Respect for telemarketers?  It was not very respectful for you to call my ill and aged mother in her nursing home and harass her until she said yes to get rid of you.  If you want respect, get a respectable job.

ThatGirl,

Likewise, you need to realize that telemarketers are a form of intruder entering uninvited into people's homes.  We do not have phone service so that perfect strangers can invade our lives, often at the worst possible moment, frequently with some less than honest scheme to separate us from our money.

You really can't fully appreciate what a low form of life a telemarketer is until they call when a family member has just died in bed of a stroke, and tries to push you while you stand there on the phone, amidst police and ambulance workers - yes, this happened in my home.

Or, less dramatically, but no less egregious, when a parent is in the midst of tending a sick child, or bathing their infant.  When someone has worked all night, and is trying to get a little sleep before they have to do it again.  Or in the middle of cooking, doing a project for work, helping children with homework, or any of the million things that we do in our private places with our private time.

When I go out into the world, into malls, stores, etc., I don't get angry that someone approaches me with something to sell.  Even if it is some sort of worthless "made for" miracle product.  (Although I may have a little fun at their expense.)

But we do not pay for phone service in order for the world to come into our homes uninvited.  We have phones so we can communicate with loved ones.  Friends, family, neighbors, businesses WE choose to have dealings with, are all reasons for our phones.  But telephonic home invaders, i.e. telemarketers and other scammers, are NOT on that list.  If my phone had a "taser" button I would use it when they call.

And please, do not tell me that they are just trying to make a living.  Bank robbers, petty thieves, shoplifters, and convenience store hold-up men are all "just trying to make a living" and showing about the same level of consideration for their fellow man as telemarketers do.

If you find yourself with "no other option" you are doing something wrong in life.  You have made, and are probably continuing to make, bad choices.  You are doing yourself a terrible disservice if you are willing to settle for your present lot in life.  Whatever needs to be done, find a way to do it.  Get a skill, stop with the drugs/alcohol, move to an area with better opportunity, clean up and dress a little better when you are out in the world - whatever the things are that are limiting you in life.  It IS hard, but it is also within your reach.  It is all about what you tell yourself.

You Seriously Need To Realize That The Other Person Behind That Phone, IS A Human Being As Well.
And Yes, They Are Telemarketer's, and They Annoy You, But The Only Reason They Keep Asking For The Money Is To Get To Their Lowest Rebutal Of $15, After That, Its Done. IT'S THEIR JOB.
It Is Absolutely Unnecessary To Call Them Names, Scream At Them, And Threaten To Report Them?
For Doing What They Legally HAVE To Do. Just Imagine, These People Prolly Have It Worse Than You. They Have To Sit Back And Take Your S*** Because They're Only Makin $7 An Hour Trying To Feed THEIR Family Of 5.
All I'm Sayin, Is People Need To Have Some Damn Respect For Telemarketer's.
If You Don't Wanna Hear What Their Collecting Money For, Or If You Don't Wanna Give It.
HANG UP.

I just received the same type call being discussed from the Breast Cancer Relief Foundation...too which I pledged $20.  I have never made a monitary  pledge to any organization over the phone...I definitely succombed to a very proficient employee in the field of solication...I will not be fulfilling my pledge.  I immediately called the number back twice and received the same message..."You have reached a number that is no longer in service or has been disconnected"  The number my call was placed from is 865-230-8922.

If you are going to post here and take a position supporting the BCRF, at least type something that is easy to understand and actually supports the work the charity does.  Please don't just say "I work for them and they do good work."  I'm not convinced.  I was  called by this "organization" 3/21/12 at 240 PM PDT.

The only reason I answered the phone when they called was because it said private caller. I thought it might be my mom. I thought organizations like this couldn't use private caller as an ID. They asked for $75 and I said I was on a tight budget and somehow talked me into $20. I will not be sending them anything after reading all these posts.

