The donations to the SC FOP are NOT tax deductable as it states on the reverse side of their "Pledge" letter. It states quote " The independent state lodges of the FOP are recognized as non-profit organizations by the IRS, and because of their particular tax status, contributions are not tax deductible.".

Fraternal Order of Police
New York, NY: The State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's Office brought a lawsuit against the state Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), alleging that the order used money it received in donation for personal use. Tapping an outpouring of generosity after the Twin Towers attack, the FOP's foundation collected more than $15 million in donations. A solicitation on its Web site pleaded for help to "ease the financial burden of those officers who suffered catastrophic injuries and to the families of those who gave their lives trying to help others." The suit claimed that the FOP distributed only half the funds to the heroes' families. The Attorney General's probe revealed that the organization filed away millions of dollars in annuities and spent money on itself. In May 2003, the FOP used $925,000 in donations to buy its lodge headquarters in Hicksville, NY. It also spent about $400,000 of WTC funds to pay off debts, and doled out more to non-related charities and other FOP lodges around the state, the AG found. At the direction of ex-president Frank Ferreyra, a former insurance broker, the FOP invested $4.5 million in nine long-term annuities, without specifically putting them in the name of the WTC fund.
In a settlement reached, the state Fraternal Order of Police has agreed to surrender more than $9 million to families of fallen cops and to a health-care program for Ground Zero responders. [NEW YORK POST: DONATIONS FRAUD]
THIS ORGANIZATION NEEDS TO BE STOPED!!!!!!! THEY ARE COMPLETE FRAUD!

Was a recording asking for donations for a police organization, I listened and didn't say anything, until asked if they could contact me twice a year. NO

In SC (depending on the lodge) they do indeed solicit funds in this manner. I did some research and got the phone number of one Mike Loftis 1.866.347.2367 , he assured me that my number would be removed TODAY from this calling list. Keep in mind that this number is for South Carolina ONLY as far as I know. He was very nice and repeated the number to be sure it was correct.
It is probably for a very good cause (?) but leave my numbers the hell off of all your lists!
| Sandy 2011-06-06 20:59:11 Unknown |
How many times do we have to tell you to stop calling? I have written, I have repeatedly asked to be taken off your calling lists but you still call. Your organization's practices are annoying and unfortunately if you read the fine print so little of the monies raised by your organization actually go to the officers. Which is the major reason I do not feel SC FOP is a worthy charity.

SC FOP FNDN (South Carolina Federal Order of Police Foundation) - calling several times per week. They are looking for donations and I explained several times that I only donate via my company's program and please do not call but they keep calling. Very Annoying - wondering if SC law enforcement really endorse them or not.

Definitely call Mike Loftis at 866-347-2367 and let him know. He was very nice and did repeat the number back to me to confirm he had it right. They were calling MY cell phone for my husband! I had told them multiple times that they needed to call HIM!

They really are everywhere, but not to worry, we got them nailed to the wall, they are not going anywhere without us knowing about it.
We told you, end the deceptive acts and practices and you would not hear from us. But you all did not believe us back in 2008 when we told you to clean it up. That was not a wise move,

If they can call you and use these techniques on you, we have a right to use them back on them but telling you what the techniques are so you can spot them too.
These ethically challenged individuals need to take a look at this story about spoofing caller id numbers. The part they dont understand is in the case of spoofing a phone number in another state to employ a local connection to your local police department is a deceptive practice especially when in combination with a local mail drop to further mislead the public. Hey one wants to give local and you just ask them this
These people get local numbers for virtually anywhere through websites such as skype. The numbers can even have your same area code and prefix as you. Buying skype numbers when you could just call using your normal local exchange in and of itself is deceptive because they are doing it to imply a local connection. If they were not trying to trick you into thinking they are local to you or from your local police then they would call you from their 727 area code, It is an AUTOMATIC DECEPTIVE ACT and PRACTICE and it is actually taking money away from your real local charities and by default raising their cost to raise funds and making them look less attractive to you the donor.
That is a very dangerous technique because it flouts the Sherman Act and in North Carolina it violates NC GS 75.1, NC GS 14-100 and depending on what they spent the money on, it might even violate NC GS 14.72
In North Carolina all liget groups are being damaged by the money drain that these groups are causing. It shrinks the available pool of money for them to tap in THEIR local areas and ALL have a duty to sue each and every other charity that is causing damage to their donors. Not to mention that some of these groups get government funding to run their program and that being the case THE GOVERNMENT has to dole out more taxpayer money then they would if these groups did not exist.
So they are robbing donors by misrepresenting a local connection
They are robbing every charity that operates legally because they have to compete with fraudulent techniques they legally can not use to attract donations. Because the groups using them are breaking the law.

