Yeah me too. For me I think it's 50 50 on whether it's a scam , because they said they'll send me a idiomized bill which I have no idea what that is. And they could easily fake and print it because I don't have any debt on what they're talking about . They probably got my personal info by looking up your credit report. I think it's a scam . Especially if it's happening to a lot of people. And someone said it's legit because they have a website ? Untrue. There's a lot of scammers with their own built website . Not all scammers are look unprofessional . That's why it's hard to tell sometime

have been receiving the same call and message with the same name Ms. Duncan. I have never had any service from Cox. I also agreee it is a scam!
audrey 2014-01-24 15:01:39 Unknown
I received a voicemail telling me to call this number. I called and they told me it was for a cox bill I had not paid. I went ahead and paid over the phone and a couple months later started hearing all kinds of stuff on the news about scams to "pay bills". I was worried it may have been a scam as the phone call was quite brief and struck me as a little off. I got on equidata's website and called the number listed there so I would know it was credible. They looked me up and confirmed I had made a payment two months back for cox. So the good news is - its no scam. The bad news is - you need to pay your bill so it doesn't end up on your credit!

I've been getting the calls too and since its a robot calling I wasn't going to call back thinking it was a scam too. But after reading these responses I think it is probably about COX. I paid my bills and specifically went in and tried to return my router before leaving Virginia, but the lady said no you paid for that, that's yours. I said are you sure? I don't think I did pay for this, unless it was a small monthly fee that I didn't notice. She said yes it says you paid for it.
So I think COX Internet might be the one who is doing the scamming, not equidata. I called them and no one answered so I left my reference number and my phone number and told them to call me back with what it's about. Ill update this once they call back.

received the same call. I ignored since it was unknown call. It is regarding a cable box from Cox in Oklahoma. I called them last week and paid our bill as we have moved out of state but will return to OK. in Sept. I told them I would have family member drop box off but they said I had 90 days to get in turned in. received collection letter yesterday REALLY PO'd about that. So long story long mine is about COX cable company who I'm calling now.

I just started getting these calls also, and I have had my phone number for 28 years. I certainly don't have any debt, and if it were legit, I think they would be able to better contact me, and give some information. It's a scam. Mrs. Duncan can write me a letter if she wants to collect money from me.
altruist 2012-10-23 22:05:49 Unknown
Got the same call too, this must be a fake number. If someone truly has business to attend to, they would have another way to get in touch with you. I'm not going to call them back
Chris 2012-09-11 17:54:14 Unknown
Everything everyone else has said but the msg said to call "Mrs Duncan". Sames #'s evryone else has cited. I called and a young female answered saying Mrs Duncan wasn't available but she could help. Gave her the ref # and she said I owed my former cable company before I got dish about $75. This was 4 yrs ago at least. She said it was affecting my credit score and they would remove it from credit if I paid them this "debt". I am following up on this now.

Actually Ms. Moore violated my rights by telling my mother why she was calling. In detail..I haven't even lived at home in over 25 years. Also, it's not even my debt. However, my. Mom had one of those recording devices on her phone. Now we are filing a lawsuit. But one rely!,,,

timberwuff 2011-06-06 20:58:36 Unknown
A call from equafax collections. Left a message to call them about a reference number and stated she was not a sales call on my voice message. Since I don't owe anyone anything this call makes no sense. Did not ID who she was trying to reach and no information about who she was collecting for. This reeks of SCAM!!

sap 2011-06-06 20:57:22 Unknown
My elderly mother has been getting the same phone calls. I told her not to answer the phone as I'm afraid the will make her think she owes something she doesn't. i hate scammers.
anonymous 2011-05-06 15:39:24 Unknown
The message is legit. I just called the number located on Equidata's webpage, which is different then the one from the message. There is a Mrs. Duncan and they are a legit collection agency. I hung up the the phone before the operator transferred me to Mrs. Duncan.
frustrated 2011-04-19 16:09:00 Unknown
I keep getting the same call from a Mrs. Duncan. There are so many companies committing fraud that you definitely do not want to provide them any info. They appear to have a lot of your personal info on file, but do not fall into their trap. I am also believing this is a scam!!