I made a pledge over the phone, only because I wanted more information on you.  I am not the type of person to be rude to hang up.  When a person says "no", except it and move on.  But you had to keep asking even though I explained I'm on a budget with a family of five.  I kept repeatedly asking..."send me the information."  As I explained, I will give but want information sent to me first.  Was told "no".  "We don't send information out unless a pledge is made."  And then you put three different people on the phone to get the pledge.  Hard-core I gotta say...  Well, after looking into your non-profit, I feel that I was mislead and for someone on a fixed income I will not be sending in my $15.00 because I feel I was mislead.  The next time I get a letter, it will say return to sender, the next time I get a call, I will ask to be put on the do not call list, if I get another call, I will call my State General Attorney's Office.

Yes I work for The breast Cancer relief foundation, woman to woman breast cancer and some of the others. The Fact of the matter is these organizations are real charities, but here's the catch. The employ companies like ours to call you after you to either solicit donations or even after you have agreed to donate, but we have not received your donation. These are non-profit organizations which means that yes, we do get a portion of the donation money to pay the employees and other company expenses. Non-profit people. Here's the thing though if you do not want to give a your donation to us because the organization we are representing are only get a certain percent of the proceeds, and the rest go to us to pay our company fees, don't get mad at us or call us fake. We are hired by these organizations and they do good work. Now if you want to organization to get the majority of the money then I suggest next time one of us calls you, then you need to ask for the organization who we are calling for i.e. Breast Cancer Relief Foundation and get their website and donate to them online. That away your donation goes directly to them and you cut out the middle man. I could get in trouble sharing this info because the call center I work for does not want this, they want the donations going through them. But since you can be aynomous on here, doesn't matter. But remember this before you slam us and report us and this, that and the other, we are employed by these organizations. Also all charities, and non-profits use whatever funds they are donated for what area they feel best needs it. Basically it is like when a friend ask you for money. If you give it to them, it doesn't matter what they do with it once you have given it. They may tell you they need it to keep their lights on and may use it to fix their car. Point is you can't or don't control what is done with. That is why you give in good faith and if they are doing wrong with the donations, then eventually I hope they are caught and exposed myself.

I get several fund raising phone calls stemming from this number. Incluing The Breast CAncer Relief Fund, Police Association, Firefighters Relief Fund etc etc.....When I called this number they answer "Fundraising Center" and just say that she will take my number off to get removed from their system.
I was getting atleast 10 calls per week. Seems very skechy to me!

Call 800-921-2022 and tell them to remove you from their list.  They ARE a scam.  The police foundation they supposedly represent DOES NOT EXIST.  When I mentioned this to her, the woman who answered VERY QUICKLY assured me that she would remove my number.  If they do not, they will have the attourney general after them.

Ill have you know that i fundraise for the company at the address in Phoenix and even though 10 % of the gross goes to the foundation, do you have any idea how much money is raised to go to the foundation? Hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars. Personally, i take pride in being a part of that and you should, too.

Well, I just got a call with the ID "Private caller."  I would NOT donate to this group.
The pitch was for the Breast Cancer Relief Foundation, then she abrieviated it BCRF to make it sound more legit with an Acronym.  What a load of junk.  She readily admitted that only 10% of the funds raised go to those "equally divided between hospitals, doctors, yada, yada" so I told her why I volunteer as Crew and my wife and mother who are Breast Cancer Survivors (7 years and counting) where a majority of the money raised goes to the end cause.  You hear and research a lot of varied numbers in the percentages that go to the end cause for all of these charities, but 10% or 25% or even 40% like the Susan Koman walk foundation are just too little for the need and too much to executive pay, fund-raising, for-profit companies, etc.  It appears that anyone can create a "non-profit" or "not-for-profit" and then hire a for-profit company to raise money for you, then you can pay yourself more than a hundred thousand dollars a year in salary and yet the company pays no taxes.  It is a scam.

Most of them are.  Always, always ASK "what percentage of what you raise goes to the cause of cancer research or prevention" and see what they say.