The people calling you are professional fundraisers no matter what they tell you. The problem is that some of these charities have acquired their own fundraising people, but they acquired them from a pool of "phone pros" that have been highly trained through trial and error over many years in the art of getting into your head and your wallet at the same time.
Its the techniques that need to end. Most of the people calling you are just trying to make a living and do this for 40 hours a week, they have no idea what these techniques are or how effective they are, but we know how effective they are because we invented them, but they were designed to help charities but are being used now to manipulate donors.
Every time we see these techniques being used we are gong to report it and very soon we will have a database of everyone of their phone numbers. They will not be able to hide from us anymore, or from us exposing them to you, the people who want to make a donation and do something good for their community, but these people and stuck themselves between you and the charity.
\
99% of the charities have no idea it is being done to them or are just desperate for cash.
We need everyone of you to help us by leaving detailed complaints on this and other boards under the numbers that call you. Also, search out the other sites that have this number listed. Once the database of numbers they use is complete it will eliminate the type of fraud that badgefraud.org goes after and we will slip to the background to monitor all these fundraisers. Some of these fundraiser will get huge fines for some of the calls that are already being complained about on these boards. One, Community Support that got sued during operation false charity last year, I think gets a 40,000 dollar fine for every violation that is declared fraudulent. They need to realize that the techniques are unusable and illegal, and end their use.
Fundraising over the phone can and is done by the fast majority of charities ethically and legally and these people need to get on board or we are going to drop them either in the poor house or a prison.

Its all connected to this California lawsuit that started during "Operation False Charity" they set this up so they could keep raising money with out all that bad press that that is in the name of Police Protective Fund
http://ag.ca.gov/cms_attachments/press/pdfs/n ... ce_officers.pdf
They got sued by so many states that they set up this new scam using all the same stuff, right down to the sales techniques that many states have told them are deceptive. I am an expert in those same techniques.
Paul Kutac and June Mellon were not sued so they are the ones that set it up. They use this boiler room out of Hudson FL
Here is one of their employee's a few weeks ago http://blogs.tampabay.com/bizarre/2010/05/wor ... er-a-tooth.html
There is even a site detailing it here http://pfcl.org/Officer_Down_Foundation.html
That should be all anyone needs, just dont give them any money and call your local police sheriff and local media and tell them someone tried to scam you from this group in the name of Fallen Officers so they can issue a press release so your neighbors dont fall victim to these clowns

thanks for the information I have been donating for the last few years and I lost the information letters this year and was looking for it to send in my donation. My husband was an officer in Charlestion,s.c. and now my grand son is one. I am very proud of the work the local police does and I would like to donate to them. does anyone know the real place to give a donation? I know they help the widows and such some.
May God bless them and keep them.

Same thing as above only my caller was very rude! Began by saying something about the police at my door??? Told me not to hang up this time...then said, "Oh, I didn't know this was a business." and hung up! Weird! Never send money to these or other callers-the troupers and cops don't get the money and if they get anything, it's only about .05 cents on the dollar! Check before you give!!!

I wonder what would happen and if the State would take the hint if everyone continuously harassed by these folks ended up putting the number on automatic call forwarding to the Secretary of States office?
I don't give a crap if they are exempt from the "no call list" being a private fund raising group. Harassment is harassment no matter how you cover it and maybe it's time to let the law makers know if they can't fix it, we'll vote someone in that will or will forward these live or computerized calls to their homes or offices to deal with!!

THEY WANT SEND YOU ANYTHING IN WRITING TO PROVE THAT YOUR DONATION IS GOING TO THE CHARITY THEY SAY IT IS, BUT WITH YORK COUNTY, SC BEING THE MOST CORRUPT COUNTY IN THE STATE OF SC. ITS NO BIG SHOCK THAT THE LAW ENFORCEMENT RUN SCAMS JUST LIKE ALL OFFICALS DO AS WELL..

Oh yeah, and the "Pledge" form had been mailed from Zip 30043, Lawrenceville GA.
The return address on the envelope was 3900-C Battleground Ave, Greensboro NC but a Google map search doesn't show any such name at that address.
| Josh 2010-02-28 21:48:56 Unknown |
We said "send us the information".
The "Pledge Form", in tiny print, says "...because of the particular status, donations are not deductible as charitable contributions for Federal Income tax purposes."
Also, in LARGE letters, "PLEASE MAKE THE CHECK OUT TO NCFOP " Nothing about "Fraternal, etc.
The local Chapters of the NC Fraternal Order of Police are legitimate nonprofits and do file IRS Form 990. Contributions to them would be deductible.