I am in Texas and have same message, about some Duncan calling. They keep calling bi-weekly. How to resolve the problem? Shall I report?
Gaby 2011-04-11 18:05:02 Debt Collector
I got an automated call with these numbers. I looked here and at Equidata website, along with the BBB review for them to know if it was safe to call back. It was, they told me the name associated with my number and said they would remove it from the list. They had called just 2 times in over a period of 5 weeks or so.

Same number- Mrs. Duncan. Vague about what she's trying to collect and from whom- gave some fictitious name (I know it's not someone who had my number before, because I have had this number for 13 years!). The first time she promised to take the number off their list, but called again a month later. FCC- are you doing your job?
ANN 2011-02-02 21:22:44 Unknown
WE HAVE BEEN IN BUSSINES FOR OVER 100 YEARS, AND EVERYTHING WITH DO COMPLIES WITH THE FDCPA LAW. WE ARE NOT A SCAM, WE ARE A LEGIT COLLECTION AGENCY. IF YOU RECEIVE A CALL FROM US JUST CALL US WE MIGHT HAVE THE WRONG NUMBER AND WE DONT KNOW THAT, IF YOU CALL TO LET KNOW WE WILL DELETE YOUR NUMBER AND STOP CALLING.
THANK YOU.
mike 2010-12-29 21:02:23 Debt Collector
I called the number, it appears that if anyone with a debt lists your number, or if anyone who may have HAD that number in the past is connected the debt they call the number. According to the lady on the other end of the line, they have to say the debt is in reference to "you" because they can't give out a name. That's kind of interesting because she asked for the reference number and then said the account was tied to a Joanne Something . . . So why can they give a name when you call them back? This is probably not a scam, just poor business practice by a Debt Collection company. However, being as they have a large amount of people calling them a scam, and their business practices seem to be shady at best, they will most likely not be in business much longer.
My recomendation, if you don't have any debt you can ignore it, if they keep calling, return the call DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION ABOUT YOURSELF, simply cite the ref # they gave you and instruct them to stop calling.
Best of luck all.

I have gotten 2 calls from a mrs. Duncan from this place with those phone numbers. I don't owe anyone anything and the number that I began recieving the calls at I have only had for 5 days. I live in Texas. If Chris remembers the Last name of the Alvin person I would like to know as I have gotten collection letters addressed to Alvin Fultz at my address.
Chris 2010-12-07 17:59:13 Debt Collector
I received the same message, called it, and gave the lady my reference number. It belonged to Alvin something, so it was someone who likely had my number before. My number is less than 6 months old, so it's possible it's legit, just not for me.
inok 2010-10-07 00:34:25 Unknown
I'm here in Ok = same message - Important message for you (who is the you?) not a telemarketer, )Mrs. Duncan though) equidata. Seems to me if this were legit, they would not robocall or use an important call for you. I got the same as others when I called - on hold for a long time. I finally just hung up.
A 2010-09-28 21:50:45 Unknown
just got a call from this number. it came up unkown and there was a message to call back Mrs Duncan at this number. She did not say anything about who she was with or who she was looking for. After reading all of these comments, I think this is definitely a scam!!
tired of this too 2010-09-27 20:50:46 Unknown
I just got this call again. She use to say Ms Moore, now Ms Higgins or something. Same message. I called back once, a few months ago, and was told to hold. They probably collect info on you while holding. I hung up. Will never return that call again.

Same thing for me--Mrs. Moore, Equidata, "not a telemarketer", calling after they're closed, calling from a private number, reference #, etc.. I'm not delinquent on any bills and she didn't use my name--it's s-c-a-m-m-y! I will not be calling back. I'm in Georgia and New Jersey, but travel to Virginia for biz--I'm sure we don't all have the same debt. I can't imagine how someone would benefit from this....

The above message regarding a number 800-888-2274 are from Equidata. They have a collection services division and Ms. Moore is the computer dialer that takes the most recent numbers available that are associated with a debt that has been sent to them for collections. Equidata collects for various businesses around the country including Medical and Cable just to name a few. You can also view their website Equidata.com and equidata.net to learn more about their other services that they offer.
