I am getting calls to my personal cell phone number looking for some hispanic person who apparently used my number to set up an account.  I am tired of it.  I am a kdg. teacher and do not need to be called and harassed for something that we have called them back about already and told them we are not the person!

I keep getting calls from 801-902-2972.  I called back from a different line and they are Discover Card.  I don't even have a Discover card.  I asked them to remove my name from their database, but I got another call this morning.  -_____-    There should be a law against this kind of harrasment.

Please tell me how to block them or what to do.

This number 801-902-2972 is from Discover card.  They are continually calling me even though I have put it in writing that they have to stop.  THIS IS FROM THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION.  The call back number they leave is 1-800- 347- 1120.  If anyone knows how to make these people understand simple English writing that says they cannot call anymore, let me know.  You are only supposed to have to put this into writing 1 time, but so far I have put it in writing not one time, not twice, but THREE TIMES!  These idiots are still calling me on the average of 8 times a day.

MAKE THEM STOP!

This is the automatic dialing machine for Discovery Card.  If you hold for a minute or so, a live person with a foreign accent comes on and asks about your making a payment on your past-due Discover Card.

They call 3-4 times daily, starting at 8:01 am till 8:59 pm, just within legal limits.  When I answer they ask for Dana Gomez, who I do NOT know.  I've had my number for 4 years.  She said she would remove me from their list but surprise surprise, they called again the next day.  Tried to call back both on the above # or on the 800# they provide in their message but both said to call back on a business day.  It's 11 am on a Tuesday, is that not a business day???? This constitutes harrassment and I am going to report them to the FCC.  I have never had a Discover card and no I most definitely NEVER WILL.

This is Discover Card. They have been calling for 4 months, everyday, 3 to 10 times a day, seven days a week.
When I don't answer they just call and hang up. If I answer they hit the pound key for the loud sound then hang up. I guess they really don't want to talk to me they just want to harass me. Once in 5 days they might leave a message.
They are just harrassing me they think. But I don't care how many times they call becauseI have the ringer turned off for all their numbers.
They alternate their phone numbers but do the same stupid stuff with all their numbers.
I hope they are having fun. How much is this costing them?

Yep, apparently it is the Discover offer you a card number.  I called the 800 number and was removed from the mailing listed and phone list.  I don't know who is running the company, but I would never accept business from a company that calls  from 6am to midnight.

Not sure what state you are in but got a really good letter from the State's Attorney General in California...who stopped them from calling try here:

Just type in "Attorney General' for your state,,

Here is 'California's..

Protecting Consumers
The Attorney General has made consumer fraud prevention a top priority. The current economic downturn and housing crisis have given rise to many scams, particularly in the areas of predatory lending, foreclosure consultants, credit repair companies, and debt consolidators and collectors.

In response, the Attorney General is taking action against companies engaged in unlawful activities, obtaining injunctions to shut them down, and recovering millions of dollars in restitution for victimized consumers.

If you have a consumer inquiry or complaint, the Attorney General's Public Inquiry Unit is available to assist you. Please visit our Consumer Info/Complaints page for useful information on consumer issues and guidance for filing a complaint.

go to the consumers complaint page they wrote me a letter back and the calls stopped.

Same here, the phone calls were for my dad. As far as I knew he was in jail but they wanted to know is if I had his phone number. "You have to be kidding," I told her. If he is out I do not want anything to do with him. Told them to quit calling me or my sister.

Let's clarify a couple of things.  It's Discover.  Make no mistake about that.  And these are not sales calls, even when they say "can save you up to $75" or whatever amount you have progressed to in their collection policy handbook.  That is a misleading tactic under review by the courts right now for violation of the fair debt collection act.  They're trying to trick you into calling them back.

I've recently fallen on extremely hard times (lost my job to downsizing, marriage fell apart in record time and he left me with the kids, holding all the bills, wiped out the accounts, and I'm 36 wks pregnant with our third child---he had just transplanted us for his job, so I have no friends here, and most of my family has passed away).  So I am about to file bankruptcy.  So yes, I am almost 3 months behind on payments, and this is most definitely Discover's collection efforts.

But what disgusts me the most is that I've been a faithful customer of Discover for 10 years, NEVER missed a payment, used it all the time, it was my preferred card, etc.  Poster child for their favorite type of customer who makes them lots of money every month in transactions and interest.  They were constantly raising my limit, credit score was well over 700.  Kept high-ish balances, but always paid on time, never missed.

I was THREE DAYS LATE with a payment when the calls started--and calls is an understatement due to the sheer volume.  THREE DAYS.  After 10 years of perfection.  I was beyond offended.  If that's the way you treat customers with flawless records, then you have officially moved yourself to the dead bottom of my priority list.  I was so torn up at first about not being able to meet my obligations.  Now I'm just pissed.  I don't feel bad at all. Not one bit.  They have not sent me a letter, they have not had a live human call me.  It's all auto-dialers.

They call me up to twenty times a day, 7 days a week.

For all of you who wonder at the stupidity or waste of making all those calls, it's a machine that dials a list that your number has been added to.  There is no work involved.  They are not paying someone to call you.  The idiocy lies in not monitoring the list for call results----i.e. if you've called a number over a thousand times (literally) and no one has ever once answered, maybe you should try mailing a letter.

That's the dumb part.  But it's no skin off their backs, it's a machine.  Free labor.  The only reason they would stop the calls would be to prevent loss on their part---i.e. fines for violating laws.  So if you're telling them to take you off their list and don't seem like you're hiding a delinquent customer, then they will comply so they don't get in trouble.  Or if it's your cell they are calling and you tell them you are revoking their permission to contact you via cellular phone, they will comply because that violates two different laws and they will get even bigger fines.

So basically, unless you give them a reason that will directly impact them/their business/their pocketbooks, then they will never stop calling you.  Because they aren't calling you, their machine is, and that machine does it all by itself with no assistance needed.

You may have to give your reason in writing though, in order to get them to comply.

P.S. for those of you that say they refuse to identify themselves, this is when you raise holy hell because that is blatant violation of law, and each and every one of their employees knows it.
