Hi-ho Lone Stranger,
I recognize this is a comment more than a year after you posted yours (and doubt that you will ever revisit it), but thank you very much. You were much more tactful toward the ignorant Dude than I would have been. Compliments to your restraint. If, Dude had taken time, at some small moment in his otherwise overwhelmingly busy life, he too might have stumbled on WATS (wide area telephone service), a service available through the Bell System/AT&T (originally) since the middle 1950's when it became possible for private businesses to have the equivalent of their own direct access to the AT&T long distance dial-up network at a discounted long distance cost by the call, minute, or month. As far as ANI is concerned, ANI means Automatic Number Identification, originally a process developed by Bell Labs/AT&T to capture origination caller information and pass it along for telephone company billing purposes, and later as a paid service to heavy duty business phone customers who desired to get info about incoming calls- Incoming Automatic Number Identification (IANI). 40+ years ago  IANI turned into the customer calling feature Caller ID, although not as rich in info, with only phone number and name info. I was around working for the monopoly-monolith- dinosaur AT&T when all this was being developed and deployed. Now, as far as far as Men's Warehouse is concerned...I guaranty it...

As for level headed, I did call and opt out.  That isnt the point.  The point is its my phone number, not your marketing property.  I did not consent to being added.  I had to take time and now hope I'll actually be unsubscribed, and that my number isnt permanently in some database.  ID theft happens when companies don't respect your privacy.  If they don't respect privacy for marketing, what else won't they do.   How can I trust you didnt sell it to 15 other marketers, all of whom I now would have to opt out from.

Marketers and your ilk need to be convicted of harrassment and theft, maybe you'd get a clue then.

To some of us, who use our phones at home for business, it is a damn big deal not to get slammed onto marketers lists without consent.

I will never shop at a Mens Wearhouse again.  I spent $1400 there this year, but if the consequence of that includes being added to telemarketers, then they can count on never receiving any business of mine permanently as long as I live.  And I hope whoever thought this policy up is reading.

YOU DO NOT HAVE MY CONSENT TO CALL YOU MISERABLE MARKETING SWINE

Agreed with the level-headed people.  For all the whining and complaining some have done here, I'd be happy to bet that few - if any - took the one or two minutes to ask to not be called again .... after all, if they did, what would they complain about then?!?

Just did what someone previously said to do. Called back, press 3, and asked to be added to the DNC list. Absolutely no fuss, the man I spoke to was very nice, and it took less than 15 seconds to do.

Just got a call from this # -- My husband bought a suit from them a few months ago. Same thing -- as soon as I answered they hung up. Weird.

Yeah, just got a call from this number and a hang up. Not sure if it was a person or a machine. They just hung up as soon as I said hello. But I did recently make a purchase at Men's Warehouse and only gave 'em my number to tell me when my order was ready to pick up. hmmm...

Yup.  Got this call today.  It's very annoying that they 'steal' your number and use it to telemarket!  I only gave them my number to call me when my pants were ready.......so yeah this annoys the crap out of me.  And, it's not just them........many places are staring to do this!

I got a telemarketing call from Men's Warehouse in the middle of a meeting. I told the marketer I was not interested, and he continued with his annoying pitch.

I assure you I will never buy another suit from MWH because of this.

Don't make it a big deal. It took me less than a minute to call and be added to DNC list. They're just trying to drive critical retail traffic.

When are companies going to learn that alienating customers with intrusive and unwanted phone calls is bad for business?  I've made a number of purchases from Men's Wearhouse, and had a favorable opinion of them.

Then they decided to start calling me.  One unwanted phone call negates a lot of previously generated good will.

When I called them back to let them know that the next call I get from them will result in my never doing business with them again, the person I spoke with stated they had the same reaction to telemarketers.

How hard is it to understand that telemarketing is the worst idea in the world if you are an established legitimate business which enjoys a lot of customer loyalty?

I'm sure business is slow for them, people without jobs don't need suits.  But making them mad so that when they get jobs they shop somewhere else isn't a great solution.  Neither is this thing they have been doing where the sales people call you by your first name.

Get a clue Men's Wearhouse.

Dude,

While technology has admittedly made the original concept a bit passe', there is absolutely such a thing.  What the public refers to as "800" numbers, is, more formally, INBOUND WATS (Wide Area Telephone Service).  Correspondingly, there is such a thing as OUTBOUND WATS.  Of course, such service is "toll free" only to the extent that the recipient is paying the bill instead of the caller.  I believe in my case I'm paying 2.4 cents a minute - it costs a little more, but you also get that juicy ANI info regular service doesn't provide.

By your overly broad definition, almost all businesses and institutions are "spoofing" their CID (caller ID) because we typically send the number we want people to use to call us, not the actual number of the specific phone in use.  (Or would you prefer that you get telemarketing calls coming to your hospital and hotel rooms?)

Spoofing might more appropriately be used to describe an action taken to conceal the true identity of the caller by transmitting false and deceptive information.  The case you have described as spoofing does not involve sending false or deceptive information, it is merely the number on which they ARE accepting incoming calls.  Two VERY different scenarios.  And while many of them are telemarketers, many of them are also customer service departments, billing departments, parts departments, hotels, and other very legitimate activities.

So, the next time you want to offer a "BIG HINT" to all the dudes and dudettes out there, I would kindly and respectfully ask you to think it through a bit, and make certain it really is a "big hint", and something that others will find useful.  In any case, thanks for playing, and I wish you well.

Got a call 12/17/10. They left a message and it is in fact Men's warehouse telling me about the buy one get one free offers in stores now.
I have bought from them before but this is the first time they have called.
I wonder if they are willing to pay for airtime?

This number just called me, yes I've shopped at Men's Warehouse before so it's probably them.

BIG HINT: There are no such things as outgoing 1-800 or 1-888 or any other toll-free numbers. People calling from such numbers are, by definition, spoofing their number, and the vast majority of them are telemarketers.

Don't you mean that you should ask to be ADDED to their "Do Not Call List"?  Or taken off their "Call List"?

They called again. It is Men's Wearhouse. Call them back, push 3 to speak with a customer relations representative, and ask to be removed from their "Do Not Call" list.

Called on May 28. Didn't leave a message.

Google seems to think the number belongs to Men's Wearhouse. I've bought things from them before, but I've never received a call from them before.