I have been in the sales industry for over 25 years, and are astonished at the post of the young woman who works there: HOW CAN ANYBODY BE "forced to pull in $40-60 an hour each in donations otherwise we will be fired" ALONG WITH "We are just not allowed to say "I'm sorry to hear that" or anything like that" AND "When you say "no". we still have to keep pitching for the donation and use our "rebuttals".  If we don't, we get yelled at and written up" SOUNDS ABSURD, THEN "When you try to cut us off, we have to cut you off or the same consequence as above" ... I would like to know who they hell runs a business like this? It sounds laughable that there is a company treating their employees this way. I assume the owners are very uneducated, and have no prior experience in sales or business of any kind. YOU DON'T TREAT EMPLOYEES LIKE THIS, GO BACK TO BUSINESS SCHOOL, LEARN HOW TO DO IT PROPERLY. If they're not meeting quotas then YOU (managers/supers/owners) are not doing YOUR job correctly!

I work for the company that solicits the donations to you guys...and I am just here to tell you some of the inside scoop because, personally, I agree 100% with you all:  We are forced to pull in $40-60 an hour each in donations otherwise we will be fired.  When you tell us that you have recently lost someone to breast cancer or you are fighting it yourself, WE DO CARE. WE REALLY DO! We are just not allowed to say "I'm sorry to hear that" or anything like that.  I think it is sick.  However, I am a 21 year old in a town where I know no one and this job is what is keeping a roof over my head.  When you say "no". we still have to keep pitching for the donation and use our "rebuttals".  If we don't, we get yelled at and written up.  When you try to cut us off, we have to cut you off or the same consequence as above.  It is very SCARY knowing that I could lose my job tomorrow if I don't get a donation for the company.  When you tell us you have no money, I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN! I AM IN YOUR BOAT! I would hang up on me, too!

But I just wanted to tell you guys that we are not trying to be annoying, we are just doing what we are told.  Everyone that works there except for the managers is kind of all in my situation with being low-income and just trying to pay their bills.  I can speak on behalf of them and say that I know that they would all tell you the same thing.

I got a call from them last week and same story as everyone else! To be fair the lady on the phone was lovely but I told her I donate to charities already.  she said that as a female perhaps I would consider even a small contribution and would I pledge to give even $15.  She then put a supervisor on the phone to verify my contact information.  I hate that they make you feel guilty about saying no so i said fine send out the envelope.  I studied it like everyone else and then wondered "is this genuine, i hate scams" so came across this website.  I think they think that by making people "pledge" we feel legally bound to make the payment but having read all the mails here, i'm sending nothing other than the envelope back with a note stating that unfortunately I'm uncomfortable that even $15 of a pledge doesnt go to the right causes and I'll be sticking to the charities that I honestly believe put the money where it should go.  I'm also curious how they get to call us?  I'm on the DO NOT CALL register so how are these companies getting around this rule?  Only 2 months ago i got a call offering me a free mamogram test or something and yet when i looked that org. up i discovered yes you get it free but they bombard you with 2 hour videos to try make you lock in with unnecessary insurance and have been known to give false results to make people pay more for more checks.  I dispise these organizations stealing from people with a good heart in the right place who are trying to do good.  They should be wiped out!

I Just got a call about 10 minutes ago, from 202 670 8387 (the name came up unknown), they claimed to be a Vietnam Veterans foundation looking for donations and something to do with tax relief. I informed the man on the phone that i was currently unemployed, but if there were any change in my situation, is there a website i could visit in the future? Well there is no website apparently, but he gave me the above phone number- 800-921-2022. He then told me that he would say a prayer in hopes that i would find employment and told me to have a good day,  As with any other call that seems off i checked online by typing the number into google, and wouldnt you know it this site popped right up. Whether its a scam or not, i dont know, but i dont trust it. I'd rather donate to a verified veterans foundation. Only good thing i can say though is the man on the phone was polite and spoke very kindly.
