Prank Call
This is NOT AMERICAN EXPRESS. I called AMEX because of fraudulant charge in the amount of 5k in gift card purchases, (they alerted me) AMEX gave me this number for the merchant. 801-945-7919, and it says this is Le Anne McMullen from american express. These are scam artists pretending to be american express. Do NOT give them your card information, or any personal information. I suggest calling the number on the back of your card, or contacting them through their official website. Do NOT think this is American Express, because it is NOT!!

It is not American Express, i got a call from this number, and when i identified them i told them i would call them on the number on the back of my card. I did and spoke to a representative, he asked me for the number and was not able to identify it. He also said there was no notation on my account that indicated AMEX had contacted me and that ordinarily that us what they do.

I received my SECOND call today form American Express from a second phone number.  The first called me at 8:34 a.m. from 800-266-7073 and the second from 8019459061 at 10:13 a.m..  Instead of a man with a detectable foreign accent this caller was a young woman with an accent.  These AMEX folks do not necessarily hire Americans or they hire the children of immigrants  who are working here.  I told the caller that my husband who has the AMEX card already spoke to a representative last week and paid the bill, and that further calls were harassment.  I asked her is she understood, and she started to say some kind of crap starting with mam, and I interrupted her and told her that she could go to Hell.  There was no reason to call me twice today about my husband's bill when my husband already spoke to these b*****ds last week.  NOBODY SHOULD DO BUSINESS WITH THSES VULTURES!

Yeah it's Amex calling trying to get you to pay your bill. They've call me from 3 different states today! Tricky very tricky! But I don't answer my phone at all unless I'm darn sure who it is. If they know me, they'll leave a msg.

I called this number for American Express, and spoke with Mildred Rodriguez.  I would not give my name.  I told them that I did not have an American Express card.  (Though I did have a Corporate Card at one point, that was not something I shared with them.)  I told them that I had received no less than ten calls from American Express in three days; and that I wanted the calls to cease and desist.  I gave Ms. Rodriguez my telephone number, and she assured me she would have my number removed immediately.

Whether or not this will remove it from all of the other numbers is unclear.  However, Ms. Rodriguez was very professional and helpful in an extremely timely manner.

Due to the poor economy, I have customers who are 120 days late paying. I have creditors worrying me to death, but there's nothing I can do until the checks start arriving.
Amex. and anyone else can call until their hair falls out, but if customers can't pay after sending late payment invoices, collection letters, this should be a statement to Obama that the economy SUCKS!  I've been in business since 2004 and trust me, when 2009 rolled around, problems started rising with customers non-ability to pay. Small businesses are having less problems then large corporations.

I have an attorney trying to collect on my accounts, so creditors can just stand in line as I'm having to do.  Best thing could happen to this country is  A NEW PRESIDENT!  All the problems started when Obama rolled into town. He's a communnity organizer, not the responsible leader of the United States of America.
If this call is Amex, they  have umpteen numbers they are using. I now have four listed in my directory.  I do not except "unknown, restricted, unavailable or etc."  Hope they get the idea!

Just one word for these scumbags (directed at them) .... a**les!!!!

They really must be brain dead! They aren't ever going to get through. PERIOD!!! They will always get the same message greeting them each time whatever number they use!!!

Always calling people who don't have any business with American Express and trying to scam them out out of their money!

The FTC has been notified, next my lawyer!!! In short, I'm not buying their bs nor am I ever going to fall for it!
These a**les are total moron's!!!!

One other thing, I have called American Expresses customer service number (listed on their website) and spoke with one of their representatives (had to keep saying "representative" to get someone)... they confirmed that NONE of these numbers below are American Express numbers and do not go to any other department or service connected with or to American Express:

CID: AMERICAN EXPRES     (212) 380-3114
CID: AMERICAN EXPRES     (623) 492-8037
CID: AMERICAN EXPRES     (801) 945-9061
CID: AMERICAN EXPRES     (954) 503-2843
CID: AMERICAN EXPRES     (602) 537-9011
CID: TOLL FREE CALL         (800) 266-7073

And also the AmEx rep stated that they WON'T call you ... but rather it would be you (if an AmEx account holder) calling them! They'd NEVER call regarding such as discussed in this thread. They do what's known as inbound calling in other words ... not outbound as in the case with each of these reported numbers claiming to be AmEx!!!

