Just got a call from this number, but didn't answer. Got an automative voicemail asking me to the number back. Later the message said that it was an NCIC operative and that ______ was trying to call me. I didn't really under the name, it kind of sounded like Justin.

Got a call in school, didn't answer, they left a voicemail, i checked it and it was silent for 2 minutes. Its a Scam.

When I accepted the call it told me who it was from..in fact it was him on the line and it was his voice....I set up acct. And talked to him....NO SCAM

I received a call from this # and answered it....It tells you what jail it is when you answer. I put 25.00 on it and was told a one time fee of 4.95 is charge and I would have 15 min to talk....when they connected me to my call it said I had 7 minutes...

This is NOT a scam.  Someone is trying to call you collect from a jail.  This call could come in at any time because once they are booked, they are allowed to make collect calls.  If you have a landline you would just accept the charges, but if you have a cell phone you have to set up a prepaid account for $20 in order to accept the call.  When the call comes in, the recording will ask you to press 1 to set up an account.  An operator will come on the line and ask for your credit or debit card number, expiration date, and security code.  Then, if the caller is still on the line, the call will be connected.  If not, then the next time they call you will be asked to press 1 and the call will connect.  

Just got a call from this number, its regarding a jail facility in ALABAMA I dont even know anyone in AL! Its a SCAM.

On 2/14/2014 starting at 3:15 am I started receiving calls from this number.  So far today I have had 8 calls.  I called them back and they told me they are a Correctional Center in East Lansing Michigan.  I don't know any one in jail.  I will be reporting this to the local authorities on Monday.

This may also be the jail in Panhandle, TX, Carson County as they use the MCIC Phone service also.

This number is to an inmate pre-pay account which needs to be set up before you are able to speak with the caller. A deposit is required and minutes @ .90 per are deducted from your deposit. This company is located in Texas. If you recieved a call from the 800-943-2189 number it is most likely an inmate calling you. You can call the number on your caller id and they will help you set up an account.

This is apparently is the company that jails use to let inmates make collect calls.   I accepted & gave them my credit card info and it was indeed a collect call from my brother who was arrested.   The only bad thing is it cost $30 to talk to him for 30 seconds to tell me where he was locked up at.  

Got call on my cell at 7;30pm I don't know anybody in Marion Count JV jail or would be there!!

Wow, you don't know anything about this woman, but if her son is anything like my POS brother, she's better off not knowing where he is.

It's the State/County that is allowing these outrageous rates.  They get a cut and don't give a damn about prisoners, or their families.  If it costs $35.00 to find out someone you know has been arrested, they just don't care. I've read these contracts they have with these companies. It's a total rip-off, but only because the facility likes it that way and we allow it.

This 1-800-943-2189...she said it's from Cocke Co and the caller ID reads "inmate".  What's strange is they they're calling her house AND cell phone!  She said the name is Matthew Magahey or sounds like that.  I called the number and got NCIC.  The lady just said for her to answer the call, listen for the prompt to tell her how to BLOCK the call and do that.  We have NO IDEA who this is!!

This is ridiculous that you charge $10 for a 3 minute local phone call. Do you have special deals with the prisons to get in this industry?!!! THIS IS A GREAT BUSINESS!!!!

RECENTLY, THIS # CALLS ME ATLEAST 15 TIMES PER DAY..IT'S BLOCKED..NEVER WILL ANSWER..BLOCK ALL UNKNOWN #'s....

My 16yr old son has been receiving calls from this. I called them up and had his number blocked. The sales rep was very helpful. So we shall see.

Call your phone company and dispute the charges. File a report with the FTC and FCC, Attorney general.. fraud isn't funny at all!

My boyfriend called me from this number, i only accepted the call ONE time for $28.00 but I was charged $28 three times! How do i get refunded for this? it should've only been ONE CHARGE!!!

I'm having a problem with this number constantly calling me. I live in Michigan and know body from the area's the rest of you guys are saying. Whom ever this person is I forwarded it straight to voice mail they then called three more times immediately. And this was this morning at 8am. And once yesterday I assumed it was a bill collector and listened to my voice mails. I've had three in the last two day asking to call back this number so I know its not a bill collector it says nothing of my name or who to reach. Please how do I make it stop?

These NCIC calls are a real PAIN in the Butt at 3:00 and 4:00 on the morning when you're answering the phone half asleep. Been there!

However, although a little time consuming, if you are receiving calls on a regular basis they can be stopped.

First, Take care and don't accept these calls.

Online. . . . . you can file effective complaints with 3 government offices. These offices must investigate all complaints of  harassment, threats, fraud, etc. over the phone system and once a company or organization (NCIC included) receives notification of complaints and/or charges they must answer "each and every" complaint and/or charge or suffer the consequences.

This means that they (NCIC) will have to answer charges to no less than 3 powerful agencies for every complaint filed.

If outside Texas: File with your state Attorney General Office

File with all three and be sure to give dates, times, the company (NCIC), the number that called you and the amount that was charged to you, if any. Include any other pertinent information you might have.
