Received a message from someone with bad english stating his name was officer john brown and was calling from the federal crime and investigation department and there was a legal complaint filed against me and I needed to call him at 1-800-982-1278 before something goes wrong with me and an officer shows up at my doorstep or place of employment.
I called the number and the message said no one was available to leave a message.
Wanted to give them a piece of my mind but no answer!

This is a scam.  I also got a call from 1-716-242-5225- also stating the same thing. Be careful, do not give out your information.

How rude! Someone needs to teach them some manners! This person made you think as others have noted as well
that you were in trouble with some "Federal" debt, etc.  I asked him to not "beat around the bush" and tell me
specificially what the call was about.  Who, When, Where??? Then I told him I could not understand him and I wanted
to talk to someone who could speak "English" That royally pissed him off! Hung up on me....

This bothers me so much that we are so savy with technology and we can't stop this jerks from making these
annoying telephone calls.

I got a call from male subject with a foreign accent. He advised his name is Frank Martin and there were a legal complaint on my name. I would have to call back and deal with this issue immediately, or officers will show up to my address and arrest me. I attempted to call and speak with Frank, but the phone just rang. Im a Deputy Sheriff and I knew immediately it was a scam. Do not provide these people with any information. Have them use the legal court system to process any legal documentation to you.

It's a total scam and the guy that answers when you call back thinks he is some bad a** on the phone. I understand all the complaints cause it happened to me today. I owed some debt to the IRS 5 years ago but I have paid that off and moved forward. From what I can understand, perhaps some how old files from the IRS must get shifted around cause they are preying on people that have a past with the IRS and then try to scam them by threatening them as the "federal crime investigation unit".

These people are not even American. They are Indian scammers, the ones the IRS warned you about back in November. They operate out of India and use English names and have very thick accents and horrible English (all they seem to know is basic words and lots of profanity). For one, the federal government does not use 1 800 numbers. Second, when you call a federal agency, they give you an introduction with their name, not this "hello can I help you" BS like this a***ole does. I decided to give him the wrong name just to see his reaction and he claimed that he originally called looking for McDonalds and then bust out laughing and started calling me names. I can understand the frustration people are having cause the guy that is doing this does deserve to have his tongue chopped off. He thinks he's a tough guy behind the phone but this guy won't even give you the address of his company, which lets you know he's really a scared SOB.

If anyone can track this number please do so and send it to the REAL "federal crime investigation unit" that is otherwise known as the FBI. I want to see these people go down just as much as anyone else, and the idiot that does these calls could use a good few beatings.

definitely scam operation. Anybody who they have called who is reading this, Do Not Give Them Money! Like to hear other people messing w/ them. Also they should be reported to FTC, FBI and/or your state Attorney General's office. Don't think much can or will be done, but it is sad to think they obviously buffalo some people out of money. BTW my message was from an officer Robert Smith.

Thick accented man called stating he was an Officer Robert Sweets. Said he was from some crime agency. Very hard to understand and had a great deal of background noise. Made it seem like I was in some kind of trouble and to call back if I wanted to keep officers away.  I think it is a scam.

Just got the call from "officer alexander harris" he is sending the FBI to arrest me for wire fraud. I told him he could kiss my lilly white a** and to go to hell.

FYI look at your caller ID if it has a 11 before the number that means it originates out of the country.

I'd love to get my hands on the Indian jerk on this phone so I could choke him to death. He calls repeatedly claiming to be a police officer with the "federal investigation unit" and that he's going to have me arrested, and then goes on these profanity laced rants calling me the N word and various other abusive names. Then when you call back, the guy acts like a total coward on the phone and claims that he was just trying to call McDonalds before going on another tirade and laughing like he's some kind of tough guy.