It's a vishing scam, folks!!! DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION TO THESE A**LES AT ALL!!! REPORT EACH CALL, INCLUDING, TIME OF DAY, DATE, CALLER ID INFO!!! They are phishing for your personal information to either bleed your account dry (if you have an AmEx account) or worse, steal your identity!!! It's a SCAM!!!

http://idtheft.about.com/b/2009/01/19/american-express-vishing-scam.htm

"I received my first vishing voice mail today. The call came in early, and the voice mail said American Express needed to verify charges that were being made to my account. They asked that I call a specific number, not the number on the back of my card and enter my full 16 digit account number to be taken directly to the security department.

I knew immediately that it was a vishing call because I am not an American Express customer. But even if I were, I would never call a number left on my voicemail and enter my full account number. I assume that American Express would have that number and would need nothing more than the last four digits to verify my identity.

Identity theft and credit fraud criminals are getting more and more sophisticated. Beware of any incoming call that requests information that the company should already have on file. And when in doubt, always hang up and call the number on the back of the card, not a number provided in voicemail."

http://www.americanexpress.com/us/content/fra ... ncename=default

"Phone Phishing (also called "Vishing") is another way fraudsters try to collect sensitive information from you. In this type of fraud, the fraudster will either contact you by telephone or send you a fake e-mail and ask for you to respond by telephone.

If you are ever in doubt about American Express contacting you by phone, simply call the number on the back of your Card or on your account statement. Be sure to enter your account number when prompted and you will be routed to the correct department for assistance.

What Should You Do If You Supplied Sensitive Information over the Phone to a Suspicious Party?
If you have already responded to a suspicious caller with your American Express account information and you believe it to be fraudulent, please contact American Express immediately by calling the number on the back of your Card"

http://www.blindmansfaith.com/updates/2009/04 ... 1-800-592-1176/

"Last night we received a call from a person named Margaret (left a voicemail) saying it was about an important business matter and not a sales or marketing call. Wanted us to call back at 1-800-592-1176.

The message itself was very suspicious because if it was an important message, the person would have left a note about what was so important about it.

We did some searching on the web and found that this is a group of scammers who claim to be from American Express. When you call back, they?ll request your social security number as well as your American Express card number before they?ll tell you what the ?important matter? was.

Anyway, thought we?d post this on our blog in case any of you get the same message. The more information that shows up on Google search engine, the more informed others will be when they search for this number.

The most annoying thing is, we get these calls in the middle of the night (Shanghai time) because we have a California telephone number. We use a Packet8 IP phone, which is basically a U.S. landline in China! We get a bunch of random sales and marketing calls in U.S. time!"

And another thing ... Caller ID has "AMERICAN EXPRES" (one "s", not two!). If it were actually American Express or their collection arm it would be spelled "AMERICAN EXPRESS" with TWO "S"'s or TOLL FREE CALL (for any 800 number)!!! - But of note, American Expresses numbers are all 800 numbers (check their website)!!!

With the exception of the '*800" numbers, all the other numbers that have 'called' can all be traced to IP Addresses which indicate either a cell phone and/or VoIP service was used to make these calls!

Those making these illegal, harassing scam calls:
? ask for full account number plus social security number as well
? Call people how don't have an AmEx card or AmEx account
? Voice on other end is pretty much one with an Indian Accent
? And since the other numbers they call with is IP traceable that also could mean the numbers are spoofed

As to this particular reported number... traceable to IP addresses:

http://www.verifyphone.com/phone-lookup-reviews/801-945-9061

"Reverse IP Search Tracer for 8019459061

This reverse phone number was traced from the following IP addresses: 66.189.168.123, 108.81.54.114, 208.98.183.153"

Which indicates it's either from a cell phone and/or a VoIP service is being used ... possible Caller ID spoofing as well!!!

And also, to note ... They sometimes follow using a 000-000-0000 identifier, which means they're calling from an international site.

So, once again, these a**les can keep trying until Hell freezes over! They aren't ringing my phone with their stupid scam and they will fail each time! LMAO, what moron's!!!
I Doubt it!!!

These pests need to be exterminated!!!

Blocked/blacklisted all their spoofed numbers and their scam calls still show up on the call log. They are NOT getting through and ringing my phone once!!! Yet, these moron's persist ... including this reported number.

And I do NOT believe that this is or has anyrhing to do with AmEx or ant collection dept. they may have.

Reason, I never have and never will have an account or card with American Express. These calls started just this month. There's hundreds of complaints about such calls all over the net and not just those listed in this thread but many orhers. AmEx customer service has told thise customers, who called the number on the back of their cards, that these numbers aren't AmEx's numbers. AmEx has also warned on their own sites about such scams. The callers have an Indian accent, there has been reports that these scammers have also used names of orher well known businesses and the like to sound 'official' or intimidating ... using much the same type of bs spiel each time as well as pre recorded messages!

