Got a call from this number yesterday. Individual stated they were an agent with the DOJ. This is a scam people. Be careful if you get a call like this. It's a scam to get you to pay money to "avoid" a fine. No legitimate agency is going to call you like this and threaten to arrest you.

You already know it's not the police - you've been contacted by scammers.  If your husband was involved in some investigation, the police don't call and say you have x amount of time to go to the police and turn yourself in or call a phone number.  The police just show up.  You have nothing to be scared off - the scammers can do absolutely nothing to you.  Please do report the caller to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.  You may also want to give your local police a heads up too - I'm sure you're not the only one getting these calls.  Block the caller's number(s) - you can ask your phone service provider to do this if you're not sure how.

Just got a call, came up as 911' officer spencer said my husbands name came up in an investigation and if he doesn't go to state police office or call agent miller at 823-423-4016 he will be arrested at home or office.  The number isn't even the state police number.  This is scaring the crap out of me.

Debt is civil, not criminal, so no one is going to be arrested, even if they did default on a debt.  Also, law enforcement is not in the business of debt collection, so a police officer or FBI agent is NOT going to be calling you about an alleged debt.  More info on this scam here:

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Received a message from "Officer Watson" stating he was from the California State Police. Said my name and SSN# was under investigation for fraudulent activity and that I needed to report to the nearest police station and turn myself in or call the Department of Justice at 813-423-4016. If I failed to do so then he would have no choice but to arrest me at my home or place of work TODAY! Googled the number and found a thread of exact same thing happening to other people. I was relieved, to say the least, that it was a SCAM, but annoyed that this was even happening to other people!

Have had this happen numerous times. The first time they used my name and now they are using my husbands name. It is a SCAM. If you happen to answer tell them you are reporting them and they will immediately hang up and not call you back again.
Nothing to worry about. They do not have warrants for you, and they will NOT arrest you. It is a way for them to scam you out of money.

Don't do anything. It is a scam. My husband has had it happen twice. We have spoke to our local state police department and the real local FBI for our state. It is NOT REAL. If they were truly from the FBI or State police the # would come up with that area code. The first time it happened, it scared us beyond belief. So I completely understand what you are feeling. With God behind me in this post, IT IS NOT REAL. Do a little investigating. Be safe and good to one another. Blessed Be...

I received the same call again today. Same message. But the voice sounded different. I saved both messages. They said the exact same thing as they did yesterday. I called them back yesterday and when they answered it never said the company and when I asked for officer miller. It was the same person who called and left the message. So its one person pretending to be 2.
