I also got a call from a Indian man on Monday. He said I owed for a payday loan. I stupid enough to give him my debit card info. He took out 200 dollars from my account. Then the following Monday a differant indian guy called me. The same stuff I owed a differant loan this guy wouldn't fax me any thing he just wanted my debit card info. I didn't give it. On thurs I went to my bank and cancelled my card and filled  theft charges with Visa. They took the info that first caller used to deduct the money. Then my bank contacted the FBI. The people try and scare you dont fall for like I did.I'm just waiting for them to try and deduct the second payment on jan 8 so visa can track them. I am sure they will call me back as soon as they don't get there money. I am waiting.

same thing happened to me. i am not fool enough to believe that i owed money when i knew i didnt'.they claim to be calling from ACS and that some loan has been taken out and spit back my last four digits of my ssn on the message. they speak in a very heavy accent and the number that shows up on the caller id when they call is 052-497-347.  they ask me to call them back at 1-813-319-2662. this is a huge scam. do not fall for it. they are trying to get peoples money out of there accounts. i would suggest putting a fraud alert on all your credit reports and letting your bank know what is going on just in case. that is what i did. try to ignore the calls. if you play into it they will only get worse.

David Hall w/ an Indian accent???? Please.  It's about as bad as the Kevin Smith w/ the same accent and story that was calling me a month ago, threatening me with arrest, job loss, and everything else you can think of.  He almost had me convinced to fax him a letter granting permission to take money from my debit card until I asked him to fax me a copy of what he had that prompted the call in the first place.  He then became irate and stated that he needed my attorney's info, to which I replied show me something that proves I need an attorney and I'll get one and provide you with that information.  He then called me a fraudulent person and hung up on me.  This David Hall from +052497347, left a message, and of course I won't respond.  The next time he calls, I think I'll just tell him he has the wrong number.

5 times this person who I assume is Indian and clearly can hardly speak english called and kept threatening that I was going to go to jail and that I needed an attorney to fix this matter without even explaining what the matter was. He was very threatening and I have since learned they cannot threaten you like that. Please take note if you get a call from this person do not release any funds to them without getting a lot more info than they are willing to give. Luckily I called another debt collector who helped me with this and made a conference call to this person to let them know they cannot harrass you in this matter.

They started out by calling me from strange numbers saying that the car loan I applied for was approved I then asked to not be called again I have not applied for any car loan. Then one day out of the blue I received a voice mail from a Kevin Anderson from ACS saying that some serious allegations are being charged against my name and social security number and if I do not call back I will be taken to the "court house" ( who says court house in this day and age) So I called back and it turned into an argument with Kevin Anderson and myself I asked for his supervisor and then I was hung up on. The next call came from Kevin Martin saying that he was  with the state department of investigations and that I had  $200 dollars sent to my bank account and I was being charged with check fraud. So I said let me call my bank and I will call you back. So I called my bank and made them aware of the situation and was told to not give Kevin Martin any personal information so I called Kevin Martin back and I said before we go any further I need you to know that this conversation is being recorded so he was really silent then I said I contacted my bank and they said there was no $200 deposit made to my account Kevin Martin said okay I then said do you need anymore of my time he said no and hung up. Then today I changed my vociemail message to sound as if they had contacted a business someone called from the same number (052-497-347) and left a very polite message asking me to please return the call with no details but the name this time was Neal Johnson. I will not be calling them back. Please do not panic as I did if and when you call these scammers back . If you listen closely you can tell you are speaking to the same person each time just different names.
I hope this will help someone if they recieve calls from these scammers.

Sorry i didnt realize that the caps lock was on, i wanted to add one more thing, that after i said i was going to call the police and hung up, they called back one more time and said they were just trying to do their "job" AFTER THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE GOING TO CALL 500 TIMES A DAY. Rediculous. They just had plain ol american names like "John Smith" "Larry White" and they dont know hardly a lick of english. I am so tired of these awful phone calls, does anyone know what we can do to get the person in charge of this in jail??? they are just so ruthless and rude, they obviously dont know the laws of washington regarding creditors;

"When a Collection Agency Contacts You"

The first time a collection agency contacts you, it must give its name and address, and the name of the original creditor (the business or person you owe money to). It must also tell you in writing the amount of the debt and any fees which have been added, such as interest or collection fees. You must also be informed of your right to dispute the information.