Never fell for this load of bull since these calls started. These a**les can try until hell freezes over they will never get through and their stupid scam will always fail!

Right now I'm actually LMAO at rheir sheer desperate stupidity!!! They really are such total idiots!!!
I doubt it!!!

First part of my post should have had:

Like many here:
? I don't have an account with AmEx. Never have and never will
? Which means I don't have an AmEx card either
Also...
? No dunning letter or validation of debt sent. Just these calls out of the blue. Doing it just luke so many bogus debt collectors out there ... some of whom, with help of a lawyer who handles such violations, I pursued and stopped!

Not to mention using multiple numbers from various locations around rhe country (last one was supposedly from Pasnippity, NJ) I'm willing to bet that these numbers are spoofed too!

http://blogs.northjersey.com/blogs/yourmoneysworth/comments/amex_phone_scam/

"I guess I raised my daughter well, because she can spot a scam at 50 paces. Here?s her recent Facebook posting:

?With the holiday season rapidly approaching, please be careful about credit card fraud. I received a phone call this morning, purporting to be from American Express. The woman on the phone wanted ?to verify a charge.? I politely explained that I don?t answer those kinds of questions on incoming calls, said I?d call customer service myself and
hung up. First, I checked my email because, in the past, when there was a question about my account, AmEx has used several methods to try to contact me. Nothing. I called the customer service number on the back of my card. You got it?they were not the ones who called.?

I couldn?t have said it better. any time you get a call or email seeking to verify or check a financial transaction, follow Jennifer?s advice:
Politely say ?sorry? and call the customer service numberon the back of your card or on your bill."

Prank Call
And from some of those other numbers listed in the post above:

http://whocalled.us/lookup/6234926031

"We have been getting calls from 6025379012 and the caller ID lists the caller as 6234926331. I saw on this site that this was supposedly an AMEX call. I called the number on my AMEX card and spent about 20 minutes with a representative. She assured me that my account is OK and up-to-date and that these #s ARE NOT affiliated with AMEX. I strongly suspect a phishing or spoofing scam. DO NOT talk to these people and DO NOT call them."

"Called the FCC to complain that I am getting calls from 623-492-6031, 216-545-8326 and others posing as banks and scamming people into giving out personal information. I told the FCC rep that the scary thing is that they somehow have hacked into the telephone system and can have authentic bank phone numbers shown on your caller ID screen. The FCC representative said that this was called "spoofing" and was considered fraud, so was under the jurisdiction of the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) rather than the FCC that concerns itself with only unwanted telemarketing calls. They also said, unfortunately, that this kind of fraud was almost impossible to investigate, let alone prosecute - so the best thing to do is let it go to the answering machine if you don't recognize the number"

"Got a call from this number, yet ANOTHER in a long string of FAKE AMERICAN EXPRESS PHISHING SCAMS. This has been going on for months, my landline, my cell. These assclowns call from cell phones in Florida, New York, Arizona, just to name a few. They fake their caller ID to read Unknown, or American Express or they are identified by "cell phone"
Real American Express does not call their customers asking for personal information, and they certainly do not call you from cell phones. The premise of the phishing scam is to get you to enter your legitimate card number and expiration, then once you have done that, they will ask all kinds of personal info, like if you want to make a payment by phone, they will request your banking info.
Before you know it, your card has been used fraudulently and your bank account is cleaned out.
NEVER NEVER GIVE THESE FOLKS YOUR PERSONAL INFO. ALWAYS VERIFY WHO YOU ARE ACTUALLY TALKING TO."

"AMEX has told me this is a scam. A recorded message said they were American Express calling about my account and to call them back at an 800 number before the close of the business day. I called the AMEX phone number on my card and they said no one from AMEX has tried to contact me."

http://www.everycall.us/phone-number/1-623-492-6031/

"

I received a call from 623-492-6031 on my cell phone. They asked for my ex and said they were from American Express. I stated this was not his number, the women was rude and stated that he gave this number as a alternate contact number. I doubt he would have given my number as a contact. I called him and told him they called. He returned their call and when questioned about contacting me they stated they never did nor do they have my number in their file. Now I have the proff they called my cellphone twice in the same day, even after I told them it was not a contact number for him. I am not very happy about this, I don't like lairs!"

http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-623-492-6031

"Everyone, here's the deal. I just called Am X. They said it DID show up as one of their departments.
The agent said he would call the number to find out what it was about. I said ok but only if you agree not to share any of my information because of the heated information I had found on this site about this number.
He agreed he would not put me on hold, call the number , find out the department and not share my information. When he called it was a message wanting my card number.
He told me he was also suspcious now because it was a machine not a person.
He said he was going to report it also and put on a note on my account about what had happened.
So everyone, whoever has this number, has found a way to incorporate it into amx directory.
Be careful.
I would agree with other posts. If someone calls you don't give into. Call the number on your card."

