I was suspicious of the GE credit services call, so I called the customer service number on the back of my Mastercard:  They verified that the GE call was legitimate and confirmed that my card had been compromised.

Received a call from them after a denied transaction from my paypal credit card when I was trying to buy porno. I didn't pick up, but now I think it should be safe to say it's the GE bank.

Boy, what a crock.  Yes, it's legit, but wow.  They asked me everything but the size of my _____ to verify my identity.  As others have said, this is a bit uncomfortable to give ALL of your security information to some unknown person on the phone.  I could barely understand their english, and the operator apologized several times for reading the wrong prompt from her screen.  The best one was when she was supposed to read "thank you for calling GE credit services" she read the prompt like I was a new caller.  HAHAHA.  Let's hear it for outsourcing.

I received a call from this number. I told the gentleman that since he called me wanting info, I was not about to give him any information even though he claimed it was from fraud intervention or some such thing. He then told me to phone the back of the credit card and that's exactly what I did. They verified it as my PayPal credit card. I just wish they'd figure some alternative metheod to calling than from a 1-800 number. It's too risky these days. AND, on another note, I've never had this happen with any of my other credit cards, so...is the safety level not quite what it should be with this company? Just a thought.

This call from 800-872-8113 was for real. Don't call back that number, because it has an automated system that asks you for personal information. Call the number on the back of your credit card instead, speak directly to the reps for the company.
Turns out that someone made unauthorized purchases online today using my card information. Last time I used the card myself was weeks ago. So the account has been shut down and will receive a new card.

I called 800-872-8113 back and through automated menus was given several charges listed on my Paypal Mastercard that I did not authorize.  After declining the charges through automated menus, my call was forwarded to someone claiming to work in the fraud department who began asking for info to verify my account info.  I was not comfortable giving out this info over the phone so he recommended calling the help number on the back of my credit card directly.  I did this and found that this 800 call indeed originated from the fraud department of GE Money Bank which underwrites my Paypal card so it was a legitimate call.  Better safe than sorry and the direct help desk number was able to block the charges, cancel the card and issue a new one.

I've gotten three calls on my cell phone from the number, but it mentions that it's for someone other than me. Actually, I only answered it the first time and figured they would stop. I suppose if they call again I'll try to see if I can talk to a real person.

These calls are authentically from GE, which has a card issuing division. They are the issuing bank behind some vanity cards other brands issue, including the PayPal Plus MasterCards, so your card might not say GE even though they're the bank behind it.

If you got a call from this number, it means you made a purchase with your GE-issued card recently that wasn't consistent with your usual spending pattern. A large purchase is a common reason. It's an automated system that asks you to verify your identity (usually just the zip code for the card), reads you the list of recent transactions on your card, and asks you to verify that you placed those orders yourself.

That's all it does.
