Capital one. They called to inform us that our credit card was left at a retail store and they had cancelled the number and wanted authorization to issue new cards.

I don't care if it appears to be the Capital One Official Phone Number. I do not give any info out to anybody calling me. Many scammers know how to spoof a phone number ya know! If I am concerned I always call the phone number on the back of my card (lol ... that is, if I have an account with Capital One or the bank they are supposedly calling from).

This is Capital One. Make sure to pickup this call because it's a valid Capital One number. They called 2 times and then 3rd time left a message that they identified fradulent activity. Instead of calling this number, I called the number on the back of my card which was the same 800-955-7079. Im a customer and they told me someone in Nevada charged $150 to my card and I live in Illinois so theres no way it's me. Capital One flagged it as fradulent so make sure to call the #. I physically have the card with me so it couldve been related to Heartbleed bug. Capital One also stated that it seems like someone with a fake card used it at Walmart.
If you get this call, be sure to call back because maybe it could be someone using your social security number even if youre not a Capital One customer.

No they can't do that! They don't say sorry either....they can't take unauthorized payments out of your bank account. It's against the law! Nobody is saying banks never make mistakes, but when the bank makes an error and it's their fault THEY WILL PAY THE FEES! They have to, and I laugh at how many stupid people don't know their legal rights according to their own money. Pathetic.

This is Capital One -- that number is on the back of my card. It's a fraud alert call, to see if a charge that was made was legitimate or not. Not a scam.

I received a call from a woman from CSR wanting me to verify my personal information because I owe a debt. I told her I have no idea who you are, so I'm not going to verify anything. Then I asked her how did she get my cell phone number. She hung up.

Legitimate call from C1 fraud department making sure a large out of the area purchase we made was legitimate.
Jeannie 2014-01-31 14:25:53 Unknown
Receive many calls from this number. Usually don't answer 800 numbers. When we do, caller says they can lower interest rate on credit card. This is a scam to get your personal information!

I got the call from 800-955-7070 on my phone and my sons phone. They say they are Verizon and that I qualify for a $45 credit to my bill. It gives a link that I need to log on too. I looked it up and it's all a scam. Supposedly the site is fake. Luckily I never logged into the site

Actually this IS Capital One's customer service number:
http://www.capitalone.com/contact/credit-card ... R_C1_01_G_CNTUS
I don't answer any call where Caller ID says "TOLL-FREE" but out of curiosity I logged into my own CapOne credit card account and there's the number for customer service -- 800-955-7070. But never answer any questions over the phone -- if you need to talk to them, call them back. Then you know it's the legitimate number and not a scam.
Okay, let's be careful out there!

This number is from Capital One, just logged on today to check my account with Capital One today and it told me to call (800) 955-7070 for further assistance. This number is legitimate but it is always a good practice to call a number listed on the bank website or the number on the back of the card.
Callee 2013-03-27 00:31:52 Unknown
Definitely Capital One - I called the number, thinking the feedback here suggests it really is CapOne. I don't owe them money, so I'm guessing they're trying to sell a product, whatever. Irks me that - although they may be exempt from 'do not call' (having a business relationship) - there is no caller name on Caller ID.

They want your zip code because it will ask for it when you swipe your card at a gas station etc. DUH
Mulva 2013-03-01 19:15:43 Unknown
Just got a call from this number. The lady claimed to be calling from Cap One and the Caller ID listed the number as CPTL 1 FNC CORP. She said she wanted to verify me as the account holder and asked to verify my DOB. I told her "no chance" and she ended the call. It's got to be a scam to get personal info.
sam 2013-02-15 03:17:58 Unknown
I received a call and they left no message. I believe this is a scam to get your personal information. Don't bother to respond and if you do answer hang up.
Vinny 2013-01-25 01:47:33 Unknown
This is a very simple situation. If they call you and ask for info hang up and call the number back. Anyone can spoof someones phone number. Spoofing is when they call from any number but display information of whatever number they decide to show you. Virtually untraceable back to the person using the spoof. However when you call back you would get the person the number actually belongs to. Unless they are super savvy then they could intercept your call as well. But this is difficult for your average joe to do. Spoofing is not difficult. So they call you ur takin a 50/50 at it being the real deal. you call them 99.9% the real deal. very few things are 100% nowadays. everything has a hole that can be slipped thru or a firewall that can be broken.

They say they are calling from a fraud dept and want to know if I recently applied for a capitol one credit card??? Then when I ask questions I was put on hold for a very long time... I hung up because they can MAIL me something. All 3 calls I recieved were from a person with a heavy accent!! In my opinion this is a SCAM
paul 2012-09-24 22:14:27 Unknown
You can limit some of the personal information sharing with Capital One by calling 1-888-817-2970 and requesting that they "limit sharing" for 'our affiliates' everyday business purposes' - ' for our affiliates to market to you' and for 'non affiliates to market to you' .
You have to ask specifically for them to remove these as you can't just say you want to opt out of everything possible.

Sorry, I meant to reply to Ben.
Saly 2012-08-06 17:31:27 Unknown
I dont know where you get your information from Ben, but you are very wrong. Read the papers, check the news, always telling us to protect ourselves, not give out personal information, etc, etc. It happens all the time and is very hard to get money back.