[page 23]
"all of a sudden i started getting calls from 623-492-6031 at my work...i have no issues with anything related to amex...most for the time they leave no message, but occasionally they leave a voice mail in a recorded female voice with a british accent telling me this is not a marketing call, and to call an 800 number...more than likely a scam, otherwise it would be a live person, not a recording, leaving more information about the issue, and would leave a message EVERY time they called...not just hang up...

just another scam operator, who somehow got a hold of my work phone number....

just ignore them, and NEVER call back any 800 number they give you...I have gotten legit messages after making an unusual purchase or used a card I dont often use, and so I expect the call...but even then I dont answer the phone, and I dont call back the number they give...I call the number on the back of the card, and they they transfer me to the security dept if they see a flag on my account."

http://www.everycall.us/phone-number/1-212-380-3114/

"I receive the same calls from AMEX and don't have a card. While it may be legitimate collector (fishing for someone who might know someone who is delinquent or from an old phone number), I would be very careful about putting a credit card number in to a prompt without knowing for sure they are who they say they are.
...
Do NOT give your credit card to someone who calls you."

"They claim to be American Express when you call the number back, and then instantly ask for your 15 digit card number. 1)I don't have an American Express card 2) Go to any authentic credit card web site and the first thing they will tell you is that they WILL never ask for your full card number personal information"

http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/9545032843

"Although this comes up as American Express on caller ID - this IS NOT AM EX!!!  I called the official 800 # for American Express because I was tired of these calls.  They referenced their call station #s & this isn't one of them.  The attendant advised me that they are having problems with fraudulent calls.  DO NOT call this # back & DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY personal info!!!!"

"This is a SCAM. They are not AMEX but will ask you for your card number and SS#."

"it's an AMEX scam. do not give them any info, just report them to donotcall.gov or AMEX......."

"I received 954-503-2843 American Expres on my home phone.  I don't have their card!  I ignored the call since it must be someone "phishing" for information.  That was today, 08/19/2011 at around 12:04 CST p.m.  Then again, at 3:09 CST p.m. another call with a 623-492-8037 American Expres on my home phone again.  These people are just trying to steal your identity.  I'm on both the Federal and TX. State "Do Not Call Lists!"  Don't answer it since it is just a way to steal your identification and your money....if you have this card--which I don't.  Have a Blessed Day!  :)"

"I also got a call from this number it is in Fort Lauderdale where Amex is based - but if they actually call you their num ber would show up as a toll-free number even if they are calling from an internal land line. It is a scam - anyone who asks you for your SS# or Date of Birth is a scam - Amex ask for secret codes from you."

Tracible to IP Addreses ... hich means Cell phone and/or VoIP services used:

http://www.verifyphone.com/phone-lookup-reviews/212-380-3114

And then there's these:

http://idtheft.about.com/b/2009/01/19/american-express-vishing-scam.htm

"I received my first vishing voice mail today. The call came in early, and the voice mail said American Express needed to verify charges that were being made to my account. "One message sounded something like this:

"My name is ____. I'm calling on behalf of American Express. May I please speak to Amy Fontinelle? (4-second pause) Amy Fontinelle please. On behalf of American Express I want to thank you for speaking to me. If you have any additional questions please contact us at the number on the back of the card. You have a nice evening."

There was no pause in the message after they said "Amy Fontinelle please." Also, I never spoke to them, so why did they thank me for speaking to them? It should be noted that all of the voice messages were from women who sounded unmistakably American--I don't think there was a language barrier problem.

Another message sounded something like this:

Hello this is ____ calling on behalf of American Express on a recorded line may I speak with Amy Fontinelle. (2-second pause) On behalf of American Express I want to thank you for speaking with me today. If you have any additional questions you may contact us at the number on the back of the card and have a good day."

How funny is it that I have 2 AMEX accounts, or I did.   Was late on one, my mistake...They 'emailed me that I needed to pay up of the account would be suspended.  I run some of my business on that card, so I immediately called and transferred the $1000.00 to them - like I said, my mistake.  The next day all my accounts were terminated, AMEX no longer wanted my business after 34 years.   No biggy, easy enough to migrate the auto billing, opportunity to audit what I was paying for...so benefit to me.   But what AMEX did not realize is all the businesses I own that take AMEX cards...we share with disgruntled AMEX card holders our opinion on AMEX and our choice to no longer support their business practices.
