We didn't get a call, we got a letter in the mail stating there is a block on our card and to call Card Fraud Division immediately. Called the number (800-889-5280) and the first thing the woman asked for was either our full card number or SSN. There is no way I am giving someone that information. The letter was vague and didn't state what company the card was with or anything to give us a clue. Called our credit union and credit card company and both stated there are no blocks on our cards. Therefore, I think this is most certainly a scam.

Jeez, I too was suspicious, but my bank said legit and their was a block on my card.  I called the number, they just want the reference number, your name and last 4 of ss.  They read back a bunch of charges, in my case all were legit so they removed the block on my card.

Received random message from 800-889-5280 making me aware of hold being put on debit card, due to possible fraudulent activity. I instead called my bank they verified, and transferred me to the same number left on my voice mail. Completely legit!

I got a letter from the Card Fraud Department address is Symmes Township, OH. Ph. 1800-889-5280
They seem to be legit. The department had knowledge of the status of my account and the fact my bank had cleared the a blocked card. They are the security end of my bank.

They asked for my cardnumber or a reference number from the letter. Of course I gave the ref number. The operator asked for verification info: Last 4 digits of ss# and last 4 digits of the card.

If you ever feel uncomfortable that is absolutely the best option.  Anything a 3rd party would try to contact you about,  the bank will be able to pull up or will have the 3rd party's number in their internal system.  The reason they had you verify that extra information is so that they could send a closed fraud marked case sheet to the bank.  Many banks require this case sheet to return the fraudulently spent funds to your account.

They used to be FTPS but split off from 5/3 and became their own separate company. They are now known as Vantiv,  though 5/3 bank still owns about 40% of Vantiv.

THIS IS A SCAM, and a very good one. First they called, but after I questioned WHAT bank they were with they never answered. They even gave me three fake transactions someone supposedly had tried to charge to my card. What tipped me off, is my debit card HAD been compromised about a week before. So I knew no one could be trying to charge anything on it. However, somehow these scammers know that. Very scary indeed. I got a letter about 5 days after the call and it told me to call them immediately bla bla bla. I am reporting this to the NC Attorney General. Its already been reported to my bank, and I also called one of my local Reps on this. This is an extremely dangerous scam and they need to be caught and prosecuted ASAP.

Maybe you should do some investigating yourself as well as your bank. This company IS VERY VALID AND REAL and I am so thankful to them because they stopped over $4,000.00 in potential fraudulent charges on my card. Here are some details that maybe you should've gotten before you posted false information and made yourself look like a fool. The company name is Vantiv (google it), they are located in Cincinnati, OH.

I just received a voicemail from 513-900-4000, where the lady gave me a number to call back (1-800-889-5820) plus a reference number.

After Googling the number and getting mixed results as to whether this was legit, I called my bank's fraud protection number. The representative plugged the phone number into her database and told me that THIS IS A FRAUD and to NOT call them back.

So there you have it. Don't even call back with the reference number. It is so simple to just contact your bank directly and get the truth, why do anything else?

Yes, this is legit. My husband got a call last night and we immediately thought it was a scam. I was going to go to the bank in person and ask about it, but our local bank called my husband this morning and said someone had tried to use his card in Las Vegas for a $43 grocery purchase. It was tagged as suspicious activity so he was called and his card canceled.

I'm going to pick up his new card this afternoon.

If you're unsure about ANY call regarding your debit card, always call your local bank branch or go down in person. You should never, ever give out your account number or any other personal info over the phone. A legitimate company already has all the info they need.

You know that people that steal your card number do small test transactions prior to making the large purchases later on. They will usually make an online charge for less that $1.00 at some made up merchant to make sure the card is still active and that all the info is accurate prior to using it. These people that steal card #s are smart and they can set up terminals in a house to run stolen card numbers. They dont want to sell a counterfeit card that is already expired or closed. Typically those small 'test' transactions do not post to accounts so if you do not check your account on a daily basis you will never know it was there until it is too late.

I used to work for this company back in 2007-2011 and it is legit. They are a 3rd party debit/credit card fraud monitoring service for various banks in the US. They used to be called Fifth Third Processing Solutions (part of 5/3 Bank in Cincinnati, OH) but they were sold to Vantiv in early 2011. They have computer systems to track real time debit & credit card activity and if something unusual shows up from a different states or wierd internet activity (usualy under $1 to made up merchants) they will block the card and call you with the 800# and a reference # (make sure you have the ref # or they cannot help you). They will never ask for SSN or other personal info that is not public. They will ask DOB or address to verify they are speaking w/ the account holder though. If you are not comfortable with it then contact your bank or you will not be able to use your card.

