I've received a similiar call. This is a scam.

Read this people. Just because Deaf or hearing impaired people can't HEAR, doesn't mean they can't read or type an email.

Make sure you make them pay through paypal only. Paypal.com will confirm the address and the person credit card. You can't go wrong unless the scammers have access to a paypal account.

My husband and I own a drycleaners in Ky.  We got a call today from someone using the relay service trying to say they were moving here from Colorado and wanted to send us 60 comforters to be cleaned. They needed to send us a check for the full amount plus the $1290.00 for shipping so that we could send the shipping money via western union to the person taking care of the shipping.  As soon as they said that I knew it was a fake and hung up. People have the nerve using a service for the handicap to screw people.

Non-profit Organization
Caller said she was deaf. She was representing the Faith Diabetes Foundation and wanted to buy the cheapest diabetes supply for charity. She wanted to order worth $3,724.41 of merchandise. Did not want to leave me a phone number for the organiztion or a Business license number. She/he claims that it was her/his business. Proposed to pay cash (generous for charity). Followed phone call with a fax # from another state. Wanted to pick up right away. Asked for credit card policy. This is surely a SCAM. They are trying to find the best price to re-sale. DO NOT DEAL with any person solliciting business with no proof of identity and using TTY.

Experienced  the similar scam last weekend - the customer ordered 200 count of the same dish to be picked up and instructed me to overcharged on the credit card a fee which I shall wired, using Western Union, to a special courier.  The name "Western Union" was what triggered my suspicion.

We are selling puppies but rather than an 800 number we were receiving Yahoo texts with the same scam, hearing impaired, we will send check and you send money back western union.  3 different yahoo people and numbers but same scenario and "DEDUCT THE MONEY THAT ACQUIRE TO YOU"  quite suspicious.  I was glad to check the internet on this phrase and hearing impaired to find this information.  Thank you for sharing and for anyone else out there it is still happening - be careful!

I think somebody jusgt called me trying to scam me. I am selling puppies and they wanted me to take a certified check and pay the person who was going to pick the puppy up out of the check. I was kind of leary when the caller had to keep telling me the reason why they could not call me was because they are hearing impaired. I just want to find my pups good home and not be scammed in the process.

Our business received 2 TTY assisted calls but the caller ID showed 2 different(504)area code phone numbers. On reverse look-up these were private unlisted numbers. The service the supposed "customer" wanted didn't make sense, so we had a heads up that something wasn't right.
We then received a message on our recorder from 800-855-0000 - "consider me an interested person - this caller is probably a scammer - be very careful when dealing with this person."
Thank you AT&T relay operator who is probably putting their job in jeopardy by such a warning.

Scammer, probably from Nigeria using IP Relay- wanted to order 7 really large arrangements,  pay for it with a credit card,  charge $100 extra and have us pay $1000 via Western Union to an unnamed "shipper" who would be picking these up -
Shame on these scammers who abuse a legitimate service that is a lifeline to the hearing impaired!

I have no idea who it was as they apparently couldn't hear me for some reason.  But they just wouldn't hang up... I was trying to see how long it would take, but she just sat there saying "Hello?" for over 5 minutes.  I have no idea which of my numbers they called because I have 199 different numbers all over North America that forward to my BlackBerry.  The best part is though that only my exclusive clients have these numbers.

I can understand it being a relay call because that's how i can communicate with some of my relatives when I don't have the tty plugged up. Whether or not someone is using the services to try to scam you all i don't know. I know that Relay services for the hearing impaired are very legit. I will have to wait for another call from them to see if this is indeed the relay number.

Well. I happen to know a lot about relay. Yes that whtat it is. Its for deaf or hard hearing people. The call you from the computer using one of the relay employees. I know a lot of my friends use it for prank calls though. AT&T is one of the relay users. It has very easy access all you have to do is go 2 AT&T relay and click make a call. type in the persons phone number and your in. So its most likly by somone you know pranking you.

and if u answer it once and tlk to them the stop. I get one from my brother or one of my friends every week. (there not deaf) so no alarm its really nothing.

This number has called my place of business 2x. I own a Body & Mechanical repair shop. They were trying to get me to wire $3,000 to Texas to have a vehicle towed to my shop in MD. I told them that I was on to their Scam and they hung up. The operator identified herself as a TTY operator for AT&T.

This is a tty and because I advertise online, scammers use this service to try the basic Nigerian scam. They must use the tty so we cannot hear the accent. If you advertise goods or services online that can be bought by private individuals, if you get these calls, they are most likely scams.

I got the person's email address and sent her a message, but i still get 2 calls a day.  I just stopped answering.......

Someone made a call with the AT&T Relay Service when you get calls from this service. They are looking for Cat & Cummins equipment parts. We get a few calls every single month, useually from the same guy. He faxes 7 emails us too, but it almost 99.999999% of the time is a SCAM! These calls are usually scams. They are supposed to be from people who are deaf and access the internet, but people scam them. It is a terrible shame that this service is abused.

Yes, same story with me. I just opened a restaurant. Someone called using reley services. They placed an order for 200 guests for a wedding. They kept avoiding giving me details as well. They asked me to send money via Western union to pay the person that will be picking up the food. I was to pat them with extra money they charged on the credit card over the phone. They were very vague in reasons why it had to be done this way. Eventually I demanded to speak with a representative of the company who is picking up the food. When the supposed manager called me, I ran the number from whitepages.com under reverse phone lookup, and the number came back to a cell phone in North Carolina. which didn't make sense because my business is in Indiana, where I was suppose to send the money was in Georgia, and the supposed customer had a Texas cell phone number. When I spoke with the currier he first answered the phone with an African accent, by the end of the conversation he sounded Chinese.
