The calls come from criminal scammers in India who buy all the information they need from unscrupulous sources and individuals.  Also a lot of information is sold by large data heavy industries and businesses and it is perfectly legal.

Call blocker is your best bet.

The calls cannot be stopped, but you can protect yourself.  Invest in a call blocker.

Same thing here. They say they work for the US Gov.  The guy I talked to is Mike Welter ID# 1009.  I've been trying to call back and ask more questions but they have blocked my phone number.  What can we do to STOP these guys?  We can bi*** about it all day but some how we have to STOP them.  We did get on the site but all it is is a site with hundreds of grant website's.  I would think if they are saying they work for the US Gov. that our Gov. should know about them and stop them.

Political Call
BEWARE!! I just received a call from a man named "Steven Parker" with a middle eastern accent claiming to have $5000-$85,000 of free grant money in my name! First red flag! He had all my information and said all I had to do was log onto "www.grants.gov" to confirm my info. He was going to give me my username and password to log on to confirm. He gave me an employee state ID # saying he's in Utah and a "recording this call" number saying I could use these to confirm this is a legitimate call to get grant money. Why is Utah calling for AZ State?? Second red flag! Then he said I only needed to pay $3.87 for processing of my check. Third red flag! When I told him I never give payment info over the phone, he got very adamant that it was fully refundable if I didn't get my check in the next 72 hours! I told him I would call my AZ government officials to see if this was legitimate first, and he said "I AM your government official"!! He is very good at trying to convince you that this is legitimate, but I called my senator's office and they confirmed this IS A SCAM!!

I just received the exact same call from a "Steven Parker" who transferred me to a "Alex Turner" but they have middle eastern accents! They claim to be in Utah and working for AZ state government giving out free money in grants ranging from $5000-$85,000. They had all my information too and wanted me to log on to www.grants.gov to confirm my info. They wanted to charge me $3.87 to claim my check. I told them I was very skeptical as I had not applied for any grants but he was pretty insistent that this was not a scam. I told him, I am calling my government office right now to see if this is legitimate! I have left a message with the woman in charge of AZ grants to inform her that this is going on! I agree, I would never give ANY banking or credit info to anyone you don't know.

I have been getting calls that I have been approved for a grant and that in order to receive them I have to make 4 payments of almost $4 dollars, one payment from a different card. I have also been getting unwantted phone calls about furthering my education.

I just received a call from the same telephone number and what was scary was that they had my full name and address!  He also started off as an officer - then, with a heavy accent, he stated that his name was Steven Parker...LOL! When I told him that I didn't believe him, he then transferred me to his "supervisor" (who had an even heavier accent) whose name was Mike Brown.  Anyway, I was also offered the same ($5k - $85k) at $3.00.  I told him to give me the User name and Password first and if it works then I'll pay the $3. Obviously they declined!  I went to www.grants.gov and there is a warning about these calls on the site.  I then called the grants.gov and reported the scam call & info.  They said that they would NEVER call or randomly choose people for grants...you would have to apply for a grant!  Don't give any banking info or bank card #'s, doesn't matter how little $3 may be, once they have your banking information the damage can be more than that! Report this to grants.com and your bank too (just in case).

This guy called me and said that i won a grant ranging from 5,000$-25,000$ but the only thing i had to do was pay a 3.80$ processing fee. I went through with the process but now every time i try to log in to claim the grant it says username not found. I called the number back to try and fix the problem but they tell me the same thing each time, " wait 2 hours then try again." This is just frustrating !

I got a call from some guy who spoke broken English. He told me he was with my government and that I had been approved for a grant that I requested. I told him he was mistaken and he told me I wasn't and told me to listen. I told him no you listen. You need to put me on your do not call list. He said but you don't understand, it's free grant money you requested. I said no sir, you do not understand. I have not requested anything. I have not filled out anything, and you need to put my number on your do not call list or I will get my lawyer involved because I am tired of your company calling me and harrassing me. He wished me a good day and hung up. I blocked the number. I get several calls a day from weird numbers everywhere.

The caller identified him as an officer and told me that I had been approved after the review of my application to the state and they were going to send me free money. Told him no i was not looking for any free money and told them bye, then hung up.
I also got same type of calls from other area codes and numbers as well. saying I filled out some thing on-line about continuing  education.
