I may know this "Joseph Williams". He scammed our company. He is a real person. Anyone still have any information or case numbers on him?

I recently received an email by a guy named Derek Early and since I was eager for a job I replied with my info consisting of name,address,age,cell# and email...later that day I went and searched a little further and found out it was a scammer. I am a little worried this might affect me on the long run so if anyone has any suggestions to what I can do or need to know please help me.

sure am glad this info is available on the internet because I just got the exact same email, this time from a Melia Derek.....Its so dis-heartening.....I have been seeking employment for many months, and finally get something that looks good only to google it and discover its a scam.....but thank goodness I found it, I was ready to respond....

I also received this email today and was suspicious, thanks for posting! I originally received an email from nmmnhc@yahoo.com, name Joseph William, asking "Do you still have it, i will like to know your last asking price of it?"

The second email was exactly as described above. I thought it sounded strange, esp with the use of two email address. I'm glad I searched online!

I also received the same e-mail yet he made one mistake when he was printing out the check he smudged the check with his thumb print........

I just recieved a check from the same guy today! I was wondering if anyone has actually cashed the check and what happened?????

I just went through the same thing.  Silly me, I gave him my address and cell number.  It got weird after that saying that he wanted me to pay for his mover, just like the rest of them say.  That's where the red flag came up. I pressed him for the name of the mover and he wouldn't do it, but said that he would forward the info with the check.  Backed out of that deal...a deputy assured me that the info he got wasn't enough to cause a bunch of trouble and anyone could find my address and phone on the internet anyway.  Still not sure I feel good about that though.

Thank you for posting!   My son received word for word the same offer!  He asked me what I thought so I took the info on my way to the office this morning.  I then had him give me his e-mail password.  Below is my convo with the CROOK!   From the get go this seemed off keel since there were no specifics and he didn't even want to see the goods!  While I was conversing with him I was also searching for info and came accross this and am so very glad that I did.  People like this make it very difficult to trust anyone on-line!  It was also apparent that this was from a differnt time zone based on the timing of the responses.

thanks for the information, the check of a sum of $3856.48 will be issued out to you, you have to deduct your $1495 and send the excess funds to the mover who will come for the pickup, it?s because i still have four goods that will be picked up in instates with yours, that why the shipment fee was $2361.48. I know this is none of your business, but due to the mover's policy that the shipment fee has to be sent by you, to show that you have permitted them to come for the pickup at your side. I am not comfortable with this proposal.  You are stating you have other goods to be picked up yet asking me to remit acceptance to the mover? These goods are not my property and I do not want to be liable.  I would like to receive a cashiers check for $1495 please.  If the mover must pick up payment then an additional cashiers check to him should be acceptable.  I would be willing to sign a Bill of Lading with the moving company to release the goods and to allow ownership to pass for the 4-wheeler.  If I need to speak with the moving company regarding the arrangements please supply the moving company's information including contact number and name.

I have attached a blank Bill of Lading document we can complete with you being the 3rd party responsible for freight costs.

i just got the same email except it was from mike scott photography. i didnt get an address but i got the telephone number, which i googled. i did not send my resume thankfully in the prior email as I was worried it was a scam.

What do they do this for? what do they do with the information taken from your resume or just email? i never respond once i know it is scam and report via hotmail.

Same emails but from a Roland Robin.  I looked up the name of the chief detective for the local FBI station and told him to send the check to him and I put the address of the FBI Internet Scam division.  I told him I was really excited to sell this item and please send the check right away!  He replied the certified business check was on its way (for more than the value and I had to send him back money, of course).  Here's to hoping he sent a fraudulent check to the FBI!!!

I just got an email for a job with this guy as his personal assistant on craigslist with the same phone number, I have been scammed before this way, what they do is they send you a check, have you cash it and mail out some of the funds via western union to someone and then the check bounces about a week later and you have just lost that money. Here is the email I got:

Thanks for all the info!!  Just got the exact e-mail on a truck I am selling.  He sent me the check.  I wish there was a way to reverse the scam on him!!!!!

Exact same email regarding a listing I posted on craigslist.com  Told him the item sold.  Folks, beware!

Same crook, different name, same phone number

Me selling something on Craigslist and getting:

"i'm okay with the price and i understand the present condition as
started in the advert, i will not be able to come and look at it
because i'm very busy at work, the easiest way for me to make the
payment is through paypal and i will hire a shipper that will come for
the pickup at your location, kindly provide me your name, address,
city, state, code and phone number for the mover to calculate the cost
of the shipment, with your paypal email account for me to make the
payment."

baiting him and he responds:

"thanks for the information, the check of a sum of $3976.34 will be mailed and you will deduct your $1495 and send the remaining money to the shipper that will come for the pickup, it?s because i still have about four goods that they will pickup in instates with yours, that why the shipment fee was $2481.34, i know this is non of your business, but due shippers policy is that, the shipment funds has to be send by you to show you have permitted them to come for the pickup at your address, let me know if you really want to sell it to me. "

Then he switched to the Western Union Scam option:

"You will have to deposit the mover funds at any Western Union Cash Transfer Office in Walmart or Outlet in your location.
 
Make use of the below info for the deposit.

You will deduct the Western Union Cash Transfer charges from the fund and you will email me back with MTCN control number, Total Fund Sent, Senders Name and Address, Pick up date and time with location once the fund has been sent, i will await your response asap"

Then he sends a registered USPS to the address I gave him (the local police station! :) And I tell him that is where he can pickup his cash in person ! ;-) ;-)

"No this is legit business and the mover must receive their payment before they proceed with the shipment and you can call me at (801) 738-6398."

Called the guy - he has a VOIP/Internet phone from Utah...

These scammers are getting a little creative but it certainly puts a bad mark on foreign people!!!!!  Anyone with an accent will now be suspected.  Nice,  a few a**les wreak it for everyone....
