This is the "Special Olympics" scam. Reporting to FCC.

caller selling burial insurance

Keep receiving calls from this number, they leave no message. When the answer machine answers the phone sounds as if a call was made from my house. A busy tone is left for the message or a "Please hang up and try again". If this is the Special Olympics its a crappy way to do business. I wouldn't give them a dime doing business like this.

Just got a missed call from this number.
Maury 2011-03-05 17:48:22 Unknown
Is this actually The Special Olympics, or is it an organization or company collecting on "behalf" of The Special Olympics? That's important. If you ask the person or organization if they are who they say they are and what percentage of the money collected actually goes to the charity, by law they have to answer that question. What I found one time when someone called me supposedly on behalf of Sheriff's Boys Ranch was that the charity only received 18% of the funds collected, while the company collecting the funds kept a whopping 82%! The portion kept should NEVER be more than 10%.

I called the number and the recording said that it is for the special olympics and they will try to call back another time. they did leave another number to reach their customer service. I did and asked that they take my numbers off their list which they (said) they did. the number to call them back is 866-544-4880

Called today... air horn greeted them....

This may or may not be The Special Olympics calling. Always ask if you are considering donating money what percentage of the funds collected goes to The Special Olympics (or what ever charity they are calling for). If the amount the charity receives is less than 90%, hang up. BY FEDERAL LAW they have to answer this question. Ten percent administrative costs is high, but not totally out of line - I prefer 3% - 5% administrative cost or to donate directly and locally.
The last "Charity" that called me for a donation had to tell me that only 18% of what they collected went to the supposed Law Enforcement Charity they were allegedly collecting for - which means they kept a whopping 82% of the funds collected. Pretty sweet and profitable scam.
And being labeled "Non-profit", they do not come under the "Do Not Call" rules, such as they are enforced (or not) by the FTC and FCC.

This number calls day and night for the last 2 weeks. I do not answer 800 numbers but maybe I will after reading here. I will try and get a live person to remove me. I am on the DO NOT CALL list and it does no good.

I just sent in a complaint to the FCC & FTC on these scambags!

Unfortunately, Non-profit organizations are not included in the Do Not Call list.

I recently read where there is a crew of ex cyberhunters who track down these scumbags and give them a taste of "justice' I just hope it is the truth!

This number has called my home many times, often before 9 am or after 10 pm. Also on a do not call list but receive tons of 1800 number calls, because they don't CARE.
searose 2010-11-03 21:47:09 Unknown
called Oct 27, 2010 at 11:49 am. Didn't leave a message. I don't answer 1800 numbers of any sort.

Someone from this number keeps calling. Please stop calling, I understand your seeking donations but in the time we are now, we ALL are seeking assistance.
LB 2010-10-04 21:11:22 Non-profit Organization
They don't want to take a donation from you; they want you to buy a magazine subscription.
Elvis 2010-09-14 01:01:31 Unknown
Not answering the call isn't doing you any good. The computer will never stop dialing your number until it is told to stop by a an operator to whom you actually speak. The key is to get an operator who will actually take your number off the calling list. I have found it is worth it to answer the phone and ask them their name and company and tell them to take you off their calling list. Annoying, yes, but sometimes it works.

get this call at least once a day..I do not answer unidentified 1-800 calls
Donna 2010-06-30 15:12:18 Unknown
Received a call on my fax 4 different times. There should be a good way to block these unwanted calls. I haven't found the no call registry to be any good.
Doris 2010-06-26 15:52:10 Unknown
I just received a call from this number, but I refuse to answer 1-800 numbers. They flood my phone everyday. I have put my name on the do not call list, but it does no good.
Sandie Rose 2010-06-23 22:27:14 Unknown
Just received a call from this number. Had called five times today but left no message. Said she was from 'Special Olympics' but was not asking for a donation or selling anything. Don't know what the Special Olympics scam but I stopped the conversation and asked she not call again.
Deb 2010-06-10 21:16:41 Unknown
this number showed up on caller ID...when I answered no one was there.
It seems that registering with the DO NOT CALL LIST is not valid for my number, I still get lots of unwanted and unsolicited calls.
