I received a call from these people too for the same reason however on a home I haven't owned in a year.
When I said I no longer even owned the home, the scam artist who called me said he wasn't aware that I was no longer the home owner but that I still needed to buy the insurance or they were going to buy it and charge me for it to "protect" their "investment".
I told them to knock themselves out doing whatever they wanted - that I don't own the home, that I'm not buying insurance for a home I don't own and if anything shows up on my credit file I'm going to take legal action against them. And I will
So far I haven't heard from them again.

Hey People, WAKE UP!!! Wells Fargo owns Assurant that also goes by the name American Security. Wells Fargo will state they do not have your current hazard insurance, then force this Assurant/American Security hazard insurance on you. These policies are more expensive and do not cover as well. Wells Fargo has done this to me several times. I had better home insurance by a better insurance company and Wells Fargo forces this hazard insurance on you and takes the money out of your escrow. Worst part of it is that I cannot find anyone who will go against Wells Fargo and their insurance company, Assurant/American Security.

If Wells Fargo would start doing their job and quit trying to scam their customers by pretending that they don't have this information, then no calls would be generated by them.

I got my call at work. I never gave out my work number. I was told to call 800-862-4098 or go online. I figured this was bogus since they never identified themselves.

Sad to say but Assurant is in league with Wells Fargo. I just spoke to a Wells Fargo Home Mortgage rep from the customer support number listed on my billing statement, (800-340-0473). She gave me the FAX number I needed to reinstate my existing policy and drop what is listed on my account as AMERICAN SECURITY GROUP and FORCED ORDER BINDER under my escrow details from the Wells Fargo's website.
The website SteveWi listed previously ( http://financial.wellsfargo.com/consumer/paymenthelp/overdue.html ) under "Lender placed insurance" is good proof of Assurant's validity except the fax number is different than the one given to me from the Wells rep, (843) 413-2015.
This whole experience certainly feels like a SCAM since I don't recall receiving any certified letters or correspondence from Wells Fargo stating I am out of compliance. Their own website has a messaging system for account holders and yet no message was sent there either.

This is a scam guys I got a Voice Mail from 866-826-4884 claiming this is Wells Fargo and that my hazzard Insurance was about to expire that I need to mail them proof. It's just fishy..... the call, the mycoverageinfo.com website.

They may be trying to help, but they need to learn a thing or twelve about customer experience and trust. Nothing about the phone call made me feel safe enough to actually move ahead with the instructions.
Why can't they send me a nice professional email?

The Hazard Insurance Processing Center represents Wells Fargo, is a US based business. This is not a scam. I am an insurance agent who deals with the Hazard Insurance Processing Center they can get Wells Fargo to process a payment from your escrow account even overnight it for you. I deal with them on a daily basis. Most are quite professional. They are trying to help you.

This is indeed WellsFargo Home Mortgage calling re hazard insurance. The caller-id is "TOLL FREE" which does not correctly identify the caller...I delete the messages without listening to them. Today I contacted WellsFargo to confirm the calls. They have a log of each time a

This is a number Wells Fargo Home Mortgage uses for borrowers who do not have current insurance information on their system; leading to Lender (Force) Placed Insurance being taken out on your behalf. It leads to a Hazard Insurance Processing Center where you will be asked to provide your current insurance information.
If you have been asked to call this number, you have a mortgage with Wells Fargo and either your insurance has lapsed, or your insurance agent has not sent your new policy in.

Automated call claimed to be Wells Fargo and that my Home Owners Insurance info needed to be updated. Sent me to www.mycoverageinfo.com. I figure it's a scam and reported it to Wells Fargo.

This call is bizarre. The rep who left a message on my phone didn't leave a phone number to call back on clearly, I couldn't understand the last 2 digits of the phone number So I dialled 3 different numbers that she might have said, the first 2 numbers had a message saying 'press 1 to get the updated number' and there's a $9.99 charge to get the number. Fortunately, I didn't but could see how easily a person could do that.
To my mind, this is likely a scam that the numer was not given clearly - the rep detailed the numbers individually up to the last 2 digits of the phone number so instead of saying 'One Nine' she said 'Ninety' or "Nineteen'.
Finally I tried 92 and that got me through to some one claiming they were from Wells Fargo. Consequently, whilst talking to the rep I typed in 800 862 4098 and came up with this site listing all the grievances that other people have had. So I just told the rep to send me a letter.
If I didn't have my wits about me I would have pressed 1 and been charged 9.99 for nothing. Very clever scam! Not charging too much to bother and perhaps ignoring but those $9.99s add up.
May these THIEVES suffer miserable lives for stealing from people

