What kind of moronic attempt at a con job was that?  How about advising the people in question to IMMEDIATELY call Macy's and verify and then pay the debt if it's valid?  Why on earth would you believe that it's acceptable advise the public to set up payment arrangements with someone who calls YOU, before verifying who that person really is?

That presumes that someone actually owes them something.  As many here have already stated, for some there was no outstanding balance, and in other cases not even an active Macy's account.  Here's a better idea.  Why not have these third party bill collectors, subcontracted to entities from foreign nations with neither the laws nor social skills to which Americans are accustomed, actually know what they're talking about before they call someones home illegitimately demanding payment.  That would go a lot further to solving such a quandary than spewing nonsense in defense of inappropriate and in some instances criminal behavior.

The you are a criminal, and a stupid one at that.  Who in their right mind is going to buy into that asinine threat.  The mere mention of a threat to ones credit is a violation of federal law.  If you claim to be a supervisor of these moronic thieves, then you can count on the fact that someone is now looking for you.  Don't drop the soap you illiterate.

It is not Macy's. My Wife has a Macy's account and they do not call like this. This is definitely a scam so put them on your block lists or just ignore calls.

Someone from this number called and ask to speak to someone in our household. I ask what is it about and they would only answer it is a  personal matter. Ask to take a message and they gave me this # and said would not reach the same person when calling back. This tells me it is some type of call center with several people manning the phones.  I will not return the call,  not knowing if it is a scam.

I received a call this morning for my boss (who wasn't currently in) - the representative (Angela Jackson) was extremely unpleasant and started harping her "Personal Business Matter" nonsense. I advised her that, knowing my boss, he wouldn't call back a random 800 number without knowing the reason. She hastily advised me that she didn't need my help and she would call back later. Oh hells, no!

Stupid People.. i encountered the same problem.. they called me more than 6 times per day. at first i ignored it for i considered it as a scam. until such time i got tired of it and answered the phone. that i know that i was almost 2 payments behind.. which i didn't know of. then i suddenly remembered that i purchased something and did make a payment.. macys is doing their part in order to help us in our credit standing.. and the good thing was at that time i was able to set up a payment over the phone and it was totally free of charge.. and from that then on up until know i pay my bills directly over the phone.. since they already have my checking account information. you all stupid people. next time you apply for any credit card. be sure to pay it off. in fact its our card therefore its our responsibility.

My mom got a call from a 1-800-947-6229 # saying that she had not made a payment since july '12 which is false as we pay every month, and request a full payment over the phone.  I call the number and it just requests a acct # which i found strange.. I never entered it and hung up.  turns out that we are current and not a number for macys.  DO NOT RETURN THEIR CALLS AND ALWAYS ASK FOR PROOF BEFORE PAYING ANYTHING.. IF ITS REALLY LATE WAHT DIFFERENCE WOULD A FEW MORE DAYS MAKE.. NONE. ALWAYS CONTACT CREDITORS ON YOUR OWN TERMS.

True.  800-947-6229 called because I missed my payment.  You would think that Macy's would invest in representatives that do not sound like marketing people trying to harass you.  Very disappointed.

Don't give Macy's billing your bank's routing number and account number unless you're willing to pay an extra $14.00 convenience charge.  They tell you that AFTER you give them the information, then won't accept "no" I don't what to do that.  Ask to talk to a supervisor and the next thing you know you're listening to a dial tone.  This was to the 877-204-7996 number on the back of the Macy's card.

I just received a letter from these people and it says that it's Macy's but I looked on my account for Macy's and the information doesn't match at all.  It says that I paid $5 short of my bill.  The account number listed isn't even right.  So glad I looked it up.  Jerks!  It says it is from FDS Bank, a sister company of Macy's.  Umm my card is through American Express.

Robo call first, from somewhere in Ohio.  Picked it up, it was a recording saying someone would be on the line soon to talk about a "business matter."  We're on the do not call registry for the country and the state, so robocalls like that are illegal (though we still get them), so I hung up.  Got a call later the same day from somewhere in Mason OH, live person this time, said she was "Ms. Garrison," asking for my wife about a "business matter."  Would not give details, but when quizzed she did say she was with "SDS Bank, a sister company of Macy's."  Gave me a call back # 800-947-6229.  Sounded like BS to me, so I called Macy's, and talked to a nice guy in India.  He confirmed with his supervisor that Macy's has no such affiliated company, they are affiliated with CITIBank, and he said if someone was calling my wife about a Macy's charge account, they would identify themselves as calling from Macy's.  First impression seems to be confirmed: this is a scam attempt.

It's Macy's calling about your credit statement. I didn't call back the 800 number, but I called the number on the back of my credit card and the person verified for me that they were calling about my credit card bill, which I was late on a payment. I also asked about calling so many times and not being able to provide any info to whoever picks up and the man said that they are not authorized to discuss financial matters with someone who isn't you on the phone. I guess that's why they sound so shady, but it is Macy's. If you're worried, just call the number on the back of your card.
