his phone because I was really just not willing to pay the roaming fees. so emily, do us all a favor and jump in a lake.

just got a call about some sort of services, couldn't understand the message left and the caller had a thick indian accent, if this is supposedly wells fargo I'll be sure to let my lawyer know where to direct the harassment suit, you call 12 times a day. If you really need to get a hold of me I'm sure there are other ways, also the fact that you call immediately after some European number doesn't make me want to answer the phone, it makes me want to change my number.

According to the Huffington Post:

Wells Fargo lied about the quality of thousands of loans it certified for a federal insurance program, a decision that ultimately cost the government $190 million in claims when those loans failed, according to a civil lawsuit filed by federal prosecutors on Tuesday.

From Jan. 1, 2002 through Dec. 31, 2010, Wells Fargo intentionally concealed the problems with 6,320 loans it had determined were "seriously deficient" from the Federal Housing Administration, which insured the loans, according to the complaint filed in Manhattan federal district court. The bank didn't report the problems with the loans even after its own risk department conducted reviews that according to one bank employee, unearthed "a dirty underbelly of bad loan officers," the lawsuit claims.

The number 503 is not a wells fargo number.  I contacted wells fargo and told they only call once to twice a month depending on if you have a bi-monthly payment.  I was also informed it would not be a computer call but a live agent instead.   That 503 number in OR is from a company called meridan and is a subsidiary of verizon wireless.   That is how they got our numbers.   At first they call they try to suck money out of you but don't know what account you owe money to.  If they can't scam money their computer will call you 10 - 15 times a day with no one answering and a hang up.  What they are doing is calling to find out what time of the day you answer to sell that info to telemarketers.

First time on this site and I would like to thank the WF team member for taking the time to explain some of the issues people have on this site.  I wish someone would teach our children in more about banking, credit cards, and loans in school. A lot of the anger from people is because they do not understand how credit cards work or the laws in their states about the rights of banks to call customers. They have had so many people calling them in the past trying to sell them something or collection calls from real collection agencies that when the bank calls them they do not realize we are calling them because they are our customers and are trying to offer them solutions to there financial needs. I can not tell you how many parents wish their children would graduate from school knowing more that they do about daily banking, credit cards and loans. Some say they do not even keep track of their debit card purchases.  Everyone uses money., everyone uses either a bank or some kind of similar institution weekly in their lives and they have no clue until it is too late and their credit is out of whack due to not learning the basics of handling money. If you have questions about phone calls or why your bank is calling you, you may want to read your contract that you signed and there is tons of answers to questions you all have about banks legal rights in your state on calling and I think the "h" word is totally being over used in today's world. It reminds me of my child whining when he has to clean his room. I go out of my way to help my customers and remember the old saying when you get those calls from your bank that we are here to assist you and we are your bank, not a 3rd party collection agency. It is tough out there for all of us right now and remember we are all human and all are working to make a living. Have a great day!

I, too, keep receiving calls from this number.. and I have never paid any bills late in my entire life.

I told them to stop calling and harassing me.  But they had the gall to call right back and leave a message for me to call them.

Maybe if these collection companies actually called the right number they'd recover some of their outstanding debts. Dumb as*ses keep calling the wrong number over and over and over. So the person who really owes money is beep bopping around without any harassing calls because they're calling me instead!

We received a number of harassing phone calls.

My husband talked with the WF employee and said, "Whom are you looking for?"

The employee said, "XXXXX XXX."

Then, my husband said, "And when did he give you that phone number?"

The employee admitted it was more than 7 years ago.

"Well, then," my husband said, "might that not be the same number now? And since we're customers and you have our data and this same phone number on file for us, might you know that we're not the same person you are trying to call?"

The employee said he would take our phone number off the list.

Then, we got called three more times.

I called 800-842-3603 and talked with a nice-sounding woman who said our number was marked "do not call" but maybe other employees had not carefully read the notes.

Hopefully, we'll be off the list for real this time.

WF Employee...you just said that the banking industry is bloodsucking? I about fell out of my chair. Make sure to mention that in your next interview. I hope its with me, because if you feel comfortable posting things like that on a message board for the whole world to see you should have no problem sharing your opinions with your leadership team right? Unreal. Personally I think we have the best bank out there by leaps and bounds. The reality is virtually no one (myself included before I worked at Wells) reads anthing besides the word "Signature" in any contract they sign. Most people are not in the finance world, so its not their job to understand every little caveat or clause. Although if you do not read the contract AND understand it fully you would be a fool to sign it. It is customers responsibility to ask questions and educate themselves so they can be an intelligent consumer. Bloodsucking? Ok..we give people the opportunity to borrow money so they can provide a nice house for their family. We let people borrow money backed by NO COLLATERAL and let them make MINIMUM payments to pay it back fi they want to instead of all in a lump sum. I could go on to auto loans, hom equity lines, and every other type of financial product we offer but the reality is we are setting people up to achieve their financial dreams. Sometimes bad things happen and the only choices you have left are less than optimal. That's not "bloodsucking." The reality is you should have no more outstanding credit than you have money in the bank (with the possible exception of a mortgage). Period. Anything else is purely irresponsible. And now its time to go to work.

