This is actually not about "updating your records," this is to collect a bill from the family services. Such as counseling, etc.

You obviously have someone who loves you and cares enough about you that they made a call to the ward you moved into and they knocked on your door to be of help and/or welcome you to the area. I have done that many times and people have been at the other end waiting with muscle to help unload the moving truck and with a nice meal after the long trip. Now if that is stalking, I will take that any day of the week.

yes they do call to update info - I get the calls from time to time on family members to send records out to the correct ward. If you are uncomfortable with the call -  It's easy to get the membership department number on line or just call the headquarters office and ask for membership department. I have had the same number for 20 years on my records.  Records are not always updated at the ward level, it's a frequent option, however, mistakes get made in entry and I personally have had our info changed by an angry in-law who happens to be in a position that they have access to the info - example they always remove our phone number so it ends up not getting published in the directory at the stake or the ward level.

It wasn't the "church" knocking on your door.  Duh!  Maybe a neighber that is a member and they were just being neighborly and welcoming you.........heaven for bid anyone should do that!  And even if they were representing the church that doesn't mean they were STALKING you.  Usually a stalker doesn't knock on your door and say hello and tell you who they are.  LOL  (Hello, I'm your stalker and I'll just be standing out here watching you.  Did you think no one would see you move in?  I know your names 'cause someone heard you moved in and we didn't want you to feel left out.  Everyone has one you know!)

Randomly call people.  They call YOU to see if they can find YOU.  That makes no sense at all.  I think they have better things to do than that.

BirdieAZ  the LDS church is not a cult.  And it is not very christian of you to say so.  Only shows how ignorant you are.  How about if I were to say the same about you?  Does your church even know you exist?  Just wondering.......

Political Call
This is a weird one.  I'm 62 years old, 50 years ago I was a member of the Mormon church.  Then my brain finished developing and I abandoned the Mormon church.  This morning I received a call from them, wanting to update my information.  I hung-up, but kept the phone number - to google it.  It was a Romney for president web site.  They are using old church records to recruit voters!  Since the 1960's I married, divorced, lived in foreign countries and have always voted Democrat.  I wonder how 'they' found me?  Big Brother is watching and the Mormon church is Big Brother.  Where is the separation between Church and State?

I just got a call from this number while at work today. As I don't answer unknown numbers, I didn't know it was LDS until I got home and looked up the #, then got really upset!!
I bet the missionaries will be knocking on my door Again, very soon.

My mom is hopelessly brainwashed by these cultists, and has given them my info for years, all the while claiming that she didn't. There was even a sub. to the Ensign sent to my house/s for more than 6 years. (over 10 years ago) I thought she quit.
I would like to think that she updated her info and included my Unlisted Cell # without thinking, but after all these years, of them hounding me, with her knowing help, I hardly think it was an accident. I wish I could get through to her about these people, but alas, it is futile.

I'm sorry your a member, the LDS Church Stalks people and if you are to blind to see that is up to you.  I have never been a member but the day we moved into our new how they knocked on my door and knew my first and last name and my maiden name.  If a religion is legit then they shouldn't need to stalk there members.

It's a message from the MORMON CHURCH, they want to update their records (mainly your address).  So you must either be a Mormon or an ex-mormon.  IF YOU ARE WONDERING HOW THEY GOT YOUR NUMBER:  My guess is that you have another Mormon family member and maybe they - at one time or another - have listed you on a form or something that they filled out for church (maybe an incase of emergency form or something).  I say this because I haven't been to a Mormon church in about 15 years, and the phone number I have now is only 5 years old, so there is no way they could have this number, however my father converted to the church about 6 years ago so perhaps he listed me on some forms or something and listed my phone number.  That's my only guess.

Called me thismorning.  It is the LDS Church, they were just looking for an update on my sons address for the Church records.  Unfortunately, my sons address is now Heaven, because I lost him 3 years ago to Leukemia right around Christmas time.  It takes the church awhile to catch up on records.

This number is the LDS Church updating records. If you do have a chance to answer the call they just want to verify or update member contact information. Nothing more.

They keep calling me while I'm at work (I can't answer calls unless emergency, and don't answer unknown numbers anyways). They leave a message saying they need to update their information on my ex husband. I think I know what state he's in, but thats it. Why can't they call his family???

I have received a couple of calls from this phone number since August 25th but I have not been home. My caller ID only show Salt Lake, UT. The third time they called, I was home and answered the phone. The lady didn't say where she was calling from but said that they were looking for a person by the name of ___ (they gave my name plus a middle name which wasn't me) with a date of birth of _____ . Since that wasn't my date of birth, I told them that it wasn't me. They said "sorry for bothering you" and hung up. I believe they look up people's names on the internet and randomly call to see if they can find you since I have never had any association with the LDS church.

Then pick up the phone and kindly tell them you would rather not have them calling you and to erase the number from the database.  What about privacy huh?  Really?  Considering the fact that they are a member of the church that is calling...privacy probably is not a big deal since the people that they are trying to find is one of the members.  A lot of people need to calm down and grow up.  It is a novel concept.

interesting you think it's ok for a church to call to obtain details about someone else.  would you do this for any old caller? what about privacy?  if the members want the church to know where they are, they'll tell them.  otherwise, you'd have to be an idiot to answer the phone and give out details for yourself or anyone else. YOU'RE RUINING MY LIFE AND EATING MY STEAK!!!

It is FOR SURE LDS group. I've had my number now for 10 years and have no freaking idea how they have my number. I didn't answer the phone as I didn't know this number. I googled the number found this thread and decided to call to see what was up.  Upon calling the number back it was a recorded message stating, "You have reached the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. We are updating church member address information of someone you may know and telephoned to ask you for assistance. We may telephone you again." I have NO affiliation with the LDS Cult either. I am a born again Christian (Southern Baptist). This just happened on April 20, 2011 at 2:56pm.

Called my phone today - left no message. If it is the LDS church updating their records, I find it odd that they would call my number. I've had this number for over 30 years and neither I nor anybody else in my family, immediate or extended,  has ever been a member of that church.

I am an active member of the church.  It is the church.  And they do update records this way.  Nothing is intrusive, despite the remarks from many angry people on this website seem to be.  Just trying to gather the fold or determine where the members of the church are...they don't do it to bother you, but do it because they care about you or someone else in your family.  Don't react so radical for a simple phone call or 2 or 3.  The third call just means they really care a lot....consider it a blessing.

WRONG.  The 240- prefix belongs to the LDS church, so it was definitely the LDS church calling.

Actually, I am sure this is the LDS church.  My step dad told me just today that they were trying to update info on me and called him.  I get a call from this # minutes later.