I received a letter stating that my hazard insurance had expired. Its the same story as the above so I wont repeat it. One difference is I am with BECU. So it is not just with Wells Fargo customers. I just refinanced with BECU and the date in the letter when my hazard insurance supposedly 'expired' is about the day of my refinance. So somehow this phishing site is getting this information. I cant imagine that BECU or WF is giving it out.
Thankfully I found this site before I entered my data into the phishing site. Also confirmed on my BECU account that they do have my hazard insurance info and it is up to date.
Do not enter any info into mycoverageinfo.com or give any personal info over the phone. It is absolutely a fraud!
charles roach 2012-09-25 18:04:15 Unknown
There appears to be some question as to the validity of the letter sent to me. Some of the information is inaccurate and no information is forthcoming without proper validation. I caught 8 counterfeit Wells Fargo certified mony checks two months ago so you understand my reluctance. Proper Home owners coverage is in full force and effect with the proper loss payables. I am a retired insurance underwriter. The current coverage meets and exceeds any and all requirements.

after one month since we bought a house, got the mortgage from Wells Fargo. Received a letter from WF asking for my home insurance document. I faxed the document to 1-843-413-2015.
Two month later, received another letter saying they bought the hazard insurance on my behalf. Also asking for update our insurance info. try to access www.mycoverageinfo.com, but the PIN they offered is unvalid .

This might not be a scam after all. After receiving this type of call from 866-826-4884 and reading these posts, I googled "Assurant Inc Wells Fargo." The first hit was a Wells Fargo page (http://financial.wellsfargo.com/consumer/paymenthelp/overdue.html) which reads in part "Provide proof of your current coverage to Assurant (see contact information below)." So it appears that Wells Fargo may have contracted Assurant to handle proof of insurance cases.

absolutely the past 3 years pnc mortgage and key bank they are both pulling same deceptive practices for past 3 years i keep faxing my agent sends to them then they say ok then 2 weeks later they state they donot have my updated insurance who can we report them to ?? what good would it do

They called me AND my insurance agent demanding a copy of my policy. Myself and my agent ignored the call. I have now received a letter, on Wells Fargo letterhead, demanding a copy of my policy. There is no phone number to call, only a fax and a URL to my coverageinfo.com. My coverage is and has been paid in full the entire time, confirmed with Wells Fargo.
The URL is registered to Assurant Inc., with an administrative contact at Alston & Bird LLP.
This is either flat-out deception to change policies for someone's financial gain, or (more likely) there was an error in Wells Fargo's records that my insurance is not in effect.

I have received the same request for homeowner's insurance proof, except by mail. The envelope has the Chase name and logo and the letter has the address listed as Chase Insurance Processing Center, PO Box 47020, Atlanta, GA 30362. The request is to update current insurance information to the following web site: www.mycoverageinfo.com. At the bottom of the letter is a disclaimer that Answer Financial is a independent insurance agency that is not affilidated with JPMorgan Chase....It seems like insurance companies have enough legal support to push the limits of deception without being busted for fraud.
bill 2012-07-20 21:06:43 Unknown
This sounds like a legitimate explanation.
But the calls sound more like b***s***. WF has my physical address - send me a letter. Don't call me up with a company name that I've never heard of and put a robo-call system on.
When they send me a letter and I know who I'm dealing with I'll respond to it.
Jennifer 2012-02-11 03:07:42 Unknown
Wells Fargo does not ask for homeowner information via phishing phone calls. If Wells Fargo needs that information it will send you a formal letter.

Got a call from this number. They left a message saying they are from Wells Fargo, and they have "been unable to obtain current insurance information. This information is required to based on the terms of your mortgage agreement. Please provide your insurance carrier and policy information to us by logging into mycoverageinfo.com."
mycoverageinfo.com is registered to Assurant Inc, a homeowners insurance company of dubious standards.
Wells Fargo seems to have sold mortgage account information to Assurant, because the number I received this call on was provided only to Wells Fargo and no one else.
Now Assurant is now claiming to be Wells Fargo itself. This is flat out a SCAM and misrepresentation. Assurant is trying to get you to switch homeowners insurance by underhand means.
My question for Wells Fargo is this: are you going to do something about the fact that Assurant is claiming to be Wells Fargo ?

800-862-4098 left me a v/m saying they are Wells Fargo and have been unable to obtain required current home insurance information. Then telling me to log in at www.mycoverageinfo.com w/ a PIN number provided or Fax docs to 843-413-7988.
After looking up the DNS of the website I see it's a telemarketing call phishing to more than likely get me to switch home owners insurance.
http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/mycoverageinfo.com
www.mycoverageinfo.com is registered to Assurant, Inc. (www.assurant.com) Assurant is a provider of specialized insurance products and related services in North America and other worldwide markets.

Received a call from this number 800-862-4098. The caller identified herself as my mortgage company and that there was a very important matter she needed to discuss with me. She then asked for my home address. I did not give it to her. I stated that I was at work, it wasn't a good time to call and that I would call her back. They gave me the 1-800 number and I called my bank to speak to a mortgage representative who confirmed that the phone number and call were a prank call and not a legitamate call from the mortgage company.
Then.....Received recorded call from this number. The caller identified himself as my mortgage company, the holder of my mortgage. The recording said there was no record of my home insurance and prompted me to call this number before my mortgage was cancelled. The number leads to a Hazard Insurance company that's trying to scam people into switching their insurance coverage to them.