So what you do, is call in, tell them you need a number removed, tell them the number that they are calling, and ask them who they are calling for. Let them know you don't have any sort of affiliation with WF and if they don't pull up your number, it's simply a wrong number. There are so many phone numbers that get changed, are unverified, or are simply mistakes, it's hard to tell. be polite. yes some people are rude, but overall, but are doing their job to pay their bills and take care of their family, it IS irritating to get calls from a company you don't have business with, work it out, don't make threats..to be honest, the threats do NOTHING.  =)

FIRST OFF...I'm not bias to WF just bc I work for them..but working for them provides me with information that's accurate and not what is portrayed in the media or by people who just state their opions as if they were facts. SECOND what I'm about to say are FACTS obtained through working for the company and getting first hand info from higher corporate.  Okay..I've read through all of these posts...and to be honest..a lot of people just don't know what's going on and they are posting their opinions..which is the natural thing to do..but in response to the bailout..WF was asked to take the bailout...when WF said they didn't need it, the gov't basically told them that they had to take it because it would make the other banks look bad. (to simplify of course). Then, not only did WF pay it back IN FULL (yes WF pays their loans) but WF also lent the money to mortgage customers AND credit customers.  So to set the record straight, WF would NOT be out of business wihtout the bailout. Also, other banks who are simply forgiving debt and bending over backwards to try to help those in need (which I definitely think people these days need all of the financial help they can get due to the economy in some areas), those banks are screwing themselves out of profit, and THEY are the banks who need help because they are giving out money and then telling people they don't have to pay all of it back or lowering interest rates (which if you knew, banks only make about a 2% profit from intrst rates, which is why they are so high..they are a business..they have to make money) How would you like it if one of the biggest banks in America went bankrupt and screwed millions of people out of 401k, stock, cds, etc.. you WOULDN'T.  FDCPA is a WF policy, not law. WF chooses to use FDCPA as a guideline, but FDCPA applies to 3rd party collections. WF collections is the original creditor.  No, they are not all scumbags..that was very ignorant of people to assume.  Yes..some collectors are a***oles, I agree..but I must say..mistakes are made.. when people disappear from the earth to run from their debt, and google, whitepages, etc..pulls out random numbers under those peoples names, addresses, or relative names (sometimes thru error), you may continually get calls. See the call through without being a jerk, and if a rep is an a** to you...call bak and talk to someone else without being rude, insulting, or immature. and the comment about people not being intelligent, honestly, not everyone is intelligent, and not everyone has great english, oh well! You are in america, call back and try to talk to someone who you can understand, big whoop. As far as people harrassing you, talk to someone when they call, you may tell them the same thing sometimes, they don't always get a chance to read through your notes before the call is shoved onto them. Tell them to please read the notes, answer their questions, and end the call. That way they don't call every 5 minutes. (which if they leave a message does NOT happen)  oh and Cease and desist?? Be careful what you ask for..because when you're ready to work it out with WF about your debt..you have to bend over backwards to get anything done bc you told them you refused to speak to them via phone. (which cause more collections, more credit bureau reporting, more fees, more time, less solutions.)  Got any questions..post em..try me. Not saying WF is amazing..cause the banking world is pretty blood sucking..but damn...get the facts straight please before you rampage your emotions.

This is a new cell phone number and this number is the ELEVENTH different collection agency calling to reach a different person. This particular caller was from Wells Fargo and was looking for the same person the other collectors are calling for. After trying to explain that I wasn't the person on the other end they were attempting to reach (it's a girls name) the person from Wells Fargo was extremely rude to me and demanded that I send them a payment now. I told them I wasn't "Janelle" and that I didn't even have a Wells Fargo account. Even worse they are calling on a Sunday afternoon. They are going on my block list.

OUT OF AREA caller id no number showing claiming to be WELLS FARGO from Manuel or Emmanuel couldn't understand most of message or his ext. only a couple of words could be understood. "IF" this is WELLS FARGO why the OUT OF AREA no number caller id? Don't have a WELLS FARGO account or do any kind of business with them either. Do they not screen who they put on the phone that can at least talk decent english or at least be able to understand what they are saying? Just seems like a weird call from a place that is hiding caller id /number but uses WELLS FARGOs' name so you answer, have had several other calls claiming to be WELLS FARGO but when you call WF they have no clue whose number that calls is using their name.
