Here's the deal.  You can do two things to get this crap to stop.  First thing you do is get their address.  Send them a certified letter with a cease and desist order.  You simply tell them that you forbid them from contacting you or anyone else regarding this matter by telephone.  Each time they DO contact you after that, document it.  They are violating the Fair Debt Collection Act.  THEY can be fined $5,000 for EACH time they call you against your wishes.

Second thing is when you send them the certified letter, have them PROVE to YOU that you have a debt with whoever they are allegedly calling on behalf of.  By law, they HAVE to do that BEFORE they start calling you on the phone.  Document each time they contact you, or have contacted you, PRIOR to giving you WRITTEN proof of the debt.  Again, THEY are now in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Act and YOU can sue THEM.

With regard to your credit record, debts that are not taxes or student loans or stuff like that come off your credit record after 7 years.  Even if they get a judgment against you, THAT comes off your credit report after 10 years.  They MUST go to court again in 10 years and renew the judgment.  It will cost them more to sue you for they money than it will to just write off the debt and let it go-which after 7 years for this type of debt, they should already have done.

I've been getting calls from this number multiple times every day for several weeks.  My phone will ring 1-2 times, but by the time I am able to answer (I'm rarely sitting right by my phone because I'm at work or doing something with/for my kids) it stops ringing.  They never leave a message because they don't let it ring long enough to go to voicemail.  I don't know if the calls are even for me, but I don't think they are because I have no outstanding medical debt or any other debt that I know of.  I'm starting to get really aggravated, but I don't want to call back and argue with the idiots, especially since I work for one of the hospitals they collect for.

I just now received a call from this number. It immediately states that "it is not a sales call." and then they ask you if you'd like to be directed to an operator. Upon answering the man named "Joe Cross" began to ask for my mother, and when I asked what for, he refused to tell me stating (quite rudely) that it was "private business."

What the hell?

I have recieved calls daily 2 to 3 times a day, morning, noon and evening from this number for the past few months. Never leave a message, I called the number and was put on hold for over 10 minutes, I hung up.  It is very aggravating, why they are allowed to be a menice to me I don't understand.  I pay good money every month for my cell phone and I don't want them calling me.  If they have something to say leave a message.

If you live in the state of Ohio tell them you are recording the phone call according to Ohio Revised Code.  State to them not to call you again.  Advise them that if they do you will take them to court in violation of the "Fair Debt Collections Act" (FDCA) and seek the maximum amount of damages.  They may tell you to write a letter however if in Ohio you are allowed to used 1 party knowledge taping of conversations (you know your taping and thats all you need).  They should stop.  If not have an attorney sue them (probably get more from them in a lawsuit than you owe them) if everybody starts suing them maybe they'll get the message to follow the law.

This is a very very aggressive collection agency for area medical billings.  According to them, they are #1 in your life and you shouldn't pay your car or house payment before you pay them.  Dorks!!!!

My son is a collector and he explained that is the law that once you tell these collectors not to call you, they cannot call you back or they risk being sued. It was part of his training and these companies make sure that the people working for them follow strict guidlelines to protect them from possible lawsuits (there are people who actually make a good living suing these collection agencies). Most do abide, however if you get repeated calls after asking them not to, record the call and tell them you have the call recorded and if they call again, you will contact your attorney. Once they can't call or collect, they "sell" the debt and unfortunately the process could start all over again with a different agency.

Debt Collector
By law, collection agencies cannot leave personal information about a person who may owe a debt since someone else may hear the information.  That is why they do not leave a detailed message.

If you do want them to stop calling, ask them to send the account information including the name of the institution (in the case of a medical bill), the name of the person who provided the service, the date(s), the amount charged, the amount paid by insurance (including the full insurance payment information...most often the insurance has negotiated a rate for the service that is much lower than the "retail" rate), the date of the insurance payment, the insurance reference number, etc.

For an example, look at a previous bill from a medical provider then compare it to the payment information from your health insurance company.  Finally, compare the adjusted bill from the medical provider with the payment information from your insurance company.

What has happened before is a service provider to the hospital you visited, such as an x-ray service, will try to collect twice from you: first from your insurance co. and then months later from you.  Not many people pay the scam artists but enough do to make it worth while.  This happened with a father/son business who provided such a service to various hospitals in the Pittsburgh area (I believe the father may have been a radiologist, but I'm not certain).  They were eventually caught and I believe they each served some time.  This was only four to eight years ago.

Now I'm not saying that this is the case for every debt collector, but if you received service from someone or a medical agency (hospital), ask for ALL of the information regarding the debt.  Often times the debt may only be $30 to $80 to $150 and the collection agency must decide if the debt is worth going back to the original service provider and collecting the original service information (what service was provided and by whom), the original billing, the payment from the insurance co. and the final reconciliation with the insurance payment.  If they bought the debt from a service provider then the information may take weeks to process.  If the current debt collector has purchased the debt from a previous debt collector, it is next to impossible to retrieve the information.

I'm not encouraging anyone to use this tactic to skip out on a bill, but anyone who is being asked to pay a debt owed should request all of the information to be certain that YOU are paying exactly what you owe.  BTW, that must not include service fees tacked on by the debt collector.

If they leave a message and let me know who they are, they may get paid.  Not answering my phone at work, because then they will have a real hard time trying to collect when I have no job!!  So if you are the person calling my cell phone leave a message or STOP CALLING!

I answered my phone and a recorded message said don't hang up, It is important. I waited for 3 minutes and was getting ready to hang up when this rude person say yeah and I replied hello and he stumbled over my name and I said that I thought that he was rude as to how he answered the phone and that he didn't identified himself and I was uncomfortable. I then hung up. I see ads for a collection company. Is this a collection company? I am not aware of any outstanding bills for I am current.

This number called my work number and left a voicemail message. I think they have been calling for about a week now. I don't even know how they got the work number but I do know it is against the law to call someone at their place of employment, especially if they have told the caller not to do so. I am now keeping track of the calls and plan to make a lawsuit claim for harrassment.
