I just got my first call from them. They would not identify who they were, so I hung up on them.
Destiny 2011-06-06 20:59:28 Unknown
I have been receiving calls from this number for probably eight months now. The calls started on my home phone number. It's always a recording and they ask for someone who I don't even know. About two months ago they started calling my cell phone number and even my mom's cell phone number! We are really fed up with it but we don't know how to notify them that they have the wrong number because it's always a recording!!!
gapeach 2011-06-06 20:59:28 Unknown
These people call my cell phone at least once a week, I never answer since it is long distance and I do not recognize the number. It goes to voicemail, and the message is usually the sound of a ringing phone. However, this morning when they called, a male rep left a message for someone other than me, not anybody I know. I have had the same cell phone # for over 10 years, they are obviously calling the wrong number. After reading the experiences other people have had on this board, it doesn't seem that it would do me any good to contact them back. Oh, it's so annoying!
unimportant 2010-04-04 05:14:50 Unknown
These calls are ridiculous. not only have i not answered even once, but they dont even have a number that shows up when they call. All the caller id says is AACC. then a bunch of zeros. I would take Goodfellows advice and simply give them nothing to work with but i desperatly want to scream at them.

I just removed myself from Classmates.com - I believe that it is a tool for them to track people down. Especially when they reached me at in a new state asking for me in my maiden name from 16-years ago.

I HATE THESE PEOPLE<< HOw can this still be happening!!!!?!?!
Heather 2008-01-03 21:31:41 Unknown
This # shows up on my phone but then after a couple of seconds (or when I try to answer)it hangs itself up. Then when I try to call it back I get the recording that says "this number is not in service". It's so frustrating!!!

This company just started calling me over the past week on my cell phone. They have called at least 50 times this week, 7-10 times per day. If I answer they hang up. If it goes to voicemail they don't leave a message. I googled this number to see who had it and why they kept calling me. I tried to call the number back to see what they want but I just get a recording saying the number is not in service. I am going to call my cell AT&T and ask them how I can block this number.

I posted the following a few months ago, but it bears repeating:
As all of you are painfully becoming aware, Asset Acceptance (the owner of 813-793-7623) is a very, well, let's just say a company that uses highly interesting collection practices. Arm yourself with information about this company. Read the links below and others. Maybe your phone company or your phone service can block calls from this number, but I'm fairly certain AACC uses other numbers, too. Let their calls go to voicemail and ignore their silly warnings about how they know you are listening to your voicemails (as mentioned by someone).
Why bother speaking to AACC's nasty representatives directly? It appears that no one yet has had a good experience speaking with them. You will learn that they buy extremely old (alleged) debts for a few cents on the dollar from the original creditors and get to keep all of whatever money you pay. When you ask for evidence of the debt, AACC most likely will only have a computer printout, not the records it is required to have to prove the debt. If you don't pay through intimidation, AACC most likely will file a suit and hope you won't show up, so that it will win a default judgment against you without having to prove its flimsy case. The default judgment means AACC no longer has to prove its case and now you really owe the money it claims you owe. So, if AACC serves you with a suit, you should go to court and make it show the court the evidence of debt (not just a computer printout) that they likely don't have.
Remember, if you agree to pay (and start paying in part) a debt already extinguished by statute of limitation laws, you have just negated the statute of limitations protection and reset the statute date to the payment date.
For those who wonder how AACC finds you, this is simple - they use information broker services which have constantly-updated post office forwarding address information and other info from a wide variety of sources where you may have innocently listed your new phone numbers and addresses. The information broker information (ChoicePoint is a major broker - look it up via Google) have records of your current and past addresses going back years, along with your relatives names and addresses, various names you have used, etc.
These are just a few sites related to AACC specifically and the debt collection game:

My husband and I recieved a bill a few months ago for an unknown debt of $80 or so, when I am very organized with finances, I know we do not owe anything to anyone! Then starting a week ago they call my husbands cell phone every day and never leave a voicemail!!! I did call them afer I recieved the bill asking what this supposed debt was for and they said I had to submit a request in writing. Its all a crock of s***. Im not messing with it anymore.

I am always getting calls from this number. I had a caller ID isntalled that lets me know the number that is calling and then l put that number into the caller ID memory bank so when they call again my caller ID will say the number and then it will say Spam call do not answer. This way one one wastes their time answering the call.

Same as all the others...have been receiving calls from AACC for months now for an individual who does not live here. I just ignore them. It's their dime.

I have received a few calls from this number and one from the 940 area code (also listed as AACC elsewhere) in the last two weeks. They don't leave a message. If there is an actual legit claim, it would be on old bill in my name that the ex-wife was supposed to take care of in the divorce. It didn't happen. Rather than go through the time and expense of hauling her before the court, I rather just wait out the short time before the debt disappears.

They've been calling my cell every week or so for several months. I let it go to voice mail, and they leave an electronic message that says by listening to it I verify that I'm "John Doe."
I've had the same number for a few years, but I've never heard of their "John Doe." There's no way I'm answering or calling them back now - not after what I've read here. This company is bad news.

Again 08/19/07 a contact was made on our phone. No message left. Our son no longer lives at this address and I have already requested this company "Asset Acceptance" to remove my phone number.

My parents get this call AT LEAST FIVE TIMES A DAY and are SICK of it!
They do NOT have anything for a collections company to be calling about.
Has ANYONE had any success in getting them to STOP the calls?

On 08/02/07 at approx: 09:50 hours I received a call from 1-813-793-7623 and an individual asked for our son, who does not live here and has not lived here for some time. I asked the individual who they were and she gave a name after thinking for a few seconds (kinda sounded like she was thinking up fake name), then I asked what company she represented and again after a few seconds she stated Asset Acceptance. I informed her that my son does not live here and identified myself to her and told her to remove my phone number from her records. She stated that she would remove my phone and not call again. We will see.

I have received two calls that ended up on my answering machine. In both instances the voice is stating that by listening to their message, I am acknowledging that I am so an so. So and so being the person that they are trying to contact. It is very irritating to receive these calls. I have yet to be available when the call comes in.

I recieved a missed call from this number - the voicemail was blank - I called back and the rep asked for someone else. when I asked the guy what company he represents he said he didn't see how that was important considering I'm not the person he was looking for then he hung up. I only know thw name of the company because the prompt states it when you call back. It bothered me thats why I searched them online and found this site. i wish i'd looked them up prior to returning the call.

One more thing. Please DO NOT use your name in forums like this, as some of you already have done. AACC and similar companies can easily read these messages and will now be able to document what you have said, if it is useful to them in their actions against you. You cannot later convincingly claim that someone else entered your name in the forum, as few others would know that AACC had contacted you in the first place. Remember, none of us need to know who you are.
