Debt Collector
6/20/2014 @ 11:22 CT. Received call from 800.848.2170 and was prompted to press 1 for English or 2 for Espanol. The call transferred to Gordon Young. I told him they contacted me and asked why they were calling. He asked if I was Patty Smith. I informed him that I was not, there was no Patty Smith at this number and asked who he was calling from. He said Commonwealth Financial. I told him Mr. Young had my number for a few years and it was no longer affiliated with Patty Smith. He said he would remove my number from their file. I doubt it will happen though. These debts collection agencies simply repackage the accounts that can not be easily resolved and resell the portfolio. Ever since I started answering these calls in an attempt to get them to stop calling, I am contacted every month by different collection agency trying to contact Patty Smith. I used to get calls for yet another deadbeat who also had my number previously, but that guy died so those calls ceased. Reporting the collection agencies seems fruitless. It is also pointless to change phone numbers since every number I have gotten in recent history also resulted in calls from collection agencies for deadbeats previously assigned the same number.

I found your shouting offensive. Who the hell are you to lecture people on their lives. A simple FYI about what the call list applies to would have been helpful. I too am getting these calls and owe money to no one and neither do my children. The caller was told they had the wrong number and name but insisted the information they had was for this number and implied I was lying This is a mobile number and only family and friends have it. So stop yelling at people! you were not impressive.

Debt Collector
I have been receiving calls every day for the past 3 weeks at 9am and 4pm CST. I finally answered the phone and after being put on hold, the guy was very rude to me and told me to give him my birthday. I told him n, ot until he tells me who he was and what he was calling about. He began to yell at me about wasting his time. I told him that I didn't hear him and he said it again. He then said that if I didn't want to talk, then I shouldn't have called. HE CALLED ME!! He again said that I was wasting his time(as if he wasn't wasting my time on my cellular phone). He said that he should hang up. I told him that he should hang up and he did. I searched online for the number and it is registered to Commonwealth Financial Systems. I reported them to the Better Business Bureau. Their (meaning Commonwealth Financial Systems)local office number is (570) 347-1115, if you want to talk to them directly and complain

NCC constantly calls me and tries to get my personal information from me. They claim to be a collection agency and can never let me talk to an american who i can understand. They claim i owe a bill to a hospital that my daughter went to in 2010. My daughters bills are paid by her insurance, and they assured me that bill was paid in 2010. If you don't give them information or confirm anything they are asking you, they get mad and hang up on you. If you argue with them and tell them it has been paid already, they yell and get nasty with you. These people are a fraud operating out of the country probably in India. If you don't answer your phone when they call, they will call you constantly. Don't fall for it. just report them

Get over yourself. I pay all my bills on time. Many of us getting these annoying collection calls have phone numbers that were previously assigned to deadbeats. I made the mistake of changing phone numbers because I kept getting collection calls at my first number. The last two people who had my current landline # were deadbeats with multiple collection agencies trying to contact both of them. One bill collector shared their info with me (just confirmed what I had already learned from an online search) and removed me from their list. Seems like whenever I actually talk to a person, they simply clear that account from their collection portfolio, sell the account to yet another collection agency and the calls start from the new agencies. This has gone on for years. The last person who had my number has a child in the school district and I still get calls from the school from the nurse's office, for closings and PTA meeting announcements. For a couple of years, I was unable to catch a live person and finally called the vice-principal an school nurse who finally left their contact info. There were days that I received multiple calls from the school nurse that the woman's daughter was sick and needed to be picked up and taken home. She should be in trouble for child negligence. The person before had the number before that listed her old number (my landline) on a job application earlier this year. When Fidelity called, I let them know that I was not the candidate they were trying to contact but I was interested in their job offer. LOL.

I just got a call from NCC, 1-(800)848-2170. My husband answered and they wanted J Whittig. She said it was very important and it was not a telemarketer. She wanted my last 4 digits of my SS number, and then hung up. I told her I was disabled and didn't want any thing. Me and my husband has excellent credit. What do I do next?

First off, they are a legitimate company as I have personally represented over a dozen clients who had debts in collections listed with Commonwealth Financial Systems. They only have access to the information provided with the debt from the original client, as they are a 3rd party debt collector. Most cases you can request whats called an itemized bill which if the original client is wiling to provide will document what was charged for what procedure. Furthermore 95% of the accounts they represent are medical bills and there's something called HIPAA which protects your privacy and all your detailed info, so they are limited with what they have access too. You as the consumer can contact the hospital directly and acquire much much more info.
Lastly once something is sold into collections it cannot be settled with the original creditor because they actually sell ownership of the debt. If the collection agency is representing the original client then you can, otherwise, If you pay the original creditor the debt will not be removed from your credit report.

PLEASE GET ACCURATE INFORMATION BEFORE STEERING THESE PEOPLE THE WRONG WAY !
Thank you and have a great day.

You have to understand that the child's phone number did not always belong to him/her. Phone numbers these days are recycled.

The DNC list for telemarketers & solicitations so it would not apply to debt collections. If they don't comply with a verbal cease & desist you can type one and mail it. You will not be contacted thereafter.

You should really check your facts before calling people names who are merely doing their job. This "moron" legally cannot contact the nursing home in regards to the debt. So I guess "David" wasn't the "dolt" after all.

Many times people are unaware of an unpaid bill, such as physicians fees which then are sold in collections and posted to your credit report. If it is the wrong number simply say so. If it is in fact your bill and you simply don't want anymore calls, verbally request they cease & desist contacting you by phone and they will have to send future correspondence thru the mail.

Yes, tell them exactly whats going on. That you have no idea who this person is, basically that its the wrong number and you will be removed from the auto-dialer.

So if someone asks you to pay YOUR debt that makes them scam artists ? .. You people realize if you paid your bills you wouldn't be in this situation. If its the wrong number just say so and your number will be removed from the dialer.

I'd have to categorize this as "probable scam" even though some people here think they're legit.  Legit collectors have documentation and don't just call you and hang up or get their information wrong.

I also have a sexual predator from PA who's been stalking me for years, and the fact that they're from Pennsylvania sort of freaks me out.  I live nowhere near PA.  Has anyone else encountered susupicious activity, like stalkers or people who they don't want to make contact with, prior to calls from this company?  Was someone you consider dangerous trying to force their way into their lives, and maybe they'd do anything to find out where you are, or get personal information to locate you?  I also noticed that I started getting those Eastern European identity theft scams, supposedly trying to sell me a security system, right around the time this started, like they're connected, or another flavor of it.

To me it might be a front for very dangerous people.  Exercise extra caution, don't give them any information on your whereabouts, and try to get everything from them in writing.  Also make sure that the debt, if you have one, is settled with the original creditor.

They wouldn't discuss anything further without me telling them the last 4 digits of my social. And by "discuss further" all she said was her company name when she answered, and when I asked who this was or what they wanted, she wouldn't tell me. ...They called me, no way am I giving out my SSN.

The fact that people have had children called by these people makes me suspcious.  I was victimized by sexual predators in Pennsylvania and now I read that this call originates in Pennsylvania.  It's very possible that they're trying to track me down, AND lure children into their net.  Never give them any info they don't already have, and never pay an agency unless you get it all on paper and verify with the original creditor that they're the party who bought it.  Then check your credit score later to be sure the payment is reported.

It has been 4 months and the calls for Andrew Stafford have started again. Of course they are robocalls and give you the option of pressing 2 if you are not who they are looking for but they did the same thing 4 months ago. I am sick of these leeches. Anyone have suggestions?
