Yes, received call, showing no caller ID info but they did leave a message as "News Channel 8, Gayle Sierens, wanting to do a poll? Odd, that when you check under WFLA, News Channel 8 Tampa there is an anchor named Gayle Sierens showing an affiliation with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Yes, confusing search results in relationship to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America "BBBS" and Better Business Bureau "BBB." Based on affiliations, associations, call centers, nonprofit, marketing, and telemarketing. Partnership with http://www.bbbsmidflorida.org/index.php/about_us/our-partners/  websites http://www.bbbssun.org/site/c.6oLDKOPqE7LQH/b.6701127/k.EF5F/Home_Page.htm  and http://www.bbbsmidflorida.org/ under PA, Drum,PA.This organization and others may be being used under deceptive and unfair business practices. Predation on the elderly, vulnerable, and uninformed disguised as helping children and families is ruthless. What marketers / telemarketers, call centers are involved here?

Debt Collector
Yes, received call and they hung up when answered. Odd, don't you think? Yes, they are an unrated alumni assoc by charity navigator. Yes, they have an address in Tampa and under that listing shows "closed on Sunday." It's Sunday, and the day I received a call. It appears they have a block of numbers, perfect numbers for debt collectors, and other's to spoof. I see no "opt out" program on their website. That hang up was robo caller familiar. I wonder what else and who else they market / telemarket for? Also, appears they call others that are not alumni or family of alumni. Glowing reports about who this is and how we should be gentle with the students who are doing the calling. This looks no different than all the other scammin and scummin that goes on Florida.

This number is for USF's telefund - I worked there briefly. The people calling are all current USF students working at the USF alumni center on the Tampa campus. They are raising money for scholarships and the different colleges and programs. The reason they call late is because Monday through Friday their call center hours are from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. The center is an outgoing call center only, which is why no one picks up when you call the number back and callers are instructed not to leave messages on answering machines. If you'd like to donate but don't like the late calls you can asked to be switched to day calling only (they do this on Sundays). If you don't want to be called at all then ask to be placed on the do not call list. NOTE: This HAS to come from the person they are asking for otherwise you will not be placed on the do not call list.

If you want to make it stop just answer and POLITELY ask to be taken off of the list. It's just students calling to update your info and then ask you for donations. If you're polite they'll be done in about 5 minutes and won't call you for about six months. Remember they're just students doing their jobs so there is no need to be rude.

I find it odd that USF would call EVERY night at 9:00 PM.  It makes me even more skeptical that they just hang up when we answer the phone.  When I called the number back they have either A. picked up and hung up as soon as I said anything or B. today when I called I heard a male voice mutter one word as he hung up.  Why would USF call a current student for money, and why would they call so late at night.  You would expect a university to run their school similar to a place of business which would never call the same number at 9:00PM every night and not give you the opportunity to remove yourself off of their call list.

How do you get this to stop? They are essentially harassing me by calling over and over again at night. I don't understand why USF would want to call up their students, never leave a message and never pick up when called back. It sounds like something very illegitimate. Sounds like a bunch of insomniacs that have a prank calling fetish to me...

This is USF calling. The purpose of the calls is to reconnect with alumni and parents of students attending the University.  I worked there when i was in college.  Money raised helps finance many scholarships, fellowships, chairs, professorships, and many other important things the university. Whether or not you make a donation, remember that the callers are current students just trying to do something for USF.  Be patient with them.  Personally, I used to not mind giving them a donation, and I had already shelled out a ton of money as an out of state student!

My cell phone rang around dinner time with this number 813-974-8822. I didn't answer. The caller never left a message. I know this exchange is in the USF area of Tampa.