The guy speaks in a very thick Indian accent. I doubt he is even in America and probably is calling internationally and posing as a police officer. This is an IRS scam that the government warned about a few months back. If anyone has information on these people please report it to the FBI, or if you really want to get your hands dirty, find this do***e bag and put a bullet in his head. This is not funny at all, and I am getting sick of it. He calls every few days and he can't just call once, he has to call over and over and leave his threatening messages to me and call me racist names. If you're the punk on the phone reading this, just so you know, you better watch your back. That's what you told me today, to "watch your back cause I'm going to send a police officer to arrest you at work", if i ever find you, I will blow your brains out, and I will be looked as a hero for doing this, cause I know I'm not the only one that is being harassed by your sorry filthy scummy behind.

If someone can trace this number and give the location, please post the address and information for this scum bag cause I will personally see to it that karma comes his way and makes sure he won't be picking up another phone for the rest of his life.

Some Indian guy calls claiming to be a police officer and leaves threatening messages. Upon calling him back, all you can hear is this shuffling around like an office and you get this "hello can I help you" if he's really a police officer, how come there is no agency introduction? If you ask why they called and don't give them the correct name, the guy responds with this BS claiming that he was calling for McDonalds and was trying to reach McDonalds and then starts cussing at you and making perverted jokes.

These guys are clearly operating a scam and pretending to be the IRS. I hope someone tracks these scum bags down and sends them to prison.

I owed debt back in 2006. I got a message on my answering machine from an Indian sounding guy claiming to be a police officer of the "Federal investigation unit" and he said that an officer would come to arrest me if I didn't call back. So i call back and I don't even get an intro with the agency name, it's just this 'hello can I help you' and when I asked why I was being called the man became very rude and laughed and then started cussing at me like it was some kind of joke. He went on to tell me I was a criminal as he kept screaming it 'You an f******* criminal!' over and over and over, so I hung up and have reported this number to the IRS.

These guys are scammers. They obviously are using old data on real people that did owe to the IRS years ago and then calling and scaring the crap out of them. I believe your number from years ago gets shifted around from debt collectors, and these Indian scammers like to play games with us. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. If they talk rude to you, get rude back! These people need to be brought down for justice, keep reporting them to the FBI and IRS for scammers.

They called and left a message claiming to be Officer Parker in a thick Indian accent. When I called back, I heard all this shuffling around like it was an office and despite impersonating the police, they answered with this simple "Hello how can I help you" and when I asked why they were calling the guy became very rude and threatening screaming something at me about being a criminal and how he's going to have me arrested and have sex with my sister.

I wish I knew where these people lived cause I would pay them a visit and beat the living crap out of them. What they are doing is illegal and they need to pay for this, they need to be drug up and down the street and beat till their bones are broken. This is serious BS. INDIAN SCAMMERS!!!

Got a call from this number today with the same message as the rest of you... A government agency, need to respond immediately or an officer will show up at my home or work. Very thick accent couldn't understand who they said the call was for. Called the number back and someone DID answer. Very unprofessionally though for a government agency. When I said they were asking for someone who did not live at my home they said "ok" and then hung up. Definitely a scam!!

IRS never initiates contacts by phone.  Always by mail.   Anytime anyone with a hindi accent calls you and either threatens you or offers you something you know 100% that it's a scam.  See the following notes.   If you are on a payment plan with the IRS, you can call the number on the documents that you possess.

See information here:  http://www.irs.gov/uac/How-to-Contact-the-IRS-1

Dear Miller, Vernon:

800notes is not affiliated with your callers, we are not calling you either. 800notes is a forum for reporting who calls you and any information you may have about the call to share with other forum users. It is highly doubtful that your callers are reading here also.  Your callers appear to be foreign extortionist scammers.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can Google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

Read the following - this will help you determine if you're dealing with legitimate collections agencies - always make sure they mail you proof of debt and proof that they have the legal right to collect said debt.  If they won't, don't pay them!  You can also read the links on this page (to the right) - lots of good information to make sure you're not being scammed!

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0258-fake-debt-collectors

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I questioned them asking "are you going to tell me they screwed up and messed up on my taxes"? I knew that had to be full of crap. Where I get my taxes done I know they dont screw up. They wind up hanging up on me. Call back block your number. They do eventually answer. When they want to.
