There are multiple FMSs. There is one based in Tulsa and one based in IL. They.are different companies. Yeah, it sounds fishy when they ask for personal info but they just can't risk exposing John Doe Jr's debt to John Doe Sr.

I just received a call from 800-889-1952, this is FMS (Financial Management Systems) a collection agency. They were looking for a Juan Ramirez, I tried to inform the guy that this was a cell phone number that I have had for over 4 years and that I did not know a Jua Ramirez, but he hung up on me. I called them back and politely asked them to reomove my number from their collection screen. The second guys I spoke to was Robert, and he advised that he would remove my number and document their system.

I got several blocked-ID automated calls over the past few days (at reasonable times) from FMS asking for the last four digits of my social security number. They refused to say what the call was about until I gave the numbers. This sounded like fraud to me, so I just hung up. Finally a person called and asked for the same information. Again I hung up, but this time he returned the call, which went to my answering machine. This time he stated that this concerned debt collection (they used to use mail first). He gave his name as Michael Carlson, his number as 866-296-7954 x 5964. I called that number, and it was someone else's answering service, which is strange for an apparently large company. I left a message asking him to call me back. I don't believe I have any debts, but it certainly could result from a false claim of debt.

Unfortunately, I don't know whether FMS is a scam or not. A Web search gave very few 'fraud' results, which is good. Their Website looks reasonable, although their FAQ page was under construction, which is suspicious for a company that has been in existence for over 15 years.

I will probably talk with them further, but I won't give them identifying information. If they keep insisting, I'll report them to the phone company, the Attorneys General, and various other agencies and see what happens. I would think it unethical to ask for identifying information without first establishing the exact nature of the business at hand.

This is a scam just to get your SS# and sell it in the black market.  Apparently they never did their research.  If it is all about student loans my loan is auto pay so there is no delay in payments.  If this debt would affect my credit score, then how was I able to get a house in this economy.  It's a scam.  I don't spend the energy I just erase them.

Left a recorded message on my voicemail (the first part of it was cut off) verified my name and left the number 800-889-1952 to call back regarding collecting a debt. The office was closed when I called back but the outgoing message for the voicemail said the persons name (I didn't write it down) and that he would return the call at -his- earliest convenience.

These idiots are part of the federal government and an example of your tax dollars at work. The contact number on the U S Treasury website for FMS (that's who is calling you from 1-800-889-1952)cannot be completed as dialed from the website. Evidently the laws against harrassing citizens and non-debtors does not apply to them

This company is calling repeatedly and is considered harrassment. Their is an option if you are not"xxxxxxx",press two. Pressed two and they keep calling. I AM NOT THE PERSON THEY ARE ALLEGEDLY CALLING FOR AND THEY WON'T LISTEN. This website leaves a little to be desired, as it has a REPORT IT in red like a link - which goes nowhere.

FMS called me on my student loans. The first guy called told me I had to pay 13000.00 down and a 1000.00 a month. I told him no way in hell i could do that.  He then told me I would pay 4000.00 a month and I laughed even harder.  He then hounded me for a few weeks so I changed my number. After two years a new guy got my new number and we worked out a resonable payment plan. It's going good so far.  The economy is in the tank so they're desperate for any money they can get. They'll work with you if you get the right person.

Yes, they're a collection agency... but they're probably calling about student loans.  At first, the guy was pretty confrontational, but he calmed down pretty quickly when I proved to be a reasonable person.

I'd never made a payment on my student loans in over ten years.  They've got me set up on a plan to rehabilitate them - bring them current again - after ... uh, I think it's paying 10% (in three payments) and then making 6 monthly payments.

Personally, I'm a big fan of them.  They're helping me get a -huge- black mark off my credit.  I've got no problems with them whatsoever.

This number has been showing up at 8:05 am and they never leave a message. I thought 9:00am was the earliest telemarketers can start harrassing people. I think if they are a professional organizatiom, they could atleast identify temselves by leaving a message--Rude!!

Yah it's 7 years. Although it doesn't come off your credit report in total, it just goes to the back of it and they leave you alone. These people check out owed loans on the internet and try to collect on them and put the funds in their pocket, since the Company that the original debt is owed to isn't looking for it anymore. Don;t answer the phone when they call and by all means don't give them any personnel information. Eventually they will leave you alone when they realize that your not going to fall for their as backwards collection tactics. Good luck!!!!

this company...financial managment services or systems IS NOT a government agency, they have carefully constructed their name and web site to appear offical but look closely..they list memberships in the BBB and when investigated they ARE NOT a member.  dont be fooled this is a bottom feeding debt collector that randomly attempts collections on any paper they buy up, legitimate or other wise

I got into work this morning and found a computerized message on my voice mail.  It sounded like they said my husbands name and it left the number 800-889-1952.  I have tried on several occasions, over the last 3 hours, to return the call.  Every time I dial the number, it tells you to enter an extension or hold for a "recovery specialist."  When I hold the line it hangs up on me.  Who are these yo-yos anyway and what kind of business are they running?  It is kinda hard to collect a debt if your phone system disconnects the person calling back.

I tried the extensions listed in the posts on this site, but it tells me they are invalid.  I did successfully push enough random numbers to get the voice mail of a "John Phillips."  I left a message to call back.  Another time it transferred me and a man answered. I asked who I was speaking with, the man got rude and basically told me that I had reached a private number.  So, I don't know what is going on, but I don't appreciate it!!!

I received phone calls from this number. I called their prospect customer number 1-800-605-9817 I found online and asked why I received these phone calls. They asked me if I was R*** N*** , which I am not. This person probably owned my number before I got it because I receive more calls for him. I told them that and they are going to remove my number from the system.

If you receive calls from them and you do have no business with them, this might be the case. If you do have business with them, try to get rid of your debt...

this is FMS, a collection company. That uses the same name as a federal agency (how that's not illegal, considering the FDCPA says they cannot misrepresent themselves or imply they are a government agency, is beyond me.)
by the time they have the debt it is beyond action. just ignore them.

Yes they are a branch of the Dept of Treasury!  www.fms.treas.gov I got calls from then demanding payment. I looked them up and well yes they are not a ho-hum nobody, they are the US Gov organization and yes they can collect the debt and yes they will. However if you go to the Dept of Educaton and look you will find a provision allowing certain people who have student loans for filing bankruptcy on them. Bankruptcy lawyers will say you can't but if you meet the guidelines you can file. The current condition of our economy is rapidly meeting the requirements for many Americans. See if you meet the requirements. Good luck.

THE FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT SERVICE, a bureau of the United States Department of the Treasury, provides central payment services to Federal Program Agencies, operates the federal government's collections and deposit systems, provides government-wide accounting and reporting services, and manages the collection of delinquent debt owed to the government. FMS also supports federal agencies' financial management improvement efforts in the areas of education, consulting, and accounting operations.

Loan scavenger. They take old and invalid debt. FMS will claim to be the federal government unless you ask them a direct question.

My loan was insured for disability. I became disabled. The debt was invalidated by the Department of education. Catch being if I am cured of paralysis the debt could become valid.

Loan scavengers try to scare or harass you. Ignore them until they break the law.
The Department of education is responsible for this they gave your SSN to them. Never admit or deny a SSN over the phone. SSN is not to be used to identify you.
