These people are a joke. I got the same call telling me my computer is being hacked when i asked for their number i got 801-895-4681 and when i call it no answer. Before then I started asking them questions that they didn't like and they actually hung up on me lmao.

Just got a call from these folks giving me the same story that my computer was sending them error messages indicating my computer was being hacked. They identified themselves as "microsoft support" . I asked when they got those error reports they gave me dates before I had even purchased my computer!  I immediately got suspicious...and asked what the remedy was and they said I needed to buy software. At which point I asked for their #.  Then I called Microsoft Tech support. They indicated it was a scam! I called the # and got someone who identified himself as Ralph and the company as Software Technologies.  Is there some authority we can report these scam calls?

Known scam using lots of different numbers. Search on "windows tech support scam" or "Microsoft tech support scam".  Do not ever let anyone who calls you out of the blue access your computer and do not follow any of their directions.

I posted a message on 'who called us' which sounded just like your call.  The only way I got that 801 number was by asking if I could call them back as the number that came up in caller ID is 'disconected' when you call it back.  He said he works for SM technologies for Microsoft computers and that my computer has error messages and he wanted to help for free....yeah, sure....right there I questioned him about going into my computer remotely and he said they just wanted to 'help' me and he would be connectecting me with someone else who explains the details.....yeah, right...I just hung up after that and googled the phone number and came up with this site.

Someone called me from this number (after I asked to call them back as the # in caller ID is different & when you calll that number operator says it is disconected) and told me there were errors in my windows computer and it may be hacked and they wanted to help me...free of charge.....he said it was the technical dept. of windows computers in SM Technologies. Well needless to say, I said no thanks and if I needed them I would call back and that's when they gave me thant suspisious number...but like I said, it didn't come up in caller ID; I asked if I could call them back....I did try that number and when he answered he just said "hello?"...very professional.  I hung up.

My brother answered a call.  Luckily I know more about computers than my brother so when he referred the call to me I was able to get this guy to admit it as a scam over the phone.  Mainly by asking him to provide me with the offending IP address that was sending out the information.  When he couldn't do that I then told him basically how the scam works be first getting me to download some remote assistance software.  Then I asked him if he was going to have me open up the event log and read off a bunch of harmless errors that are common to windows and don't actually have any kind of real threat to the system. I followed that with telling him that next he'd be opening my registry and deleting stuff that's permanently screw up my system.  Finally I ended with telling him I'm an IT expert that does computer administration for a university and that I know how to set up a secure system and that I would never fall for his scam in a million years and that he should just give up.  He hung up when I told him I was reporting the call as a scam attempt.