This is a real service.    They left a message and I called them back.   It is a legit service because before I called them back I checked with a person at my local branch of 5/3 Bank and they said to call them back IMMEDIATELY.  I did and there was two charges on my account made in the last several hours.   Within minutes, the fraud activity company had shut my account down and connected me to my bank to order a new card and to start a dispute form through them.  If not, who knows when I would have caught this!    Do not ignore this number...if in doubt, let your answering machine answer it and call your local branch and then call them back.

After looking through the comments it seemed to be a scam to me but rather then call the number back I logged into my bank account to make sure there was nothing strange going on and guess what ... NOTHING !  The people commenting here are just trying to bait people to call in and give their account numbers.  Don't fall for it!  Be smarter then that!  At the very least, if you really think there is some fraud thing going on with your account then either look online yourself at your account or call or go in directly to your local branch.  Don't take these strangers' (or my) word for it, but just be smart and don't give out your account numbers!

Legit, despite a very suspicious sounding voicemail.

Always call your bank(s) directly on their published customer support number and ask if it is genuine. Make a complaint about the message if you felt it was suspicious.

Legit- I called and spoke to a very nice woman who confirmed my case reference #, name, and last 4 of ss. She explained 3 charges attempted on my card, only one of which was approved. The card was immediately blocked after the initial approved charge. Once I confirmed fraudulent charges, she put a permanent block on my card, recommended I call my bank (which she knew by name) to protest the approved charge, and offered to reissue my card. I explained that I'd take of a new card at the bank myself, which she understood. Glad they're watching.

Well, I got a message too saying that there was a transaction made today in another city. We called back and they did identify themselves a a fraud protection agency, but because we saw the movie Identity Theif, we got nervous and hung up. After checking our bank statement there was a fraud charge and called the bank directly. Is these situations, always try to call your bank first and don't ever give anyone your personal info or bank info over the phone even if you know them.

I received a message from this company and I was skeptical no doubt.  I researched the number online and got mixed reporting, but with the majority showing as valid.   Since my bank was already closed for the day, I went to an ATM machine and received a printout showing there was a problem with my card.  I then called this number, the customer service rep was very polite and told me the 2 transactions around the world that had been transmitted on my card earlier in the day.  She placed a permanent block on my card and instructed me to contact my bank for a replacement card.

Got this fishy message on my answering machine referring me to call regarding fraudulent activity.

Called my actual bank first and verified they do not use any 3rd party for fraud detection, no flags on my accounts and all transaction were true.

I called back and used the reference number given and they had my name, easy enough the phone is listed.  I asked which bank, Amex, Chase or BoA.  They said BoA.   Funny thing is I don't bank at any of them.  Had this guy stammering and scared about the FBI by the time the call was done.

They are fishing or phishing for your data. They use the numbers 800 889 5280 and 866 889 5280 and show up on the caller ID as 513-900-4000 as the company VANTIV.

I called to VANTIV and spoke to one of the executives and was told that there is a group out there using their company name and caller ID spoofing for the purposes of identity theft.  He said do not give your information out and your financial institution has all the data at hand about your account.

Definitely legitimate.  They called me, asked for my full name as it appears on the card and the last four of my social security number.  I provided no other information.  They found suspicious activitiy and listed exactly what I purchased, what time, and when.  The details they provided were clearly legitimate, including the purchase I made only a few hours ago.  They were nice and thorough.

Don't ignore this call.  Someone might not be getting paid right now if you ignore it.

This is legit. But always call or go to your bank first, rather than returning the fraud detection call. But do not ignore it.
I got the fraud call at 3:45. Went to the cradit union at 4:00. The charges, at 3:30, were from another state 1500 miles from here. Had a new card and the charges reversed by 4:15!!

This is a legitimate fraud detection company that has been outsourced from your bank. Please do not disregard their call. They called me today and informed me of a transaction that took place in Texas and I live in California. It occurred in an Apple store for $485.84. I forgot what the company name was but I have received calls from them before for the same reason. They provide you with all the info and do not ask to verify yours. They see all the transactions and just want to confirm with you. Then, they send the information to your bank via email.

We got a call from this fraud service and immediately contacted the bank.  The number is legit for 5/3 bank as the teller told me to call the exact same number the message told me to contact.  These people boosted us for $150.  Definitely call your bank first to find out if this is legit and if you can check your charges online, do so.

If the number is legit, you will be able to access them through your bank's customer service line.  I got a message and I called my bank.  My bank patched me through to them and it turns out someone tried to charge my card $800 to an apple store overseas.
