"Gompers" and "Bruce_in_MA" are quite correct: Comcast may in fact, own this number---but someone INSIDE the company ( likely a team of tele-scammers ) are briefly hi-jacking the number, so to try and make some "fly cash", by snagging credit card info from unsuspecting victims; so easy to do and that itself explains spiking surgances in the occurance of these mysterious calls we get.

Comcast, I believe, has been infected with corrupt employees--eager to make some extra money to "get by" these tough economic times.

EVERY major cellular and tele-communications company ( just name any particular one ) has employee(s) engaged in this type activity; and it's quite the challenge for IT investigators to control this growing problem ( an even worse problem IF IT people themselves are corrupt )....but take heart: The company "computer nerd" guys are getting some serious FEDERAL help.

AT&T will never admit such--but last year, they fired "a number" of employees who got caught using spoofed lines--some even left work in handcuffs.......quitely. And given, many tele-scammers are operating OUTSIDE the U.S ( Mexico, Canada, Jamaica and/or Cuba....a-hemmmm ) .---oh, I can well imagine FBI, NSA and Homeland Security MIGHT have a "peaked interest" in the phone spoofing matter. Because THOSE particular tele-scammers HAD to been given some "inside" help, getting access to U.S. spoofed numbers.

It's logical to assume the phone spoofing business indeed is a high-priced one. Whispers are that Congress is under pressure to hammer out FEDERAL laws that carry steel teeth, for those in the U.S. caught using spoofed phone lines for illegal gains.

This is a sad after-effect of a worsening run-away economy, where others find ways to rip off innocent people; doing what they feel they have to to "survive".  

I had a totally different experience with this number (read almost everybody comment)
First of, it was a recorded message and I listen to the first 10 seconds.
He starts of: This is not a sales call, but if I have a septic tank or a cesspool then....
It seems very easy spoof the telephone number, maybe that is the problem, that way it is impossible to track the number and easy to bypass my blocking list.

I have never had any service from Comcast! This number has already called twice today!! Idiots!!

I got a call from 949-555-1111. I am local to the 949 area code. I was expecting a call from the police about an attempted burglary I reported. THIS WAS THE POLICE and from the officer that I had called.

The problem is that when I hung up, I got a message from Samsung (maker of my phone) saying there are privacy issues with the application downloaded and Samsung wanted me to confirm my acknowledgement. I did not download an application. All I did was hang up. SO THE GOVERNMENT DOWNLOADED SPY SOFTWARE ON MY PHONE. It is probably too late to save this phone but at least I know and can remove the battery when I want privacy. I called the number back and they said the call was encrypted.

so I call my cell comcast forcable hookup and they said that they will come out Thursday and then this number call me back about 15 minutes later to let me know they can't do my service I don't know why but some guy call me from this number

The number definitely belongs to Comcast.  I have been dealing with them today setting up service for a relative and every time they called back the caller ID read 804-555-1111.  

However, a scammer could be spoofing the Comcast number, so don't assume it is actually Comcast calling you.

I just set up service with comcast.  Since then (within 60 seconds of hanging up with them), I've received 3 phone calls from this number.  I haven't answered, but following from other posts, I bet it is something set up by comcast.

Received 7 phone calls in a matter of 10 minutes. I answered once, with reluctance to know who or what. Nothing was on the other line, "dead air" as explained previous. I then called back from my works land line and the answer introduced itself as XO Communications. I had an automated prompt ask for my city and state, I gave it, then all of a sudden a live individual female voice asked me if I could spell the city. I then hung up. I also don't understand how my cell number was located in their system, but who knows these days. I looked up their website and the following link http://www.xo.com/ is what I found.

Moral of the story, be careful of how you give your information.

Got a call let it go to VM on my GoogleVoice so I could listen to who it was but they just hung up. Couldn't have been that important then

caller from comcast said there was holiday deals for service upgrades

I got this a day after installing Verizon Wireless/asurain/mcfee virus scanner on my android.
Did anyone else have this on their phone. Its the one on the verizon app store.

This looks like a suspicious number since there is no reason I can't think of for anyone from VA to be contacting me. Based on comments from others, it was good that I did not answer.

I got a call. I did not answer it since the 555-1111 looked suspicious. Glad I didn't.

I just got a call from this number, and my experience was extremely similar to Paul's (above).

I answered the phone, and got silence - but after a few seconds, a man identified himself as calling from Comcast. He knew my last name, and asked for me by Mr. LastName.

He mentioned my bill and the price he said I was paying. I had canceled my Comcast only a few days earlier, but the price he quoted was correct, though I had one of 3 possible prices anyway.

Anyway, I told him I had recently canceled, then he spoke extremely quickly, telling me to call Comcast customer service for further questions, followed by a hangup, with no pause for me to reply.

At first I thought this call was from an ex who had recently relocated to Virginia.  He has been calling me at weird times and says basically nothing.  Am wondering HOW these people got my personal cell number.  I did not pick up and there is not message.  Is this type of harassment legal?

I have received 8 calls from this number in one afternoon at my work phone....they left one voice mail that was three minutes long and only had hold music

that is a spoofed number, no exchange can exist with the number 555

Saw this number on the missed call on my mobile.  tried to call from landline, deadline

Same ...804 555 1111.   Recognized it wasn't a good number and did not answer.

I answered and it was silent for around 4 seconds and then a man came on the line and was looking for Mr. and Mrs. (insert my last name here).  I asked who was calling and he claimed to be from Comcast and tried to say stuff about new promos but I cut him off and said I wasn't interested.  He said thank you for your time and if you have further questions just call Comcast.