A collection agency cannot call or write to you more than three times a week. Only one of those calls can be at work. You cannot be called between 9 pm and 8 am;
A collection agency cannot harass, intimidate, threaten, or embarrass you;
A collection agency cannot threaten violence, criminal prosecution, or use offensive language; and
If you send a written statement requesting a collection agency to stop, it cannot continue to call or write to you to demand payment.
[*Found from*]  http://atg.wa.gov/ConsumerIssues/Credit/CollectionAgencies.aspx
Make sure you all know your rights. This is an awful scam!!!

I received a call at work (disturbing my conference with a student, btw) on my cell phone.  Wow, I wish I hadn't picked it up.  From 0-524-973-47--a guy with an accent asking for someone named Gary that I don't know.  I told him he had the wrong number.  He got very belligerent, and threatened to send someone to my house, asked me my name (which I did not tell him).  I told him I was going to call the police.  I didn't--well actually, I did and they were unhelpful, so I figured maybe it is not yet a matter for police.  He actually didn't seem to have any specific information other than the cell phone number.  What a jerk.

I have had similiar calls all from private numbers. A woman is on the line claiming to be Natalie Green and sometimes it's a man with an equally American sounding name, they both have a heavy Indian accent. I told them I would not speak to anyone who did not call from an unrestricted number. They have left numerous messages where they give out my FULL SS# and tell me that I need to called them back before something "wrong" happens to me. They will call many times in a row, one time I counted 11 phone calls in less the 10 minutes. They call before 8am and I have asked them repeatedly not to and told them it was against the law. They finally called me today from an unblocked number and "Natalie" asked if she was speaking with "my name" and I told her she was and she said to hold so she could get her supervisor on the line. I told Iwould not hold and if she needed to tell me something to just do it, she said to hold on because it was urgent, she placed me on hold and I hung up. She called back 7 times. After reading this I will answer one more time and request proof of any debt in wriging nad if they refuse I will try to ignore the calls and hope they go away. Argh!! So frustrating!!!

I received a call from "Mr. Watson" and "Ms. Dawson" of Affidavit Consolidation Services over a week ago.  He was trying to collect on an outstanding payday loan from 2008.  He told me there were three "charges" pending against me and I owed $545.00.  He told me it was from Cash Advanced USA. I told him I would call him back after I got more information, he wanted to know what information I needed.  He told me to call 813-319-2662.  I tried calling that number back this week, and the number is no longer accepting calls, hmmmmm...I then contacted CashadvanceUSA directly and they advised me that I DO NOT have an outstanding balance with them and that this was a scam.  So I went to the internet, and found this!  I work in law enforement and this could have jeopordized my job!  Thank you all, I can now sleep at night. I hope someone can do something.  Some people don't have the resources or the education to figure this out themselves, and those are the ones that will fall victim to this practice.  Too lazy to go out and get real jobs I suppose!

Since it sounded fishy, I Googled the numbers and found all this mess.  I don't know if he has my personal info, but I will file a complaint none the less.  Scary, scary stuff!

These people are persistant, very rude,beligerant and need to be stopped. DoNOT give any money or personal info to anyone even if they say they have your info. This is definatly a scam.I have recieved calls now that started like a month ago.Seems like if everyone writes letters and continues reporting this eventually they will be caught.This is definaltly harassment. I did contact my lawyer and others and was told this is against the consumer protection law that is supposed to protect us from this kind of abuse and harassment.

Fake Debt Collectors and Collection Tactics

If consumers did not have enough to worry about having to deal with rising credit card interest rates, late fees and over-limit fees, zombie debt, and fervent bill collectors, now we have to worry about collectors calling about fake debt.

While many legitimate collection agencies follow the FDCPA, there are some collectors out there that are only running a scam operation and will be quick to use threats and scare tactics to get you to pay up quick. Their scams turn up in mailboxes, on the internet and through the telephone every day. Some collectors pose as national banks, government agencies (FBI, CIA), or even popular celebrity stars to gain personal information. These phony collectors may threaten to repossess your house, issue a warrant for your arrest, or even garnish your pay check, all of which are against the FDCPA rules. Some of which are even laughable (for example, there is no debtor?s prison in the United States).

