My father-in-law had a message on his phone from West Asset Mgt regarding a collections acct for my dad's estate!  He died on April 5th of this year!!!

I called and spoke to Courtney Allen who said that she would remove my father-in-law's phone number - until she learned that only my mom had authority to send out death certificates for my dad, then she clammed up and wouldn't tell me the reason for the call or anything!  My parents do not have debt and there is contact info for them easily available...how they got my father-in-law is mind boggling!

Unless, of course, this is a scam and they are looking for someone to just pay this off without questioning or pushing back...

These people called my in-laws! A year and 1/2 after my father passed away wanting $$$! They are a sick bunch of people trying to profit off the death of loved ones! Call your lawyer if they contact you! They even went as far as to leave fake "account numbers" on their answering machine! Still trying to figure out how they got their contact info?

Legit?  They were sued by FTC last year for abusive practices.  Had to pay 40 million in fines. Lowesy of the low.

You are very lucky that West Asset Management was SO kind and understanding.  See this article. Beware, they are sleeze.

They are a collection agency that deals with credit card debt for the deceased. I did work with them on my fathers estate. I found the collectors to be kind and understanding,. If you're recieving the call and you are not the executor of that persons estate, I would assume call them and let them know so you don't recieve any calls. I truly enjoyed worked with this company, as working with other companies for my fathers debts, they werent near as pleasant or helpful with this matter.

I have received 5 of these calls.  They don't give a company name.  They want "the person who has the authority to pay the outstanding debts of ....."  They are calling about my ex-step-mother (divorced from my father since 1996).  I also have an unpublished number.  I believe that this is for an Amex bill, which they were sent copies of her death certificate and were told that there was no estate.  Debt is NOT inheritable.  I am the only one receiving these calls.  Her 3 children have not received calls.  I don't even think they know who they are calling since they never ask for me by name.  I think they are just looking for someone stupid enough to accept the debts.  I almost want to call them back just to get the calls to stop, but I think it is very sneaky that they have never once left a company name.  I had to search for the phone number just to find out what company it is.

ATTENTION: If they are calling about a deceased person's credit card debt, you are not obligated to pay anything, whether there is an estate or not! Such debts are unsecured; that is why the interest rates are so high. Tell them to stop calling you or you will contact an attorney and sue them as this lady is doing:

A Jason Shea called my non-published phone number and refused to tell me how he obtained my phone number.  He said that he was from West Asset Management and was trying to locate the executor of my late mothers estate.  After probing it was regarding an unpaid debt the belonged to my brother and my mother was not even a co-signer or part of the business.  She owned 500 shares of worthless stock.  Amazing .....   Can they be so bold?

Woman left the following voice mail which stated, "This is Mindy Pankers (sp?) and I am looking for the person who is handling the affairs of the late Karin ****.  Please call 1-800-878-1267 and refer to file #185440115." This is a collection company for an American Express account that our deceased friend Karin had. We had put in a change of address for her sister so that her mail would come to our house while she was here making cremation arrangements, and also received a collection notice today from the same company. We already advised American Express of her death, that she had no estate and no survivors other than a distant sister, and they acknowledged her death in a letter - they were very polite and expressed condolences - then sent the account to collections - really?

I was contacted by a woman named Rosemary from West Assets Management.  She was looking for the administrator of the estate for my deceased husband's ex-wife.  She said I was listed as a family member which made me somewhat suspicious.

A woman left a message, stating that she was trying to reach someone who could help her find a man with my surname, whose wife was deceased.  She asked for a call back at 800-878-1267 and provided a "file number."  It must have been live dialed, not computer dialed, because my system catches calls coming in without caller id and prompts the caller to provide one, and 878-1267 was entered.   Something weird - reverse lookup doesn't yield a company for this number.

Same; i got a call from this number this morning. A woman left a message saying she was from West Assets Management. She then claimed that a person with my surname was recently deceased and that I was to call back to sort out the estate he left behind. I don't have any family in this country, much less anybody with the first name she mentioned, which makes it pretty obvious that this is a scam.
