I just got the same phone call few minutes ago. I did the exact same thing you did; I hung up the phone and called my bank immediately after just to find out there was nothing wrong with my debit card. The scary part is that when you answer your phone and they say this is a call from "your bank name" it is the same recording that your actual bank uses. After talking to my bank they said that when the actual bank calls they will never ask you for the whole debit/credit card or account number, and they will ask more security questions to verify you are the owner of the card.

Got a voicemail that didn't identify what company but said my debit card was locked unless I press 1.   The call was cut off.  I checked with my bank who said it was not them and they said it was a scam.  Glad I didn't answer the original call and might have been caught off guard.  Why aren't these things being investigated and shut down?

Received call from this # at 1:46 am this morning.  No message was left on my vm.  I called the # back just now and spoke with a very nice lady at Windstream.  She said many people have called this morning to report this and that they, Windstream, are investigating these "rogue" calls.  I did not give her any personal information. I work for a law firm so I called from work so that the law firm's # showed when I called.  She seemed very apologetic and said she could call me back once they knew what happened but I refused the return phone call because i didn't want to give my cell phone #.

Call from this numer last night 2:08 a.m., even people that I want to hear from I don't want to hear from at that hour. They have been pretty busy recently - perhaps they think people will consider emergency in the middle of the night and give up info before they wake up?

I got this on VM only the last part too about card being locked. SW FLORIDA. Never ever give account number or PIN over the phone unless you are the only who placed the call and know who is on the other line. Best to hang up, and call your bank your self if you actually have an account from the place that gave you the suspect message.

I also got a call from this number at 2:07am. What the hell....who calls at 2:00 in the morning I actually got outta bed to see who was calling when I noticed it was an 1-800 number I didn't pick up. My wife said she had received a phone call from this number earlier that evening about her Suncoast Credit Union debit card being on hold..only thing is she doesn't have one...total scam but not sure what it is yet. Sometimes they do this to see if your number is an actual working number. and when you press the 1 or 2 it tells them that someone answered the pone and your number goes in a database for them to sell to some other scammer or telemarketer.

I received an automated call displaying this number saying my Suncoast Federal Schools account was locked out and it asked me to enter my account number. I entered 1234... It was rejected. Then I entered 111... and then 222... until it said good bye and disconnected. I tried to dial the number and it won't even ring. I don't even have a Suncoast account.

Received a phone call from this 800-8591403 number with a recorded message saying they have block my card due to fraud....press 1 to block and 2 to close....I pressed 0 because I do not have an account with any credit union....pressed 0 three more times and then the call disconnected.   At this time, I really wanted to speak with them due to the fraudelant jerks out there...I am proactive in protecting myself so I called them from a landline and got a recorded answer to leave my phone number...

Conclusion...some scam

Got a call too at 1:30am on my cell. It went to VM but left no message. I have not applied for any credit except for a 6 month same as cash for Firestone tires about a week ago at a Firestone store. They put the Firestone credit card thru Credit First National Association (CFNA). Firestone had my cell number but CFNA I believe, only had my home number. This could very well be related but don't know for sure. My understanding is CFNA also does credit for all kinds of tire stores. Since you brought up the possibility that credit applications could be the culprit, I thought maybe my credit application could possibly be the source for my phone call....don't know for a fact Firestone or CFNA is the culprit but may be a place to start looking.

Hope this helps. I just can't believe they are making calls at 1 and 2am...who is going to take anyone seriously at that hour?

I too got a call at 02:35 this morning. Same scam...Suncoast debit card. They called my wife's cell number. My wife and I filled out a credit application yesterday, first and only time my Suncoast account was ever tied to her cell phone number. (We have only been married 1 year, she did not change her last name, and is not on ANY of my Suncoast accounts). From this blog trail it looks like WindStream was using 800-859-1403 until a year ago and now this new scam is using it. If you are reading this, you too have been called by these a$$holes. If you have, please think back if you have filled out any credit applications in the past few days that may be similar to my case. If others can verify the credit application is where this information is being leaked from, it can narrow down who is doing it. Please take the time to help stop this, I will check this site back over the next few days to read replies. In the mean time I will at least identify who owns the number. If I can get enough help, I will pursue legal action against them.