Fake debt scammers rely on the fear and lack of knowledge about debt collection laws within the population. They also figure that a certain percentage of their calls will be received by individuals who may be carrying debt on credit cards anyway and may be susceptible to intimidation. When collectors use misleading statements and fail to provide identification, they are breaking the law. Never pay money to a possible thief. Keep cool when you hear from collectors to avoid this collection abuse.

Many times, people who took out payday loans online in the past are most susceptible. If you took a payday loan, be aware scammers may have access to your Social Security number and other personal information, and keep your guard up against such tactics.

Ironically, real "deadbeats" probably wouldn't fall for these scammers, since they have no intention of repaying their creditors anyway. But upright citizens may doubt themselves, thinking they've forgotten to pay a bill. Many times, the sums involved tend to be fairly small, so some people may be tempted to just pay the "bill" and "get it over with."

Ways to Protect Yourself Against Debt Collection Scams

Review your credit report frequently to find inaccuracies.
Be aware of your current creditors and how much you owe.
Ask creditors for identification before you provide any information over the telephone.
Reporting Fake Debt Collectors

If you ever receive a call from anyone identifying himself as a debt collector, the law requires that the debt collector provide you with identification, and that the debt collector refrain from making misleading and threatening statements.

You can report any problems you have to your state Attorney General?s office www.naag.org and the Federal Trade Commission www.ftc.gov. Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General?s office can help you determine your rights under your state?s law.

I have received several phone numbers from these callers saying they are ACS.  The person's name was Addie Jones.  He had an Indian accent.  He didn't seem to be able to hear anything I was saying although I said several times that I did not want him to call my number again.  I said I didn't want to hear anything he had to say and if he needed to correspond with me he could send the informaiton to my mailing address.  THIS IS A SCAM.  I would suggest filing as many complaints as you can to ANYONE that will listen to you.  You can report the telephone number you are calling about.  According to the reverse look up website that phone number is located in Tampa Florida and Hillsborough County.

Please DO NOT GIVE ANYONE your information even over the phone.

I received a call on my work phone. They left a message, the man said his name was Jason Williams and he had a thick Indian accent. He said he was with ACS and that a company called "Cash Advance" was taking legal action against my name and social security number for a loan that I had taken out with them in 2/2009. I received a call from these same people a couple of months ago stating the same thing except the loan was taken out in 7/2008. The guy tried to verify my social, even though he had the wrong one I didn't give him any info. Being safe rather than sorry I have been watching my credit very closely ever since I received the first call.

WALLINGFORD, CT, August 07, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about would-be debt collectors who call "payday" loan holders, threatening arrest if they don't pay immediately.

A payday loan, also known as a paycheck advance, is a short-term cash advance intended to cover expenses until the holder's next payday.

The callers claim they are lawyers with the "Financial Accountability Association" or the "Federal Legislation of Unsecured Loans," and they are armed with stolen personal information from their victims, indicating a major security breach of unknown origin. The names used by the scammers may change with time.

According to Connecticut Better Business Bureau President, Paulette Scarpetti, payday loan holders appear to be particularly at risk.

"Because the scammers have so much information about potential victims, BBB is concerned that this may be the result of a data breach. Thousands of people may have had their personal information compromised."

Reports received by Better Business Bureau and posted online explain the con artists threaten the loan holders of defaulting and claim they are being sued. The imposters threaten the loan holders with imminent arrest and extradition to California to stand trial, unless they immediately wire $1000 or provide bank account or credit card information.

Connecticut Better Business Bureau has advice for consumers who receive suspicious telephone calls about an outstanding debt:

-Don't be bullied into immediate action. Ask the debt collector to provide official documentation that substantiates the debt.
-Do not provide or confirm any bank account, credit card or other personal information over the telephone until you confirm the legitimacy of the call.
-If you believe a debt collector is trying to scam you, file an abuse complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) online at www. ftc.gov, or by telephone at (202) 326-2222. Also file a complaint with your Better Business Bureau at http://www.bbb.org or by telephone at 203-269-2700, ext. 2.
