If you call 8009200506 you will get option to enter your phone number which will apparently remove you from the calling list within 72 hours.  I did that, and over next day received twice the number of calls.  I never answer (caller id display).  I sent Vancity a message along with links to several of these who is calling forums where some people are seriously pissed off.  Anyways, after a day the calls ceased and I got the following message from Vancity.  They indicate they updated my personal profile but i did that myself previously and they said it would take up to 90 days to have any marketing cease (looks like they called their telemarketer and told them stop calling me after i sent them a message):

"Thank you for your email. We would like to assure you that the call you received was indeed legitimate. In fact, we engaged one of our trusted vendors, Sykes Enterprise, to contact some of our enviro VISA cardholders and provide them information on a couple of promotions that we are currently holding.

Do trust that Vancity would never sell your personal information to a third party. Like in this case, we have shared limited information about you with our supplier because we felt you may benefit from this information.

Given your concerns, we’ve taken the liberty to update your personal profile to ensure you no longer receive similar calls from us in the future.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us."

TO ANYONE WHO GETS ANNOYING TELEMARKETER CALLS:

I have found a way to stop these a**holes from calling.  When they call I pick up the phone and VERY quietly, almost indecipherable, say "hello?" then no matter what, I just say "hello??? HELLO???"  but very very VERY quietly. So they wouldn't be able to make out what I'm saying, and probably either turn the volume up on their phone or put their ear closer and listen intently.

I then scream as loud as I can into the phone, hopefully crushing their eardrums.

I used this method on the above telemarketer (800-920-0506) who called me three times a day, every day for about two months. I implemented my system and it worked after 3 tries.  I no longer receive *any* calls from this number.

This method not only works, but is VERY personally satisfying.  Try it!

They call two times in a row...two times in 1 minutes if you have an answering machine and do not leave a message!!

I received a voice activated questionaire from this number.  The recorded voice told me they needed me
to answer three questions .  The first question asked " if this is ( my wife's first and last name) say one.

I hung up and the call came back in two minutes.  I picked up the phone and remained silent for five seconds
and then hung up again.  The recorded questionaire never began I assume because I remained silent.

I have no idea what the subject matter was on this but if Sykes is involved, I don't want anything to do with
it.  They used to be a large employer before moving their call centers to India or some offshore location.
I'll bet you enjoy having your personal financial information questions being asked by or looked at by some
call center in the middle of who knows what country, city, neighborhood, building or shanty.

I called the number back to see if I could option out and the number answered with an automated add

sykes 18009200506 has been calling me for 3 weeks or so

I to find out who they are how to talk to them and charge them with harrassment.
I have a cell phone I want to know how they got my number

They keep calling and calling and calling and calling to the point where I want to hunt them down and shoot them! If I HAVE NOT answered atleast ONCE in the past 6 MONTHS than I think that means I'm NEVER GOING TO PICK UP.

They always call at the same time twice a day.
One around 11:30 am-12:00pm
Second around 5:50pm-6:00pm

OMG! I'm so sick of this number calling me, and I see I'm not the only one- over a year later!!! I just called and had my number put on a do not call list... we'll see how well it worked. I don't think it's vancity visa, but a marketing company hired by said company.

When I called back the automated message said they were Sykes and they do telemarketing for etc etc... There was an option to put my number on their do not call list. I was assuming it was Vancity because I get calls from them about my Visa, so i wasn't too worried, but they always called me when I was sleeping (ringer turned off) or while on my way to work (phone sitting on the bedside table). Today they called me while I was awake so I became curious.

Thanks for the info.  I have been receiving calls from this number and went onto the website to opt out of these calls.

I received three calls this week. Each time around dinner, and each time I told them to please not call back. It is Sykes Enterprises, http://www.sykes.com/. They have call centres located all over the Maritimes. I have now lodged a formal complaint with the Federal Do Not Call centre. The only information I received about what they are trying to sell is that they are calling on behalf of Vancity. So fed up with them calling numerous times a day am a vancity bank member but they have never really contacted me about anything in the past. I dont blame Vancity I blame the ICT Group. The people are DUMB that work there. If you work and read this when someone answers and you ask for them if there is no answer its called a VOICEMAIL!. Am at work while these calls occur and I dont answer.

Why should WE - the targets of the harassment - be the ones required to do the due diligence to get these criminals off our backs?! Give me a break you Vancity schlub!! I've been hunted, stalked and harassed by Vancity Visa's telemarketing goons for over a month and for over 40 calls. And since I haven't answered the calls - instead of backing off, they've increased the harassment to 3 times a day and on weekends!! Typical of all bullies, abusers and stalkers - they get more agressive the longer they can't get at you. Sick Sick Sick - banks,telemarketers, corporations - you operate like psychopaths - nay, you are psychopaths!

I have 30 calls in the last 14 days... they call twice a day every day. I answered twice and both times after asking my name and me replying not to call (politely) they hung up.

30 calls later - VANCITY ENGAGES IN CRIMINAL HARASSMENT!

I responded the exact same way and the harassment continues - now at 20 plus calls and counting. I LOATH VANCITY! Thanks to the pro-active people who took action against these harassers and posted the steps WE have to take to STOP the VANCITY VISA OFFENDERS. I HATE VANCITY VISA!

Just called Vanc City. The # originates from a company called ICT Group - a telemarketing company. I called the same 1-800- 920-0506 from a land line (would not work from my cell #) and there is an option to take your # off their call list. Takes 72 hours to take effect. Hope this helps everyone!

Yea apparently some people in the states are getting harassed from the exact same number except they claim to be a charity of some sort... I think this is kind of messed up.

Thanks for posting that link!... I have been receiving a minimum of two calls each day from that number. Talk about IRRITATING!... I've been "ignoring" it for almost 2 weeks now...
Yesterday I figured I'd answer and give whoever it is a piece of my mind, but (of course) the call was dropped. I tried again today, and (you guessed it) no one to unload on. Anyway, I really hope that privacy thing works!!... Thanks for the post! :)
