Prank Call
This number called my mother this morning. The caller said that he was, "Eric Wilson from Microsoft Windows Service Center". He stated that he needed to check on her computer for viruses and malware. He walked her through registering her computer with a website and running a scan that came back showing "315 Errors".  Then he had her look at the bottom of the screen where a message said that her warranty was expired.  He asked her how old her computer was and she told him. Then he quoted her prices for extending the warranty 5 years at $120 or a lifetime and transferrable to new computers for $160. Then he asked for a debit or credit card number. My mother gave him her debit card number. Then he said the debit card system was down and asked for a credit card number. My mother gave a credit card number. Then he said that was declined and asked her to make a Western Union transfer to him and provided information. My sister tried verifying the authenticity of the call by calling the number given, 804-435-5322, and someone answered the phone identifying himself as being part of Microsoft Windows Service Center and when questioned they confirmed that there was an Eric Wilson there.  THIS IS FRAUD AND A RIP OFF SCAM.  No reputable tech support center would call you unsolicited, without a work order, trouble ticket or problem case about technical problems on your computer and then ask you to give them your payment information.

DO NOT ANSWER CALLS FROM, OR GIVE ANY INFO TO, THIS NUMBER - they are scammers who know that most of the people they call know very little about computers and they're betting that because of this, you'll be easy prey.  Microsoft can't see your computer or its errors and doesn't do reverse tech support. (Think it over - do you actully think MS monitors everyone's computers and pays tech support people to call everyone having problems with their software? That would be a violation of your privacy, impractical and would bankrupt MS.)  If you have contacted MS (or any other software/computer company) with an issue, obtain and keep track of the ticket number/issue number/tracking number.  Make sure any contact seemingly coming from MS (or any other software/computer company) includes THEM providing/referencing that ticket/issue/tracking number.

Received a suspicious call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft, saying they were getting messages about problems with my computer.  They walked me thru inf virus and eventvwr from the run box.  Then they had me go to a website called showmypc.com and wanted me to give them contol of my computer.  At that point I told them I would have to call back and they gave me this number.  When I called the number back, the automated message said welcome to the conferencing center.

Telemarketer
Kevin called this morning 8/11/2012 stating that there were junk files on my computer which were
affecting the internet, if allowed to continue my computer would no longer be usable.

I told him that I had antivirous software installed to prevent this from happing.

He stated that this was not a virus /worm but that my files had been corrupted and that he would
assist me in resolving the problem.

When I spefically asked him who he worked for he stated Computer Support at Microsoft.

Suspecting that this was a scam I requested that he provide me a telephone number so that I could call back for security.

The number he provided was (804) 435-5322, which is definitely not Micro Soft.

When I specifically asked who he worked for he stated Microsoft and had called to help me resolve
this problem.

I received a call from an Indian accented male claiming to be from Microsoft technical support claiming that my computer was sending them error messages and they wanted me to visit a support site and enter a six-digit code to give them access to my computer.  I aksed them how I could verify their identity and they gave me a number to call (IBM) to verify who they are (BTW. the number showing on my caller ID is "unknown caller").  He has called my house back now twice because I haven't called the number to verify their identity.  Instead I called Microsoft technical support and they could not verify this was legitimate or not.  I could not find anything legitimate on the Microsoft website or internet related to this number.  I can only assume it is a scam.

I received the same type of call from this number except they claimed to be calling from Microsoft and the caller had a heavy Indian accent.  They told me that my Microsoft software had expired and offered to reinstate it for a "senior discount" of $250.  When I asked for a callback number, I realized that it was not from Microsoft.  This is indeed a SCAM!

number was slightly different, but think from the same scammers VirtualPCSupports.com
804-435-5311

They used TeamViewer remote software to get into the clients computer. They tried to charge him over $900 for their bogus services. They claimed to be from Dell and some government agency.

Just got a similar call.  I stalled them and checked the Virtual PC Support website. It has warnings about a scam using its name.  I can't tell whether the aim is to infect a computer or sell us something we don't need.

Received call from an "unknown number", "Nick" said he was calling from PC support services, informing that they see that my computer may be infected. He had me go through some steps to show that there were "errors" and "warnings" on my computer, he wanted to proceed on by having me log on to a site and give me a code to get in touch with a technician. I asked him how they know my computer is infected, he said his company works for another "international company", didn't say how they know my computer is infected. Informed him that I would prefer calling him back, asked for his name and number. He insisted on calling back tomorrow, but because this is a business, we close on the weekends. He said he'll call back on Monday.

SCAM!!!! Called my mom. Convinced her to let them take remote access of her computer then tried to charge her. Fortunatly, she doesn't own a credit or debit card. I called them back & tried to get some info on them (to see if they were a real business. They tried to scam me, then hung up on me when it didn't work. They won't answer the phone now when I call.
