Grrrrr.  Same text twice already as that mentioned here plus a new one again today written exactly this way: "customer issue, new generations federal credit union service frozen. please call at 541 210 5546"

Obviously nitwit losers who can't properly capitalize and are a**hole spammers whose necks I'd like to wring.

I got the text and I have a sprint phone and I'm in Richmond as well. I google'd the bank and found a message on their webpage it reads:
Notice to members: We have been informed that another Phishing Scam is asking members for Account Numbers, PINs and Card Numbers.  New Generations WILL NEVER contact you and ask for this information.  DO NOT respond to any calls, emails, mailings or other requests for personal information.

Somebody's gotten a Sprint mass number list.

I talked to sprint,  If you want to you can block it by sending a text to 9999 and typing "block 9099"  did this because I received 2 messages and I do not want to get more throughout the day.  They're annoying.

OK PAY ATTENTION!!! FORWARD TO ALL YOU KNOW!!! HERE IS HOW TO STOP IT!!!!
I have "connections" with high people in SPRINT. I just spoke with the head of the Security Department.
1. Anyone can go on FCC website and find out what "blocks" of numbers are assigned to which carriers (for example phone numbers 804-123-1000 through 804-123-9000 are assigned to Verizon, 804-456-1000 through 804-456-9000 to Sprint...etc...) so NO, sprint is not selling our numbers and no one broke into their system and stole our numbers.
2. Sprint can log the complaints, but they technically have no legal authority to do anything to the person/company/whatever, because the action is not being done directly to SPRINT.
3. What YOU need to do is tell your local police. This is a criminal matter and needs to be reported as such to the police so they can stop it. I know what you are thinking, they aren't going to care... well yeah, if one or two people say they got a spam text, your probably right, they won't care... BUT if everyone that gets the text calls their local police and reports... epidemic = action!!!!!!
4. Make sure to save the texts in your phone! The police will probably need to see them or have you forward them to them.
5. Let EVERYONE know that they need to contact the local police (me personnally will be contacting the local and state police). Shoot, I might get real froggy and contact the local news as well.

They are using a newer number now (1/7/2010) 814-352-8677. I called it from a work line and it tells you to enter a credit card number. Reverse lookup says belongs to a Stephen Dring in Champion, PA.  He is either the unluckiest guy in the world, or a spammer.

I forwarded the message to sprint's abuse center & also gave them a call. They have been receiving quite a few inquiries about such spam texts or phoen calls. This is some sort of scam. Try not to call them or text them back whatsoever & DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION (bank, social, etc.).
