The texts I get say, "California CU frozen" & "We perform a usual maintenance please confirm your California CU details" I've been getting many texts with different phone #s. Here are a few they wanted me to call: 215-310-0133; 530-616-8912; 802-851-7268; 310-202-0403. Usually, the texts have different digits@vtext.com. How do we block them?

I've been receiving some of the same texts from the same company. It started over the weekend for me. I called Verizon & they said to forward the texts to them. I couldn't figure out how to forward a text on my phone, so I just sent them an email with all the information: number it was received from (vtext); my cell number that was affected, and the call back number that was given.

Seems to be a scammer trying to obtain your credit/debit card info. They initially sent me a text from 8008274203@vtext.com, which said "Call 802 851 7268 attention required." When I called the number a recording played and said that your account ending in....will be suspended due to "internal security issues" and that I will need to confirm my account info through some prompts. Anyway I hung up, called my card issuer who said this must be a fraud. I've filed a fraud report.

Call Verizon right away!!!!!   When I spoke to Verizon I was told it is definitely a scam.  They had me forward the message from my cell phone to 7726.  I got a text back thanking for reporting spam.  Fight back by reporting.  The more reports Verizon gets, the more security they add.

This month February 2013, my wife's email was attacked and my computer received a virus (and I have Norton Security).  The economy must be very bad where they are at.  No money from my wallet will they ever get.

Message sent from: Text message  from 1108274203@vtext.com

Message reads:  (Alert) Call 8 0 2 8 5 1 7 2 6 8 Attention Reuired.  California C U

To add to my previous post, check the California Credit Union site and they request that you forward any scam email or text regarding them to phishing@califonriacu.org

I just spent about 45 minutes on the phone with Verizon Wireless regarding this number and several others I have gotten with the same message. That is the message regarding the California Credit Union or CCU. They have tried to block this, but we will see. However, what they have requested is that any of you that get these messages report it to their Tech Support. They are using several other numbers as well as  the letters cacu, all @vtext.com.

I have also received the same message from numbers with a 503 and 513 Area Code, but did not keep them.

Please if you get any messages regarding CCU regardless of the number to call, Please, please, call Verizon and report it so they have a better chance of finding and stopping these idiots.

Thanks for posting this information.  I received this text message about 5 minutes ago.  Fortunately, I checked the board before responding.  I will look up the address and forward it to Verizon's fraud or spam mailbox.

I received a text from 3322817829@vtext.com today at 11:27AM.It said that my attention was required to call 8028517268.I dialed the number from a landline phone and a recording came on and a woman was caught mid-sentence.She said that this was a verification service and that my debit card beginning with 425416 was in danger of suspension due to a limited internal suspension error. It then goes on to say press one to get verified.Of course I pulled out my debit card to check the beginning digits. They absolutely did not match. I did not have a chance to enter 1 however the recording then asked me for my 16 digit debit card number.I hung up.I knew that it was a scam.Shouldn't they have that information already if they were the ones contacting me for verification? Normally you?re only asked for the last four digits of your card when they want to verification on the telephone. In any case,I reported it as spam to 7726 which I just found out about today thanks to a Web User.

Feb. 26, 2013, 12:43pm PST:  Two texts in a row came in to my personal, private cellphone, from a sender I do not recognize.  First says "Attention Required, Call 802 851 7268, California C U"
My cellphone readout says the sender on the first text was 2222817829@vtext.com ; the second, 8008274203@vtext.com .  Reeks of scam, I have no intention of replying.

I too just received two separate text messages instructing me to call 8028517268. I called from a land line (I know better not to call back from my cell!) and it was a recorded message about my debit card being comprimised and to enter my card information.
I'm not stupid as many people are and I did  not enter any numbers and just hung up.  I contacted Verizon to inform them of these text messages and also that I don't expect to be charged for text usage from spamming texts.

I also keep recieving messages from them saying I have issues.  But I don't have that credit union as a bank.  A friend of mine said that our school district got hacked.  And these texts may be going out to teachers.

Just received ANOTHER text scam saying something about my "California CU issue", wanting me to call the above number. All the texts are coming from different vtext.com accounts (vtext is a Verizon-based Internet-to-text service) and seem to be attempting to scam Verizon cell phone users in particular. I googled California CU and got the California Credit Union website which warns of these scams from as far back as 2009. I also got information from this website (whocallsme.com) from another scam number (530)616-8912 where people were actually calling the number back and a message would tell them to leave their debit card number to rectify the problem. Don't get scammed! Call Verizon instead and lodge a complaint.
