I got a pre-recorded call telling me I won some prize and it told me to call an 800 number.  So, I decided to humor them.  I blocked my number out, called, but they still saw it, amazingly enough.  The guy answered the phone and said I won some vacation from some online entry I filled out 6-12 months ago, then I said I never give out my home number online for any reason, and questioned how they got my number.  Then he shoots me over to some manager, who by the way was very friendly and conversational, but not forthcoming about why they called.  Every time I asked he kept giving me the same responses; that they had gotten my number from some contest I did online 6-12 months ago, I told him I was pretty religious about never giving out my home number, then he mentioned it also could be various major department stores like Sears, Walmart, K-Mart, etc.  Told him I haven?t been to any of those, either.  So again I asked why they called, and what these prizes were, and how much it would wind up costing me?even stating, "nothing from calls like these ever comes without some kind of cost attached to it."  Still wouldn?t answer and kept giving me the same response about how they got my number, I just laughed and said, ?Yeah you?ve already told me this.  I am asking what prize I supposedly won, and how much it?s going to cost me.?  In the end he said it ?wasn?t their protocol? to let me know what prize it was, that I had to confirm all my information with them first, then they?d tell me.  I then said, ?Okay, so it sounds to me like you?re data mining.  You want me to give you all my personal information first, then likely you sell that to some other company, and on and on it goes until I wind up having to change my phone number from so many telemarketer calls.  You expect me to trust that this prize of yours has no cost attached to it, but you won?t tell me what the prize is or if I?m right about it costing me money in the end.?  Then I told him to put me on their do not call list, and he tried to convince me otherwise, to no avail.  Requested it a second time and then he said okay, then that was the end of the call.

I then called back one more time, questioned the guy who answered, and he promptly hung up on me.

Got the same message about the prize of a Dodge Durango from Amber Watts. I keep getting different calls like this from bogus companies with prizes being offered and I'm on the Do Not Call List. What a waste. When I first started getting these calls, I actually thought I had won. Then I started to goggle these phone numbers and it always shows up as a scam.  Thanks to all for responding and hopefully helping the next victim.

Lil' Miss Amber Watts just left a voice mail for me stating that, I too, had won a Durango.  Geez.....they sure have a LOT of 'em to give away don't they?  She also said the same thing that y'all have mentioned about how "it would be in  my best interest to call them back and claim my prize".  In my best interest?  Wow!!!  Bi*** doesn't even know me, but she knows what's best for me!  Amazing!!!  Guess I better get back to her immediately!!!  NOT!!!!!

Said I won a Dodge Durango. I register for prizes at conferences and such so it sounded legit. Sad world where you can't get excited about a winning phone call. :(

Message said I was a winner in the "Cool Car, Cold Cash" contest. Looked that up, and there is a legitimate annual contest with that name conducted by Easter Seals of Indiana. I never entered and do not live near Indiana, so I doubt this it for real. A web search found links to a site that recruits people for online surveys.

I won a dream vacation! I had to call to claim my prize. I called to tell them to take my number off their list because I was on the Federal DNCL. (pretty much useless).

She said I received the call because I filled out a form (this was a complete lie to try to remove liability for violating the law). I asked for proof regarding the form and she said they will take me off the hit list!. They are aware of the law and the list, they just don't pay any attention to it.

Lets see how this works.

Received a call 4/9/13@ 11:28 AM, saying I received a dream vacation and I needed to call back to redeem my prize.

I called back and asked they remove my number from the list, because I was on the Federal DNCL.

She said I filled out a form (which was total bull), because they don't violate the law. I asked for proof and she said my number would be removed. Let's see how affective that is.

They called my office phone - which I know would really not be on any lists for a real prize winning.  Seems like a TOTAL SCAM to me.

They called me today and told me I was 1 of few to be a guaranteed top prize winner of a dream vacation and all I have to do is sit through a 60 minute presentation about the multi-million dollar company. They said they are not trying to sell anything and we don't have to pay anything just pay for tax which can be anywhere from $30.00 to $90.00. You go to the presentation so next time you or a family member wanna travel they will use this company. And then after the presentation you pick a scratch card and can win 1 of 3 all expense paid vacation. Sounds too good to be true....

I just got a call that I was a top winner of a DREAM vacation.  Funny but I did enter a contest with the Travel Channel called DREAM VACATION SWEEPSTAKES and the winner was to be notified yesterday.  So I was hoping... and it was some strange scam.

I got the same... seems like they would like you to think they are giving away a lot of Dodge Durangos.  Anyway, I thought "well, what the heck, I could use a pickup truck," so I called.  Got Mr. Michael Parker who took my name and phone number, tried to get more information, enough so that he could offer me a seating at a "Promotion in our area, from Premier Discounts, ... a couples giveaway".
From what I can gather, it's a high-pressure sales event, probably for a time-share or discount club, where you sit for a few hours in an evening through their presentation and then are offered  opportunity to pick a number out of a hat.  If you get the "#1", you get the Durango, #2 and you get a gift certificate for $25,000, and #3 another prize, worth not less than a Toshiba laptop computer, some $300 or $400 worth.
Through data mining, they seem to have compiled a list of people to call to lure into their sales scheme.  I think we will let this one pass.
